EliteXC on CBS tonight

MMA will be featured on network television for the first time ever tonight, with the EliteXC event. It's truly got a mediocre card:

Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson versus James Thompson

Robbie Lawler versus Scott Smith.

Gina Carano versus Kaitlin Young

Phil Baroni versus Joey Villasenor

Brett Rogers versus Jon Murphy

The prelim fights were supposed to be streamed on proelite.com, but instead the actual event itself is being streamed. but hey, its the first foray of MMA into mainstream media, so I am all for it.

Well, you can tell that they are trying to make it a more mainstream kind of event with the dancers and all, but I'm very glad they gave frank Shamrock the respect he deserves as a legend in the sport.

well, the Lawler Smith fight was immense, too bad it got called.

Kimbo should have been tko'ed end of the second round, he wasnt defending for crap for almost 2 minutes.

The chics fight shouldnt have been called either. That doctor should be forever banned from MMA event work.

All in all, it was rather strange because it was done in a mainstream TV sort of way. The fights left plenty to be desired. Meh, 6/10.

ok so here's the deal... Elite XC is so very obviously rigged. Don't mistake this for complaining or whining about the card, because any real MMA fan that watched this will undoubtedly say the same thing. The Lawler vs Smith fight?? Come on, are you serious, you call a stoppage for a thumb in the eye, after you CLEARLY did not give him his 5 min rest time??

Then the Kimbo fight..there is really no need to even go into it, it was so obvious. Thompson, who fought like ass, starts the fight with a HUGE cauliflower ear (which either should have been drained or he should have been x'd off the card) he beats Kimbo's head against the canvas repeatedly at the end of the second and there was no stoppage, kimbo could have seriously been injured and was visibly hurt. Then they come out in the 3rd and they call a stop because Thompson's ear is bleeding?? are you serious, did you not see that coming?? or did the blood just frighten that moron of a ref? Since when are fights stopped because someone starts bleeding?

Think about it for a second... Kimbo is EliteXC (and CBS) cashcow...they hold him on a pedestal, everyone at that event tonight was screaming for Kimbo, he has a huge fan base (which is sad for MMA) If he were to lose in his 3rd MMA fight, against a loser of Thompson's caliber it would be a huge downfall for elite xc and Kimbo would lose any small bit of credibility that he ever had. It was so obviously rigged.

And if you don't believe my opinion have a look at the 700+ others who feel the exact same way here.

We did watch the same fight last night right? Young had the better looking first round, at a time when neither found their range or did much that was effective. Carano landed a nice flurry at the end of round 2, but that was the only real highlight of the entire fight. I think it was a BS call for the Doc to have stopped the fight. But then, they have to preserve her perfect record, as she is "the face of female fighting". Oh, and we can't forget just how much she is advancing the sport for women. She hasn't made weight in 5 fights, even in a weight class designed just for her; and then to top it all of, she can't stop giggling in her post fight interview.

Hell, the only decent fight of the entire night was the Lawler v Smith bout. Everything else was Mickey Mouse bull****

I started watching it right before the Carano fight started. I thought it was decent.

The fight stoppage for the thumb to the eye was bull**** though.

His ear isn't almost falling off. It's a cauliflower ear; that is a large pocket of fluid in his ear, making it flop around like that. thats where all that blood came from is when it got hit a few times square on.

Dude are you insane? Seriously. I went back and watched the Carano fight again just incase i overlooked something that YOU think you seen and it was very clear AGAIN to me that Carano won both rounds, and it was a more deserving stoppage then the Kimbo fight. Her eye was almost swollen shut, which would mean she wasn't able to see clearly, which means it was a valid stop as apposed to Thompson's ear bleeding. I agree about the weight thing, that is in issue that needs fixing but she clearly won both rounds, Young only had a few good kicks, but nothing to affect the fight in any way.

I urge anyone that believes this dude to watch the fight again.. cause i'm pretty sure he's talking about a different fight.

I like Fedor "The Last Emperor" Emelianenko, and I think everyone single person in EliteXC is a joke, Gina Carano is no exception. Which is why I watch Strikeforce, UFC, and Pride Fighting championships, and fight as an amateur fighter in a local KOTC network. You want to push the subject?
