furby
Well, it's killing me to do so but I'm running a cinema display on a windows 98 machine. I upgreaded the graphics card to an ATI Radeon 9800 I had lying about and well it works, sort of. Problem is I am unable to select the proper resoulution of the monitor 1680x1050. I can get higeher and lower res but not that one? I got the latest drivers/catalyst from the amd site but, why can't I select the res. Do I need cinema display dirvers? +jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted June 13, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted June 13, 2008 The combination of an old graphics card and an old Operating System means one or the other can't support that particular resolution. furby
Well, the graphics card support much higher resploution so I guess it's win 98. Must be a way to trick it, I'm not giving up that quickly Hmm, maybe I'm wrong. I tried PowerStrip and it said the max resoloution of the card was 1600x1200 Possibly the mystery solved, I'll have to try a different card to be sure edit2/No, I'm driving myself crazy, checked the box and it's higher than that. Need to try it on an XP machine Edited June 13, 2008 by furby Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/643111-display-resoloution/#findComment-589480772 Share on other sites
roadgeek9
You could try the instructions for Windows 95 here.... http://toastytech.com/guis/miscb.html. It might work. EDIT - Copy all of the code in the gray box into a ".reg" file, and change any reference from 1440, 900 to 1680, 1050 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/643111-display-resoloution/#findComment-589483161 Share on other sites

Make sure you ALSO have the INF(driver file for that monitor) and instal it .. could be as easy as that ... with a correct model and make of the monitor that would help.. They have a tendancy to work "hand in hand " with each other.. Either that or the Monitor cant for some reason accept the resolution that is given to it in the proper way . Hope that helps LoneWolf Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/643111-display-resoloution/#findComment-589483443 Share on other sites

It came up with Apple Cinema Display when I plugged in in so I guess it go the .inf file from the monitor or the OS. Where would I find it otherwise? Is it something i need to write myself? furby
You could try the instructions for Windows 95 here.... http://toastytech.com/guis/miscb.html. It might work. That didn't work but I think I might have done something wrong. There isn't a registry section for .../modes/0001/Timings. I think this might wok if I persists though, so thanks Try one of these sites...Link and Link See if either one of those solutions helps you out . Good Luck ~Lonewolf They're both the same link. But it didn't work either though says something along the lines of "There was no information for the hardware found in that location" when I tried to update the driver. It just default to the plug and play monitor driver. furby
Was ill all last week but finally managed to get to this today. It was the first thing I tried and couldn't be simpler. Downloaded Powerstrip (forgot I had bought a license a few years ago). Went to custom resolution, chose the "from EDID". It got the resolution from the monitor and boom, it worked instantly. The images look really crisp on the monitor now. Thanks for the help all :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/643111-display-resoloution/#findComment-589528924 Share on other sites
