I have recently watched the movie Untraceable 2008. It's an excellent film. I rate it about 8 out of 10.

I saw on the movie this thing about a backdoor trojan. What happened is the authorities were able to see their backdoor and monitor it with the use of a 'backdoor trojan'. Is this even possible? And if it is possible, can it be done with Vista Ultimate?

If it is legal, I want to have a dual monitor setup. One with the standard Vista interface, and one with the backdoor interface. So I can see everything that goes in 'behind the scenes'. If possible I want the 'trojan' to not be harmful in any way, shape or form. Not to infect anyone on my network or the internet. Also I want it to take up absolute minimal computer/network resources.

P.S. I have to admit I'm a bit of a noob with this sort of thing. So be nice!

So... you want to exploit a flaw with a common hacker tool kit, create a user account and enable remote desktop services, or use a third party remote desktop application? I haven't seen the movie, but with all hollywood hacker fluff I'm sure it's just more of the same... though, Johnny Mnemonic was awesome.

Yeah... every version of Windows ships with quite a few of them :p

Backdoors don't really exist in that sense, you have to find an exploit, a vulnerability in the operating system and take advantage of it to gain access to the system, once you have access you can install a backdoor of your choosing, a remote desktop would be an easier way to access the compromised system everytime than exploiting a system flaw repeatedly... but thank God for Windows Vista Ultimate: Hacker's Haven Edition :p

Can I access the Administrator 'SafeMode' and have it viewed on a separate visual display to my normal vista interface? Is that even possible? Could this be achieved by setting up VNC or something? I have no idea how to do it.

Is there a 'main backdoor' that everybody seems to visit, that I can view on a separate screen? Because I actually want to see action happen a lot. I'm not interested in stopping what they do or anything. I just want to see what goes on.

1) it's illegal to access someones computer and / or network without them knowing or permission

2) there is no "main backdoor" to any operating system

3) vista never claims to be the most secure system ever

4) you have to reboot the computer to get into "safe mode" and then you could log on as admin

5) you could log on to the computer as an admin but you would see the same screen as usual

6) what they are monitoring in the movie (and the only thing you can monitor "behind the scene") is the internet traffic, which requires no trojan at all

I plan on accessing hidden spots in my own computer. Is that illegal? If it is, I won't bother. I don't want the AFP knocking on my door 10 minutes after I install something. Oh and Vista does claim to be the most secure windows os ever built. I forgot to mention the windows part. I have a couple of good programs to monitor internet traffic. It has a live netstat and it does whois and also plots peoples location on a map of the world. But that's boring. I want to do what the people did in that movie.

Its been said before. There is no backdoor. You have to find an exploit and use it.

No OS is ever 100% secure. A "backdoor" or exploit, can be caused by a number of variables, in most cases other software. Say Adobe (which is used by a number of people) suddenly realised they had created a vunerability in the way the program performs a certain task, this would mean that a new vunerability has been created. It is then up to either MS or Adobe to create a patch or update to fix that issue.

The same goes for any Linux system. There are vunerabilities. You just dont hear of them so much, because Windows is the more widely used OS.

You need to be carefull and read carefully. They clame it is "the most secure windows os ever built". It is the most secure, but as i said above, they never said it is 100% secure and unhackable. Any OS is hackable if someone really wants to gain access.

When you say it monitors internet traffic and you go on to say it does a whois, what internet traffic does it monitor? Does it tell you what your machine is saying to others on your local network or internet? Or does it just allow you to whois to a general location of an IP address?

Honestly mate. You dont seem to be talking about anything in particular that is true or makes any sense. Yuo admit you are a n00b, so i would just stick to what you know and work your way up slowely. Neither you nor I are ready to get involved with this kind of stuff, from what i can see.

at a guess, I'd say he wants a monitor to work on normally, then a 'leet' monitor that looks cool, showing all kinds of effects and data in a Hollywood-esque format.

Probably can find the flash program that opens those effect type folders and application.

You know when the secret agent gets into the room with "teh comput3r", enters a stupid password (i.e. the names of the people on photo beside the monitor). Then goes on to click a desktop icon, with a folder icon on it. This opens up a flash program with cool high-tech effects...or the computer displays some satellite images and zooms in and etc, its all flash I think. Easy to make...and with a actor just pounding on random keys to make the actionscript start.

you can install a trojan or vpn client on your computer if you want, just not other people's :p

as for vista, yea it is windows most secure build. most of the exploits come from 3rd party programs you install (ex. adobe, firefox, java, etc like rich mentioned) not from the OS itself

if you want lots of lines of code to look at on a 2nd monitor install Wireshark and go browse the internet. it's a pretty advanced tool though so you'll have to do some research on how to set it up and use it properly

I'm sorry if I have offended anyone. I don't know how I got in thin ice? I use two programs to monitor my local internet traffic. The first is called 'callerip' and the second is called 'visualiptrace'. I also sometimes use command prompt for netstat and trace route. But seeing these two programs have both those features in advanced format, I use cmd less and less every day. Maybe I'm too much of a noob at the moment to have a 1337 multi-monitor setup. I didn't mean to offend anyone and I'm sorry.

I do realize these 'Hollywood hacking effects' are looped flash movies. I also have read about windows security patches.

I DO NOT plan on infecting anyone's computer at all!

I'm quite surprised that there isn't 'safe' programs on google that meets the description I'm looking for.

I'm not expecting people to tell me about windows vulnerabilities and exploits etc. Because I know Microsoft wouldn't be very happy about that.

I'm just looking for a link or a name of a program that can do what I'm looking for.

But you havent really told us what you are wanting to do exactly. All you have done so far is moan that Vista is insecure and say you want something that does what you see in hollywood films... which doesnt actually exist in real life.

isnt it obvious? He wants a second screen to look like they do in the movies. Think swordfish. From the trailer that movie seems kind of ridiculous and out of whack as it is.

It wont get you in to trouble becuase you are not looking to gain unlawfull entry to another persons system.

From what i can tell you are simply looking for a packet sniffer. However, you will find it hard to get something that looks like it does in the movies... they are specially made and look nothing like that in real life.

Think the matrix, with the black command window and commands being executed from there and you could be talking.

It is possible for someone to load a "backdoor" via unsecure access to the computer. In this example they were using remote desktop connections (eg: vnc/rdc) and security venerabilities in the web servers to remove the offending content. so yeah its possible but they aren't built into the operating system.

What you are looking for doesnt exist. Period, there is no magical graphic UI that tells you your system is being hacked and lets you "monitor" the hackers.
