This is one reason why Apple PC's (yes PC's thats all they are.. dont be brainwashed by commercials on tv) will never become as mainstream as IBM based PC's... there is really little choice... if your a pro you have to have brushed metal! if your an amature here have cheap black or white plastic! thast all you get!
You said Apple limits its product selection in order to make choices easy for their customer, including limiting the available colors, which is the basis for this discussion. So, paraphrasing here, Apple makes choices easy on customers, by not giving them any? Or is it that they believe their customers are incapable of making choices on their own, even in regards to color selection of peripherals? Call me crazy, but if I don't think someone has the capability to select colors on their own, either I don't think too highly of them, or I believe said individuals should be eating applesauce through a straw.

So which is it?

Some people actually just don't want much choice and it's nothing to do with intelligence. Why make something harder than you need to? That would be questionable if you don't have some special interest in a particular colour/whatever. Macs appeal to a particular market of people, who are not necessarily the same people who buy Dells or anything else.

I'm not exactly ignorant about computers, but I loved the fact that Apple had one machine that would suit my needs, and I could take it or leave it. I didn't have to compare 5 different models.

Personally I don't think Macs will or should become the majority anymore than than any other individual PC maker like Dell or HP should.

Yet my HP workstation is made out of metal... that is my point! MacBook pro is a "workstation" quality system... so is the MacPro... I wasn't talking about just notebook computers here...

You have way more choices with it comes to designs on the Non-Mac based side... I don't know how you couldn't see that point? I can choose color, shape, size, weight... Apple it's here's 3 models of each type basically and here's the 3 options we give you to choose from hardware that is "compatable" with it... heck if i wanted something i could littearly throw around I could go to a panasonic toughbook... no mac replacement for that yet ;)

You're comparing everyone company to Apple, rather than one company vs one company. Also there are 7 laptops all together to choose from, Lots of company's only have around this many laptops on the market at one time (that majorly sell).

I think Apple have enough to choose from to be honest.

I back up the statement above because some of my mates have bought Macs because I use one and have recommended them one, and they had no troubles trying to find the right one for them. Then when someone asks about a Windows OS laptop.... Well there are soooooo many out there and so many bad ones and you have to choose which is good and which aren't... I usual recommend dell but even then for a non-computer savvy person they look at and ask, is it for home, or home business, or business. Then theres like 5 choices in each and I get like 20 calls about what one is right for them.

In the end they probably both get exactly what they want, just with Windows laptops there are just 10x as many calls and options.

Does anyone think its possible to see an option for the MacBook to have a choice for a graphics card in the near future, like the MacBook Pro (Nvidia 8600M GT for example, but any mobile graphics card would suffice)? I would gladly take a BlackBook with a graphics card over a MacBook Pro :)

I dunno if they need to, I mean the lower end machines like the macbooks don't particularly need it, I have a pro and honestly I don't need the graphics card in this machine, thats why I wanna get a macbook so its smaller and more portable. There really isn't any need for a graphics card for these machines IMO. They do almost everything without them.

Yea but I play WoW and would like to be able to play that with all settings turned up and as high fps as possible, and with Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 coming out those games are going to run best on a graphics card rather than integrated, it would be nice if they had the option at least :(.

Well, you have the "option" of buying a Macbook Pro.

Personally, I don't view the Macbook case as cheap plastic. It's actually polycarbonate (I'm being picky, admittedly) and it feels a lot nicer than a ton of my other gadgets.

Oh and for the record, since when did IBM give you all the world's choices for colour and case material? Or frankly, any choice at all?
