Yahtzee Reviews MGS4

Recommended Posts

LOL

Good ole Yahtze.

Plus Yahtze, you do run out of ammo on the tranq gun. Try playing on hard instead of easy. Drebin doesn't sell tranq bullets.

At least he acknowledged playing through the first games before. Nothing grates on my nerves more than the casual MGS4 reviews where people jump the game and beat it senseless for not being accessible to someone who knows nothing on MGS.

Spot on review, and exactly why it's not the best game evarrr!!1! (Y)

Dude just let people think it is if they want to. What does it bother you?

You called KoL out as well in another topic for saying he thought it was.

I'm sure you have a "best game ever" as well :p

For the record, FF7 is still mine, but I'd say MGS4 is in my top5.

I laughed, like every week. :p Although his opinion has kind of put me off buying a PS3 while I'm in Japan. Among other things I haven't played the previous games and I've kind of been worried about not understanding all the little details. I've considered just reading a synopsis online but that'd take a fair while too. Overall though I think what he said hits the nail on the head for someone playing their first MGS game with no previous experience.

I actually don't label any game the best. Seems pretty pointless to me. I have lots of favourites, but that doesn't make them the best :p

Some people should learn the difference

btw, Halo pwns *

:shifty:

Funny as always, i can understand his rants, it just means he isn't really into the kind of game MGS is.

That doesn't mean no one will like it, there are tons of people who like a good convoluted story tied to a challenging game with immense attention to detail...

Although maybe it's time for a new profile pic, though...

The 'review' is exactly what I would expect from somebody that doesn't like the MGS series. No big deal really.

Exactly. I completely disagree with that entire thing. And normally when he dislikes a game there are a few points I agree with him on, but in this case I think he's completely wrong.

But hey, to each his own.

I completely agree with him. I went in with an open mind on the game. Unfortunately after the initial 22mins I found out I had just thrown 40 quid down a well.

22 minutes and you judge an entire game?

Sorry DM, this isn't being defensive, it's asking why the heck people are buying a game they KNOW is cutscene/story heavy then complaining after such short amounts of time.

This isn't Tetris for the DS, nor do I understand why some people expect it to be. If you can't give this game some of your time, why on earth did you buy it?

I wouldn't say going in with an open mind is 22 minutes of play, but each to his own.

I don't care that you dislike MGS4, it's just shocking me how gamers are giving up that quickly - Unless of course they don't really like heavy story based games, but then im completely puzzled at why they bought the finale to a series notorious for heavy story/cutscenes.

lol, hit the nail...

If Spookie cant stand the cutscenes he can always skip them and get to the game, because it is there, and its fun.

Nah that's even more pointless.

You don't buy a story based game, then skip every element of story

If you can't handle the heaviness of either story or cutscenes, you just don't buy MGS4. It's a niche game in that sense. If you oppose long cutscenes, or a heavy storyline, MGS4 is no way in hell going to win you over.

No MGS game ever will...

I'm a pretty big fanboy of the series and I even think he nailed it

No need to get defensive people ;)

We can disagree without being defensive ;)

I completely agree Audio. It doesn't make sense for people to buy a game of the Metal Gear franchise, known to be heavy in cutscenes and storytelling, and then complain about those two things.

Yeah, I mean I understand fans/those interested in MGS4 buying it and commenting on how the cutscenes are longer than previous games and/or the lengths may have ticked them off a bit.

Even some of the fans find some MGS/MGS4 things a bit heavy :p The pause feature introduced was really helpful and a good step in the right direction. Larrys final "play" time is probably going to be like 100 hours :p

However when people saying they "chucked their money away" or "after 22mins I gave up" in relation to cutscenes/story, that confuses/frustrates me due to what you pointed out above. Any gamer in the know, is going to know MGS titles are heavy on cutscenes and story, and that isn't going to change.

Nah that's even more pointless.

But now that he HAS bought it, he can skip to play the game so that he doesnt feel that he just wasted his 40 quid, Metal Gear Online alone is worth that in my opinion...

Hmmm it really is a waste though...

You just don't play a MGS game to walk away for the gameplay side of things.

It's like playing a FF game and skipping every cutscene. Ok you might find the gameplay fun, but it really is a waste of the game.

If you're skipping things/giving up after 22minutes, you shouldn't really own the game.

    • I used a Pixel 10 Pro XL when it first came out for about 8 months. When I first got it, it was using Google assistant and that was fast, when asking it to call somone etc. Then it automatically switched with some update to Gemini. Doing even the simplist of things like asking it to call someone in my contacts was soooooo slow compared to Google assistant. I guess it had to go out to the cloud to do that? Back on iPhone and while Siri is dumb right now, it does do those simple things, like call someone, set a timer, star the stop watch etc, really fast. That an while I like Google Material Design 3 over iOS 26, they Pixel 10 Pro XL was so slow in comparison to the iPhone 17 Pro I am using.
    • I use Gemini in my rotation of AI clients...that work pays for. It is good at most things, better than copilot for imgage searching and making images, worse at writing vs Claude and way worse at hadling technical issues when it comes to Azure stuff. I also use YT premium and maps. Anything else Google is a pass for me. I have now seen multiple people locked out of their Google accounts for reasons that are just very vauge.
    • Microsoft is building an AI datacenter that "uses less water than a fast food restaurant" by Ivan Jenic Image: Microsoft Microsoft has announced plans to build a new datacenter campus in Pecos, Texas, as the company continues to invest billions in AI infrastructure. The new facility, called project Kilby, will reportedly have a capacity of 2 gigawatts and will be one of the largest single capacity additions in the company’s history. To power the campus, Microsoft signed a 20-year deal with Chevron to supply natural gas from the Permian Basin, America's largest oil field. This deal is set to become the largest collaboration to date between a U.S. oil and gas giant and Big Tech. It’s no secret that Big Tech has often been criticized for exploiting natural resources for its AI developments. Microsoft is trying to mitigate some of that negative consensus by promising to build its own power supply for the new datacenter, independent of the public grid. The Pecos datacenter will be powered by a power plant hub, built by Chevron, with up to 2.5 gigawatts of gas-fired capacity, with potential to scale to up to 5 gigawatts. The facility will include at least seven GE Vernova turbines, with first power potentially coming online as early as late 2027 or early 2028. The power plant hub is part of an approximately $7 billion investment by Chevron, making it one of the largest dedicated energy projects tied to a single datacenter campus in the U.S. Microsoft hasn’t publicly disclosed the amount it’s investing in the new datacenter. Microsoft has also committed to implementing a closed-loop cooling system that will only require an initial water charge to operate. The company said that “the total lifecycle water use of this datacenter is only a fraction of that consumed annually by a typical fast-food restaurant.” What the press release doesn’t mention, however, is how much water the natural gas plant itself will consume, or how a 20-year fossil fuel commitment squares with the company's pledge to be carbon negative by 2030. The construction of the new datacenter should provide over 6,000 construction jobs at peak build-out, and create hundreds of operational job roles once the facility is built. Via: Reuters
