Jay-Z 1, Racism 0

Recommended Posts

Haha absolutely brilliant, hats off Jay-Z. He was on the Jonathan Ross show on Friday, good guy (Y)

As for Oasis, shutup. Oasis/Gallagher brothers are a bunch of arrogant cocks at times. I seriously dislike them. The MUSIC they make is good though.

As for this being attached to racism. Just no.

It's about music tastes/interests, and I can see why a typically indie/rock festival was strange for a Hip-Hop headliner - But this proved it can be done, so there. People running about attaching genres of music to racism are ignorant ######. People are racist, not music (N) (unless you want to start bringing up distasteful songs, but that's not my point).

Drives me around the bend when people start attaching hip-hop/rap to racism.

If someone says "I don't listen to Hip-Hop because mostly black people make it", leave hip-hop out of it, that person is just being racist full stop, unless they have a genuinely decent reason. Nothing to do with music.

I agree. I was pulled into an argument that had little to do with the thread. is it apart of it? Yes, is it the main part? No.

and YOU started a thread where you attacked ANYONE who don't like rap.

Point it out...

C-Squarez:

In your own interest I suggest you engage your brain first before making ridiculous accusations like in the first post of this thread.

I appreciate your advice. (Y)

Okay, maybe I missed something. I just came back home and I was reading over my posts which none have been edited but one and I couldn't find a post where I said Noel was racist. I also do not see where I said that because someone does not like a genre of music they must be racist. If I am not mistake what I said was:

There are alot of music genre's I don't care for, blue grass is one. That does not mean I have to criticize it at every turn like most of you do. I would't call myself a rock fan or alternative for that matter but right now I am getting ready for church and I am ironing clothes listening to Sum 41, Maroon 5, Flyleaf, Blink 182, Green Day, even Colbie Caillat. There are a few gems in every genre of music but most people, you may be one of them, say they hate the music as a cover for your real feelings.

No one commented on the snippet of that engadget article which is clearly ignorant. And No, I don't always pull the race card. Out of over 3700 posts, not even 1% talks about race. If there is a conversation about it, I jump in and thats that. But I am confused because I really don't see where I said if you don't like Hip Hop you are racist. Do some people hate hip hop music because it is mostly black artists? YES. The true is same for alot of genres.

In my first post I said:

Watch how they embrace him. This is a monumental event and it just shows that there is space for everyone musically. This is a big triumph for hip hop and a big loss for those little racist bastards!

So if they embrace Jay-Z at a "rock" festival, then they must not be racist. Most threads about Hip Hop on Neowin turn out like this, that says something. When there is a thread about any other form of music, the attacks stop.

From that same thread.

You're right.... but basically, it's because I hate black people

And I am delusional?

This thread was NOT flamebait ut I should have figured the ignorance it would bring.

Edit: This is nice.

“There is also an interesting undercurrent in the suggestion that a black, U.S. hip-hop artist shouldn’t be playing in front of what many perceive to be a white, middle-class audience. I’m not sure what to call it, at least not in public, but this is something that causes me some disquiet.”

Probably one of the most ridiculous threads I've ever seen on Neowin frankly. You need to go back and re-evaluate yourself BIG time C-Squarez.

All you talk about is ignorance and racism. Frankly I think you're ignorant and looking for hidden meaning which frankly doesn't exist. He's a notion for you - not everyone likes hip-hop. I, for example, really really dislike hip hop. Am I racist? No. I just hate hip hop as a genre - it just doesn't resonate inside me in the same way that genres such as electronica do. The main stage has traditionally never been opened with a hip hop act - on that basis, Noel Gallagher and his opinions are totally valid and in context.

If the majority of fans (for example) go to Glastonbury to see bands like Oasis (and of that sort of genre), then it would stand to reason that headlining with a hip hop artist like Jay-Z would put the cat amongst the pigeons. If Oasis were the warm up act for a Jay-Z concert, then how do you think that would go down?!

Get a grip.

Read my last post and address what I have said instead of blasting off at the mouth. I can post what I want, if you don't like it, don't read OR reply.

Edit: And where did I say that Noel Gallagher is racist? I may have missed it.

This thread was NOT flamebait ut I should have figured the ignorance it would bring.

Sure it was, it became flamebait as soon as you made the following quote in the initial post:

This is a big triumph for hip hop and a big loss for those little racist bastards!

Ok, what do you mean by:

This is a big triumph for hip hop and a big loss for those little racist bastards!

or

Jay-Z 1, Racism 0

Who the hell are you accusing of "racism"? Troll already addressed your Engadget quip, see post #45 for that.

Actually, you already did accuse most of them for not wanting Jay-Z at the concert because of his skin color (post #35). That statement right there shows how judgmental you are.

Read my last post and address what I have said instead of blasting off at the mouth. I can post what I want, if you don't like it, don't read OR reply.

Your discussion is on racism, and you quote Noel Gallagher in your opening post. He was the only outspoken critic of Jay-Z headlining. So you're pointing the finger squarely at him.

Don't make accusations and they try and get smart about it when someone picks you up on it.

Sure it was, it became flamebait as soon as you made the following quote in the initial post:

Thanks for at least quoting me instead of guessing what I meant.

Okay, as I have said in previous posts, when Hip Hop comes up, it is automatically associated with blacks. When I said "racists bastards" I was talking about the people like the one I quoted from engadget. Now is it possible that Jay-Z was not opened with open arms because he was black? Yes. Was I saying that Glastonbury was a racist event? No. Going back to my first post, I pointed out how the crowd embraced him which means that they more than likely NOT racist.

See the last post.

Are you telling me that, that is NOT the case? Maybe not most, but some. Can you say with a sraigh face that NO ONE at Glastonbury shunned him because he was black?

Can you say with a sraigh face that NO ONE at Glastonbury shunned him because he was black?

Oh for heavens sake. Sadly there are racists everywhere, in every walk of life, regardless of their skin color. That is an unfortunate fact. Given the sheer number of people at Glasto, it is quite conceivable that ONE person there could be racist.

Frankly i'd wager though that the people at Glasto actually would, on average, give a much better representation from a racism point of view than just randomly grabbing people off the street.

Of course some people are racist--that's a damn fact of life and doesn't apply to blacks. I'm not even caucasian and I can say it with a straight face that Jay-Z wasn't wanted at Glastonbury because hip-hop was never a tradition of the festival.

Kylie Minogue isn't black and the same happened to her. You need to get real and stop assuming the worst of people.

My discussion is partly on racism, not argument there. Maybe the title confused you. Let's do this together, read the title which is 4 "words" long, and then read my comments. I am not changing a thing about what was said. I stand behind every single one of my comments. If I am wrong, I will apologize but I am still waiting on you, or anyone else to point out where I said Noel was racist. Is he? I don't know. Are his comments fishy? Yes they are.

Now again, is it a FACT that alot of people DO NOT like hip hop because of it's affiliation with african americans? Yes it is.

So I am calling YOU out Chicane-UK, and anyone else for that matter to find a post or thread of mine where I was being flat out racist or even had racist implications. All of my posts are still on this board, find something. If you do, I will apologize.

Now, find a thread that hip hop is discussed and it does not go off course. There may be one out there.

This should be fun...

I don't see how this is Racism... Though I do think that Jay-Z should have rehearsed a little more with the band... I mean he is a good performer... Though it leads me to believe that he was having difficulty remembering the lyrics.

Though probably if he were still alive... Jimmy Hendrix would have probably been one of the honored performers at the festival.

Music transcends race, color , creed, and age.

I have a friend who in his 60's liked to listen to TuPac.

I mean when music can cross all kinds of gaps.

Case in point... remember this song and this artist

Wings Of A Dove -Charlie Pride

Okay, now slowly, go back to my posts in THIS thread, have I not said that? Some people hate Rock music because it is associated with white people. I have said that.

Thanks for this post. And yeah he did kind of butcher the song. I actually purchased the song from Amazon because of that youtube clip. I like it.

And you have also said that most people didn't want Jay-Z there because of his skin color. You can't be taken seriously with statements like that.

And you have also said that most people didn't want Jay-Z there because of his skin color. You can't be taken seriously with statements like that.

Maybe I should not have said most, but some don't. Am I wrong?

I went away for a while and had a chance to clear my mind and I am glad I did. Now we can discuss this freely. I was pulled into a bit of a fight a moment ago but I am ready and willing to debate my posts in this thread and post history on Neowin.

I was going to the gym but this is much more of a work out.

I appreciate you sticking around and not runnig away from your statements like a few people have. Let's get it going. (Y)

And some people who drive white cars are racist, and some people who drive black cars are racist.

What's the point in this backwards and forwards? Racist people exist everywhere. Fact is, what happened at Glastonbury had nothing to do with racism. It was pure and simply due to the musical history of the festival, and while I dislike seeing the Gallagher brothers/Oasis mouth off like they usually do, it's nothing to do with racism. Just the fact they are a bunch of arrogant loud mouths.

Jay-Z played, things went well, case over. Maybe next year a hip hop act will headline again.

But honestly, what is this racism chat all about.... Sorry, but it's getting quite pathetic now.

Instead we should be talking about the awesome entrance to the stage Jay-Z made! (Y)

No one is saying you're wrong about "some". The accusation of "most" was definitely wrong.

Well maybe I should watch my words. It was an unconcious statement. I still stand by my train of thought, but apologize for the wording.

And some people who drive white cars are racist, and some people who drive black cars are racist.

The second post started the racism chatter and I was pulled into it. I have explained my point a few times in this thread and don't feel like restating it. I am waiting for a few other people to get back in this thread though. I am about to start sending PM's because I now feel like debating.

Who the hell cares? You're making it sound as if there's a real issue of racism here specifically. Sure, there are racists, but you can't take every single event in life to be for or against racism.

If Obama wins the upcoming election, are you going to be posting a "Obama 1, Racism 0" too?

Seriously, none of this makes sense really. Why don't you leave this "news" as what it is, instead of trying to make it something it's not?

Still standing by that train of thought--sigh. What difference does it make if you apologize for the wording, but still think the same, absurd reasoning?

And no, the second post didn't start the racism chatter. It was your thread title and your last sentence in your OP.

Now again, is it a FACT that alot of people DO NOT like hip hop because of it's affiliation with african americans? Yes it is.

Yes but just because someone says they don't like Hip-Hop doesn't make them racist or their comments suspicious.

If Dolly Parton had been booked and Noel said he didn't like country music at rock festivals would you headline read "Dolly 1 Sexists 0"?

You obviously care since you are here. ;)

Now YES, there is an issue of racism here specifically and it is kind of blatant. I respect people like u_diddy and MarkJensen because they do not try to hide it. The ones that try to hide it by masking it as another subject all together are the ones that get on my nerves.

And YES, if Obama wins it WILL be Obama 1, Racism 0 because that is what it is. There was a time when blacks could not vote and it was not that long ago. So you should be able to answer that question easily.

Still standing by that train of thought--sigh. What difference does it make if you apologize for the wording, but still think the same, absurd reasoning?

The train of thought that some do, not most. And I have explained my point of view concerning the last sentence. I am starting to feel that no one reads anymore.

I feel like I have to put a disclaimer by all my posts. :|

Yes but just because someone says they don't like Hip-Hop doesn't make them racist or their comments suspicious.

I never said that.

Dig. Dig. Dig.

It's a long way down in that hole, eh C-Squarez?

If I am wrong, I will apologize but I am still waiting on you, or anyone else to point out where I said Noel was racist.

You could have posted that article as it was, with the title as "Jay-z plays at Glastonbury". However instead you put your own title in, and describe what I can only assume is Noel, or the fans at Glastonbury, because your thoughtless comments were wooly and vague. You describe 'them' as "little racist bastards". You can't blame people for filling in the gaps that your poor comments left.

I've been following this thread, and was suprised it made it to 2 pages. It's C-Squarez vs. the rest of the world here, so why not just close the damned thread.

EDIT:

Are his comments fishy? Yes they are.
Yes but just because someone says they don't like Hip-Hop doesn't make them racist or their comments suspicious.
I never said that.

The only thing that Noel said was that he disproves of hip-hop at Glastonbury, and you describe his comments as fishy, i.e. suspicious.

    • Ocenaudio 3.19.4 by Razvan Serea Ocenaudio is a full featured, fast and easy to use audio and music editor. It is the ideal software for people who need to edit and analyze audio files without complications. Ocenaudio also has powerful features that will please more advanced users. To assist ocenaudio development, a powerful toolset of audio editing, analysis and manipulation called Ocen Framework was created. ocenaudio is also based on Qt framework, a well known library for cross-platform development. Cross-platform support ocenaudio is available for all major operating systems: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Native applications are generated for each platform from a common source, in order to achieve excelent performance and seamless integration with the operating system. All versions of ocenaudio have a uniform set of features and the same graphical interface, so the skills you learn in one platform can be used in the others. VST plugins support Ocenaudio supports VST (Virtual Studio Technology) plugins, giving its users access to numerous effects. Like the native effects, VST effects can use real-time preview to aide configuration. Real-time preview of effects Applying effects such as EQ, gain and filtering is an important part of audio editing. However, it is very tricky to get the desired result by adjusting the controls configuration alone: you must listen the processed audio. To ease the configuration of audio effects, ocenaudio has a real time preview feature: you hear the processed signal while adjusting the controls. The effect configuration window also includes a miniature view of the selected audio signal. You can navigate on this miniature view in the same way as you do on the main interface, selecting parts that interest you and listening to the effect result in real time. Multiselection for delicate editions To speed up complex audio files editing, ocenaudio includes multi-selection. With this amazing tool, you can simultaneously select different portions of an audio file and listen, edit or even apply an effect to them. For example, if you want to normalize only the excerpts of an interview where the interviewee is talking, just select them and apply the effect. Eficient edition of large files With ocenaudio, there is no limit to the length or the quantity of the audio files you can edit. Using an advanced memory management system, the application keeps your files open without wasting any of your computer's memory. Even in files several hours long, common editing operations such as copy, cut or paste happen almost instantly. Fully featured spectrogram Besides offering an incredible waveform view of your audio files, ocenaudio has a powerful and complete spectrogram view. In this view, you can analyze the spectral content of your audio signal with maximum clarity. Advanced users will be surprised to find that the spectrogram settings are applied in real time. The display is updated immediately when altering features such as the number of frequency bands, window type and size and dynamic range of the display. • This got me thinking, would you rather a self driving car prioritise protecting its passengers or everyone else? I'd choose the one that keeps me and my kids safest. At some point, these cars have to make those choices already, don't they? Wonder if we have a way to find out what way they lean.
    • The proportion (or number of iterations) has nothing to with this aspect of Copyright I am describing. In short, it doesn't matter how many times the manager tells you to change something or how. Your work product is always YOURS until and unless you then assign that to the person representing the client/company, usually for financial compensation -- either in salary or as a subcontract work for hire payment. if iterations determined copyright, then businesses would have learned to just keep making changes until they could claim they owned the copyright, without having to compensate the artist for their work. And that would be BAD. The only place where the amount of changes does have a role is in how much does a human modify a previous public domain work (from any source) before it is considered fair use or their own work, etc. For example, if a human makes substantial changes to a public domain (re: AI, by definition) work, then they can then claim that derivative work as their own...but NEVER the original version, of course. That's why anyone can make a movie about Dracula, for example, as long as it is based on the public domain novel, but not if they take new ideas from copyrighted movies made afterwards. As one of the people who personally advised the US Copyright Office on their recent ruling on these very issues, be assured that I specifically used the terminology precisely -- though I made it simple enough for laymen to understand it. If I made this confusing by doing so, I apologize. But, to be clear regarding your assumption that I would agree to your second statement that I quoted above -- the answer is NO. If AI does the work, no matter how much "direction" you give it, it cannot be copyrighted. All AI generated content is in the Public Domain and therefore the copyright cannot be assigned to ANYONE, even you -- until and unless substantial modifications are made to it BY A HUMAN BEING (yourself or a contracted artist/writer/etc.) and then that copyright on the derivative work is legally (in writing) transferred to you. This is a critical distinction. And it is important that people, especially AI sloppers, understand this. For example, YouTube is not paying AI slop generators for the copyright, etc. of their AI slop. What YouTube is doing is sharing AD REVENUE for permission to publish your AI slop. Copyright/ownership/rights never come into it. Importantly, that means that anyone can copy any AI slopware on YouTube, etc. and rehost it anywhere they want, even back on YouTube, and there is nothing legal that YouTube can do about it with regards to copyright protections, ownership, DMCA, etc. Anyone is legally free to use any AI slopware in any way they want. When this ruling was pending, I warned Disney legal of all of this before they did their OpenAI deal -- that it would literally dilute their entire IP portfolio forever. They ignored that warning for the PR and stock bump. But that is why, when the ruling came down last year, Disney quickly extricated themselves from that OpenAI deal, even eating the initial upfront fees -- followed closely by OpenAI ending their entire AI video generating business model. They adjusted their PR release dates to make this less obvious to shareholders, of course. Phew. I hope that this clears up the key distinctions for you and anyone reading. If you have any additional questions or even hypotheticals about AI and Copyright, please feel free to ask.
