Prevent Wake on Mouse

9 posts in this topic

I've had an issue for a while and maybe you guys can help. My computer spends most of its time in 'Sleep Mode'. The problem is that recently I've switched to a wireless mouse and keyboard (Logitech, non-bluetooth) and now my computer's started to randomly wake up in the middle of the night or while I'm in class. I think it's the mouse triggering it. How do I prevent mouse movement from waking the computer out of sleep mode? Normally I'd go to Device Manager, check properties of the mouse, and uncheck the "Allow this device to wake the computer" box under the Power Management tab (i.e. link); the problem is that there is no power management tab on my list for the mouse. Running Windows Vista Basic.

Thanks for the help. This has been bothering me for a while now and I can't figure it out.

Check your BIOS for any "Wake On" events, and disable any (or all) that you don't specifically need - check for any keyboard or mouse related events.

I was going to say to install the SetPoint software as well as it adds all the additional Windows features for Logitech mice.

I installed the latest version of SetPoint but couldn't fix the problem. There's no option in the settings menu and I still cant set the "Power Management" options from the Device Manager (I was hoping updated drivers would help). I checked the BIOS and the only available option is for "Wake on LAN".

mouse MOVEMENT shouldn't wake the computer from sleep - just clicks...

I don't understand the issue because before I could move the mouse all over the place, juggle it in the air, play fetch with my dog and the computer would stay in sleep. Now ANY kind of movement from the mouse wakes the computer even a nudge to the desk. But the computer also randomly wakes up when the mouse is sitting inside the charge cradle which holds the mouse in place. I'm trying to rule out problems one at a time and since mouse movement is one of the major issues, I'm hoping that if I can stop the computer from waking from mouse input it'll also stop the random wakes when it's in the charge station.

I've tried searching for a solution all over the net but its hard to come up with the right keywords to come up with any good results.

goto control panel and double click the Mouse icon. Now click "Hardware", do you see the name of your mouse there? If so, then choose its properties and click "Power Management (If it's there). then click the check box to delete the check where it says "Allow this device to wake the computer". Show us more screen shots to let us know what we are dealing with.

Go back to device manager and choose universal serial bus controllers. look for anything that says Infrared, if you see anything that says anything about Infrared or wireless ___, then you can choose that and click the power management option in it's properties.
