NICOLAS ANELKA has finally revealed the long-held secret of why he walked out on Arsenal a decade ago with the world at his feet.

The Chelsea striker, who faces his old club next Sunday at Stamford Bridge, has made the extraordinary claim that it was to punish the Gunners fans for their ingratitude.

He even claims he scored 17 Premier League goals during his final season with Arsenal in a spirit of vengeance.

Unknown until now, Anelka harboured a grudge after learning fans had voted against him being able to replace scoring legend Ian Wright in their team.

He said: “When I started the season, there was a poll because I had taken the place of Ian Wright.

“I thought the fans really wanted it to be me and were pleased with me. But seeing the result in the papers and on TV hit me hard because I had the feeling I had done things for nothing.

“I thought ‘So that’s how it is. This is how you thank me. Okay, now you watch what is going to happen. I am going to play, score my goals and just when you are saying Anelka, Anelka, that’s when I’m going to leave.’

“And that is exactly what I did because I was furious with them.”

Since that bizarre decision, Anelka, the leading Premier League scorer this season with xxxxxx, has played against Arsenal for Liverpool, Manchester City, Bolton and Chelsea without ever coming clean on his reasons for quitting Highbury back in 1999.

The France international played a key role in helping the Gunners to the ‘Double’ in 1998 and scored his first goal in English football in a crucial win over Manchester United.

:D Well good you arrogant a-h**e..

It's like we still ruin he left us?? :p What a piece of **** this guy is..

NEWS FLASH: We replaced you Anelka.. your replacement was Henry who became the club top scorer of all-time.

So that means we were punished with Henry :p I want to be punished like this more often then..

Maybe he looks back now and thinks.. I made a big blunder..

Its good he ruined his career and it took him 10 years to get to where he was with us.. that's karma ;)

Top strikers are something we never missed at Arsenal.. I guess Reyes will come out next saying he punished us too?

van Persie and Ade playing for us.. Eduardo to come back.. Vela the talent that makes my jaw drop everytime he plays..

Arsenal's problems are in midfield and defence.. not strikers..

I just wish we had defence like Tony Adams and Campbell.. just to say to Anelka.. welcome back to playing in front of Arsenal fans :p

edit: arsenal kind of reminds me of liverpool when we won the CL, so anything can happen. We died in the premiership too that year but managed to win it.

Not really. Arsenal have no soul this year, and that was a huge part that led to our success in the European Cup in 2005.

Roy Keane on his way out?, bad loss there today for Sunderland.

So we'll give Liverpool 3 points on Monday help them climb back to the top :p

Hey don't forget us.. if we win today.. we'll be only the second team to do some years :p

and in doing so will give a chance to the first team who beat Chelski at the Bridge to go top ;)

I think we gifted you 3 points when you played us as well :p

Thank you Arsenal for beating Chelsea. Massive game against West Ham for us tomorrow.

Heeey.. np.. any time ;)

'Cmon you Gooners!!!

we scored all 3 goals of the match

Makes me think if Wenger is really right about lack of experience not being Arsenal's main problem... Arsenal's main problem does seem to be in their heads.. when they are not over confident they win.. coz they try like mad..

But we do need physical.. big.. strong players.. especially defenders..

Ahem.. Arsenal fans wanted to see the man they miss the most.. where was Anelka?

Arsenal fans, do you not think that todays result puts you in an identical situation to the one when you beat Man Utd just a few weeks ago? That supposedly revitalised your season, but you lost your following two games after that to lowly teams.

Wigan is your next game ;)

I think so yeah.. and its Wenger's job now to make sure that these kids keep their feet on the ground and give their all in the next game.. as I said earlier.. it seems they take non big 4 teams too lightly and that is the main reason they lose those game.. see this season.. Man U and now Chelsea.. last season was the same.. suggests lack of experience might not be such a big problem as lack of focus, over-confidence and lack of physical strength.

Van Persie was offside.

However we have had off-side decisions given against us when they should have been on-side, so it seems to even itself out.

Arsenal were the better team.

Ivanovic and Terry should have been sent off, Ivanovic for 4 blatant obstructions and Terry for a 2 footed challenge.

However as the 'filth' were playing at home they usually get let off.

Denilson should have been booked for a dive, but wasn't.

Overall Arsenal could have won 4-1 or 5-2.

We were the better team over the 96 minutes of play.

Less of the 'filth' comments. Lets not turn this thread into the same bilge as other football forums.

Disagree anyway - Chelsea were the better team over the course of the game, and were comfortable until the 60th minute or so. Adebeyor was quiet, and Nasri was non-existent, with Bosingwa allowed too much space and time to overlap. However, Chelsea completely failed to capitalise on their pressure and Arsenal did very well to go on and score two, with two great finishes by VP. Was just as much Chelsea's lack of an end product as it was Arsenal playing well, as they certainly didn't dominate.

btw 2x celebrations for Arsenal fans today.. We won and Spurs lost :p

Shame we both got no chance of winning the league though, eh? ;)

Have to agree with FaRSightxc2 abt filth comment.. Plz no insulting comments.. I dont like Chelsea but they are not a bad team. But FaRSightxc we were the better team.. they had 60% possession and 2 shots on target.. we had 40% and 7 shots.. we shut them up completely at times.. Our first goal was offside but whatever.. as Lee said it cancels out the times onsides were given offsides against us..

Shame we both got no chance of winning the league though, eh? ;)

We can't win the title now.. but we can just win our games and hope top 3 slip up in 2-3 games.. so basically we have to wait for others to lose it.. But to say no chance is wrong.. There is always hope.. We still got a chance.. But its not in our hands now as much as in others.. the kids today showed again they have what it takes to win.. they just need to keep their heads and Arsene should spend this winter and get reinforcements.. Podolski is not bad.. someone who can score from range.. Schwansteiger and Barry will be available.. we have the money.. lets do what is needed..

Oh and I'm so happy for Tony Adams today.. wish him every success expect against Arsenal :p

Fair enough, all about difference of opinions (Y)

Just don't think it was so clear cut that one team was better than the other, as Chelsea were good for long periods.

I thinks it's gone now. Chelsea are not great at home, which might be worrying for them, but I still think Arsenal are too far off the pace to catch them, especially with Liverpool and Manchester UTD up there too.

I wasn't fooled when we beat Man Utd and I certainly won't be fooled now.

Yeah, Chelsea were better overall I would say. They controlled the first half and could have scored one or two more to finish the game off. The start of the second half was almost identical, but we hit them with two quick-fire goals (one of which was clearly offside), and after that it was quite befuddling how Chelsea failed to give any kind of response. They went forward more sure, but none of their attacks came close to fruition. I'm sure part of this was due to good defending on our part, but it just seemed Chelsea didn't know what to do after conceding the goals. I suppose that's what you get for conceding so few goals all season - when you do concede them in quck succession, you don't know what to do! :p

Adebayor, Nasri, Denilson were all woeful. Good thing van Persie was there to save the day. Clichy was immense stealing balls from behind.

Edited by Kev1n

Maybe in the next game we should play the kids who beat Wigan 3-0 in Carling Cup :p

Clichy was immense stealing balls from behind.

Clichy was the candidate for MotM for me.. love his attitude.. never gives up and always give it his 100%

Anyways.. the real heroes for us were in defence.. and surprisingly Alex Song :woot:

Midfield seemed overwhelmed by hats-off to defence for keeping the Chelsea midfield from scoring..

The timing of the goals was crucial.. Chelsea seemed stunned after that.. had we scored these or even 1 in the first half.. they would have scored and possibly won the game in second half.. Even if I agree that Chelsea were better.. the win was even bigger in that case.. and anyways.. no one knows what it feels like to be the better team and come away with nothing more than Arsenal fans sadly..

Anyways.. all eyes on Anfield today.. we gave a similar chance to Chelsea last season when we beat Man Utd but Chelsea blew it.. lets see whether it the Liverpool fans celebrating today or the rest of top 3 ;)

Hey Rappy.. maybe it's the Arsenal/Man U/Chelsea fans thanking you later today

You and me and many fans were not fooled but it seemed the guys who mattered began to think they are invincible after that game and it backfired.. lets hope they learnt and we don't see another 0 points for us game..

Very good game from Rooney yesterday. He was everywhere and showed his team the right way with his unstoppable motivation. Evra was brilliant too, and Raphael is definitely a massive young talent.

We are better than City and we proved it to the two peoples who still doubt about it. :D

About the Ronaldo incident, I personnaly think he gave himself too much pressure in his wil to show to the world he deserves the Ballon D'Or. He was not focused on the game, and I really don't like to see him like that. Maybe Fergie should replaces him for Nani juste after the first booking. And put Anderson ont the pitch instead of Giggs, and maybe we have that 50 mettres goal Rooney should have scored. Anyway, great run from Joe Hart. :D

Rafael does look good but has a tendency to dive in which puts him in unneeded pressure when he gets booked which he will do because he usually misses the ball :p Currently he's a lot better going forward than defending due to his size as well.

Rooney has got better as a person over the seasons, when ronny got sent off he sprinted off to the sidelines to know how the team was to change etc (Y)

As for the sending off, i suppose he had to go but has ruud gullit said (think it was him) on Sky, there was no reason to do it. We were winning so didn't need to score, there was plenty of time left in the game *if* we needed a goal which we didnt. His hands were in front of his head so he could easily have headed it. By the looks of things he tried to catch it, not punch it towards goal so wasn't looking to score. Things just don't add up :p

Disagree on the Anderson for Giggs swap, Anderson isn't the best at defending or as experienced which is what we needed, although we needed someone other than Giggs at the end as he seemed reluctant to shoot

I'm not sure Giggs was the better option at the moment, but he did well.

I just said Anderson would have shoot, or passed the ball to Rooney quicker than Giggs.

    • An actual cosmic "Eye of Sauron" had been looking straight at us all along by Sayan Sen Image by Kovin P. Vasquez via Pexels | Not representative An international team of researchers has solved a long-standing mystery surrounding a distant blazar known as PKS 1424+240, helping explain why it produces some of the brightest high-energy gamma rays and cosmic neutrinos ever observed despite appearing to have a relatively slow-moving jet. The findings were published on June 6 in Astronomy & Astrophysics Letters. The study addresses a broader challenge in astrophysics: understanding how extreme cosmic objects accelerate particles to very high energies and produce very high-energy (VHE) photons and neutrinos. PKS 1424+240 is located billions of light-years from Earth. It has attracted attention for years because it is both a powerful source of VHE gamma rays and the brightest known neutrino-emitting blazar in the sky, according to observations by the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. It is also associated with one of the strongest peaks in IceCube's nine-year neutrino sky map A blazar is a type of active galactic nucleus powered by a supermassive black hole that pulls in surrounding matter and launches jets of plasma moving close to the speed of light. What makes blazars unique is their orientation. One of their jets points almost directly toward Earth, making them appear exceptionally bright across the electromagnetic spectrum and allowing scientists to study some of the most extreme physical processes in the Universe. The scientists exclaimed it's like the 'Eye of Sauron' in deep space. Usually, the brightest gamma-ray-emitting blazars are expected to have jets that appear to move very quickly. However, radio observations of PKS 1424+240 suggested that its jet was moving much more slowly, creating a contradiction that became part of a long-running problem known as the "Doppler factor crisis." To investigate, researchers analyzed 15 years of observations from the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA), a network of 10 radio antennas spread across the continental United States, Hawaii and St. Croix. Using a technique called Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI), astronomers combine signals from widely separated radio telescopes to create a virtual Earth-sized telescope capable of revealing extremely fine details. The team combined 42 polarization-sensitive radio images collected between 2009 and 2025, creating a much deeper and more detailed view of the jet than had previously been possible. The observations were carried out as part of MOJAVE (Monitoring Of Jets in Active galactic nuclei with VLBA Experiments), a long-running program that studies the brightness, polarization and magnetic field structures of jets produced by active galaxies. The project aims to better understand how activity near supermassive black holes is linked to high-energy radiation and neutrino emission. “When we reconstructed the image, it looked absolutely stunning,” said Yuri Kovalev, lead author of the study and Principal Investigator of the European Research Council-funded MuSES project at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy. “We have never seen anything quite like it — a near-perfect toroidal magnetic field with a jet, pointing straight at us.” The image revealed an unusual geometry. The researchers found that Earth lies almost directly in line with the jet, with a viewing angle of less than 0.6 degrees. In simple terms, astronomers are looking almost straight down the jet. This turned out to be the key to the mystery. Because the jet is aimed almost directly at Earth, a relativistic effect called Doppler boosting dramatically increases its apparent brightness. The study found that this effect boosts the emission by a factor of about 30 while also making the jet appear slower than it actually is. “This alignment causes a boost in brightness by a factor of 30 or more,” said Jack Livingston, a co-author at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy. “At the same time, the jet appears to move slowly due to projection effects — a classic optical illusion.” The nearly head-on view also gave scientists a rare look at the jet's magnetic field. Using polarized radio signals, they detected a clear toroidal, or doughnut-shaped, magnetic field component. The observations suggest the jet carries an electric current and that its magnetic field helps launch, shape and stabilize the flow of plasma. Researchers believe this magnetic structure may also play a key role in accelerating particles to energies high enough to produce both gamma rays and neutrinos. “Solving this puzzle confirms that active galactic nuclei with supermassive black holes are not only powerful accelerators of electrons, but also of protons — the origin of the observed high-energy neutrinos,” Kovalev said. The research was conducted under the MuSES (Multi-messenger Studies of Energetic Sources) project, which investigates how active galactic nuclei accelerate particles and generate different cosmic signals, including light and neutrinos. Scientists say understanding how protons are accelerated and linked to neutrino production remains one of the major unanswered questions in astrophysics. The findings help explain why some blazars can appear to have slow jets while still producing extremely bright high-energy emissions. More broadly, the study strengthens the link between relativistic jets, magnetic fields, gamma rays and high-energy neutrinos. Researchers say the results provide new clues about how some of the Universe's most powerful natural particle accelerators work and offer important insights for multimessenger astronomy, which combines different types of cosmic signals to study extreme events in space.
