i came in here about to post this as news but you beat me to it ;)

but anyways... lets hope this finally fixes those massive memory leaks i have on Vista SP1 when using Pidgin and talking to people alot as it would eat up more and more ram when i used to do that (60-80MB+ at times and would probably have went much higher had i not exited and reloaded the app to free up the ram it ate)

cause i could talk to someone for a hour or two etc and ram usage would keep climbing higher and higher the more i talked.

ill test this v2.4.3 out in the next few days and see how it goes ;)

p.s. IF these memory leaks are fixed... i think this is clearly the best 'all-in-one' chatting app out there as i been using this since it was called 'Gaim' ;)

Does it support yahoo clients, I have people on yahoo but can't add them.

Thanks for news anyway! (Y)

yeah it supports Yahoo clients... i use it on mainly AIM (my #1 use) and MSN (my #2 use) but i do use Yahoo a little to.

p.s. if you use any of the fancy features like web cam etc... you wont like Pidgin as it does not currently support those features.... but if all you do is basically use it for 'chatting' (and maybe some file transfer related stuff) then odds are Pidgin is a good choice as it dont have any BS installed (no ads or spyware etc) in it and it gets straight to the point and it aint bloated software which is always a huge plus.

and also, it's always nice to run just '1' program instead of like 2-3+ if you use other chatting programs like aim-msn-yahoo etc etc as this you just start up and your good to go unlike running many other chatting apps which probably burn up more time/memory to use.

I guess it's an earlier-than-planned release because ICQ was unusable since yesterday. And yes, some old European countries still use ICQ :p

yeah ICQ supposedly works. im connected on ICQ now myself but i just remembered my account info for ICQ as i aint used it in ages so i dont have any one on my list but im connected to it fine right now.

when i add an @yahoo.com account, it tells me it's not a valid passport account. :s

You'll have to create a yahoo account in pidgin. You can't add yahoo contacts to a msn account in pidgin. Why? Because Pidgin supports only a very old version of the MSN protocol...

Still use AIM. Seems to handle file transfers a lot better than GAIM or Pidgin.

ill admit file transfers at times can be a little glitchy but aint no way i would use a new version of the AIM messenger over pidgin cause of all the crap that's in it.

did you ever try using pidgin to pidgin on something like AIM protocol and see how file transfers go then? (cause i never have myself)

really? i thought you just add your account and put in your username/password and it works and auto lists all the contacts that you had on your friends list in the first place.... seems fine for me

well so far on Vista SP1 using Pidgin i dont think those 'memory leaks' are fixed from what i can tell right at this moment cause when viewing ram usage in the processes tab on task manager it's currently @ about 32MB and it seems to keep climbing higher and higher the more i talk to people on aim etc etc.... so if it keeps raising it's pretty much the same as v2.4.2 which is not good in terms of memory leaks.

anyone else confirm this?

p.s. already jumped to a little over 32-1/4MB as i finished editing this post.

well i just noticed it must have gotten better cause durring my previous post (above) i said it was about 32MB and climbing.... well after a while it must free up ram now cause im currently back to about 22MB now on pidgin where as it was up to around 34MB at one time.... so only thing i can think of is durring a chat it keeps going higher and higher but once you close the chat window(s) after a while it seems to free the ram back up as far as i can tell.

So you have your yahoo contacts visible in your hotmail account? And can you add yahoo contacts also?

It finally fixes the "no avatar shown" in Yahoo, but it still has a long way to go, what with audio and video not even implemented after being planned for so long.

Pidgin is nice when I'm using Linux, but like another poster, Digsby pretty much topped it in my book...

Also, I don't understand the hate for the official AIM client. If all you use is AIM's network and have no need for an all-in-one messenger, the official is just fine. It seems like the only thing anyone ever complains about is clutter, and I've gotta ask:

Have NONE of you heard of Aim Ad Hack?

Meh, I didn't really like Digsby. I prefer to use Pidgin. I usually only use AIM on it too. The reason for that is because it looks better than using the Official AIM on vista. The official aim client just looks ugly. I just have my Pidgin setup to look as minimal as possible. And I love it for that fact.

i used digsby but noticed that when digsby was in the background my explorer.exe cpu constntly took 8-12 cpu power. I'll use digsby again if they will fix it. I'm now trying pidgin.

thanks.

Same thing happens to me, only reason I don't use digsby.

Pidgin is not that good, specially when that asshat attitude of their developers is being reflected in the program.

Why are the developers asshats? Pidgin is great imo, not as much features as programs like digsby, but I find it incredibly stable and love the simple UI.
