Watch Appe's, its a much better representation of how playing soldier works in 6v6, also its him playing against some of the best teams in europe, and some of him playing for sweden against other national teams, so you have to remember he is against awesome players ;) The clan im in only plays no crits (of course kritzkrieg etc... works), most of the european clans want the competitive game to be completely skill based.

You can't really tell consistancy from a frag video, since they are normally just the luckiest shots.

<<snipped: some tidbits about the Scout update>>

As most Steam users know, the Steam Hardware Survey automatically collects information about the community's computer hardware configurations and presents an aggregate picture of the stats on our web site. The survey helps us make better engineering and gameplay decisions, because it makes sure we're targeting machines our customers actually use, rather than measuring only against the hardware we've got in the office. We often get asked about the configuration of the machines we build around the office to do both game and Steam development. We also tend to turn over machines in the office pretty rapidly, at roughly every 18 months.

Our current base configuration looks about like this:

EVGA 780i SLI FTW Intel Motherboard

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz Quad-Core Processor

4GB PC2-6400 DDR2 1066MHz ram

(Crucial Ballistix, Kingston ValueRam)

1 x NVidia GTX280 1GB - OR - ATI 4870 1GB graphics card

1 x 250GB 7200RPM SATA HD

(Seagate, Western Digital)

1 x 500GB 7200RPM SATA HD

(Seagate, Western Digital)

Antec Sonata III desktop case

Zalman CPU Cooler

850W Antec power supply

1 x Dell 3008FPW-HC 30" LCD - OR - 2 x Dell 2001FP 20.1" LCD monitors

Windows XP 32bit

We're currently transitioning to this setup:

EVGA X58 3X SLI Intel Motherboard

Intel Corei7 940 2.93GHz Quad-Core Processor

12GB PC3-10600 DDR3 1333MHz ram

(Crucial Ballistix, Kingston ValueRam)

1 x NVidia GTX285 1GB - OR - ATI 4870 1GB graphics card

1 x 250GB 7200RPM SATA HD (Seagate, Western Digital)

1 x 500GB 7200RPM SATA HD (Seagate, Western Digital)

Lian Li P60-F Case

Intel CPU Cooler

850W Antec power supply

1 x Dell 3008FPW-HC 30" LCD - OR - 2 x Dell 2001FP 20.1" LCD monitors

Windows Vista 64bit

Those are some beasts of game development and testing machines. :| Fortunately even with machines like those they still manage to produce games that run well on aging systems.

(side note: interesting that they still had XP loaded on a machine like that. :| Now with rigs loaded with 12 GB they're pretty much forced to use Vista 64-bit. :D)

^ I get that error every time I close TF2.

Apparently, a lot of people do. I hope the next update fixes it.

Beasts? Those aren't beasts! They're monsters. Perhaps now they'll actually address Team Fortress 2 issues in Windows Vista. After all, they're going to use it so they're bound to run into it.

Actually crits are disabled when playing 6 on 6. Even the random numbers (limits) are set to a number with no standard deviation to reduce the overall error and make winning the game more skilled base.

Btw, Scirwode I added you.

You mean random crits are disabled, because kritzkrieg, axtinguisher etc... still works. Controlled crits are fine, since its still skill based. I don't see who you are correcting? (It's implied your correcting someone due to the bold text  )

In America, crits are not disabled in a lot of the big leagues, where-as in europe crits are disabled. It seems though, when the best team from europe play the best from America crits are disabled (which is good ;))

Wouldn't count on it - it's been happening for looonnnnggg time now, and no update has ever fixed it.

I'm definitely counting on it. According to this, they're switching to new hardware and software which includes Windows Vista 64-bit. The problem seems to affect users on Windows Vista. See where I'm going with this? Chances are they'll run into the issue and they'll be forced to fix it.

Oh finally. Force-A-Nature unlockable revealed. (Y)

So it looks like it'll give anything a ridiculously overpowered knockback (including the scout himself), and as expected, only has two rounds per reload.

There's a new matching shirt in Valve's store.

You can also vote on the order you want to see the unlockables made to you!

I miss the level 3 bomb cart.

Interesting things landed in one of the updates (people just noticed a few days ago), There's now a red bomb cart (to go with the blue one) and a silver intel case, no team assignment (king of the hill style gameplay?)

Dug up this post from three months ago. So let's see how things are right now:

- They prepared a red bomb cart in anticipation of this 'competitive' Payload game mode that might be coming soon.

- Not sure about the silver intel case...

- The no team assignment was exploited not too long ago and still remains unfixed, but can be fixed with a server-side plugin

This update is getting better and better.

I can't wait!

No kidding.....I hope the Forec-a-Nature does enough dmg to kill some of the other classes in one hit (enough to 1-hit a heavy would be OP, but I would love to 1-hit medics, engineers, snipers, spys and other scouts....heck, maybe even pyro's since they kill scouts so easily anyway).

Who knows though, chances are it wont be much more damage, just a knock your opponent 30 feet back effect.......if so, good way to launch enemy medics straight to your team. :p

The no team assignment was about the intel case :p

CTF that any team could capture, and the winner is decided on based on how long they hold it (or how many times they captured it)

Man, now I've got an idea in my head for a map, set at a dock, there's a moored boat, on opposite sides there's red/blu fronts and they have to get the intel out of the ship and capture it for their side.

TF2 is a great polished game that throws away the grim, dark gameplay of Call of Duty 4, Gears of War and Metal Gear Solid 4 and replaces it with a casual cartoon like feel. It's what convinced me to actually buy a game on Steam. It's great fun when I have to time to fill.

I doubt the damage will increase by much, if any.

I don't understand why the damage would be increased. You get knockback for its advantage and slower reload for the disadvantage. All the new items have one pro and one con, right? A crit shotgun blast from the scout kills most enemies when in certain range. I assume this would do the same thing so you just have to use it more strategically since it only has two shells.

Slow reload and small clip size.......2 cons, there should be 2 advantages.

Making it a 1 hit kill weapon is too great of an advantage though.

It wouldn't always be a 1-hit weapon though.....look at the scatter gun.....point blank it can at most do like 105 damage.....thats not even enough damage to kill another scout. At least boost the Force-A-Nature high enough to 1-hit the 125 hp classes. Seriously, a gun with enough power to knock something back is going to do MORE damage than a gun without that ability.

Besides, 2 pointblank shots with the scatter gun will kill Medics, Engineers, Scouts, Snipers and Spys.....sometimes Pyro's, Demoman and even Soldiers IF it hits for its max damage (or at least an average of 100 on each shot). Its typically impossible to get enough pointblank shots on Pyro's, Demoman and soldiers unless they are distracted......the Force-A-Nature, considering it has a mere 2-shot clip size, should be enough to kill everything but a heavy.....if your in close and you dont get 2 point blank shots, you would be practically screwed.

To make it even worse, depending on the knockback, you might knock a target out of your effective range, meaning if you dont 1-hit kill them, you have to chase them down and they will certainly know you are there, making it even harder for you to get in close for a second shot.

In all honesty, if it doesnt have any damage increase, I think I'll stick with the standard scattergun once I finish playing around with the knockback of the Force-A-Nature.......I just started playing FPS's again over the past week, I have a hard enough time killing anyone at close range....once they know I am there and start moving, chances are I'm dead unless their distracted or even worse than me.
