Yeah it definitely seems like a time based thing rather than skill. I think they're more assuming that if you're connected to a server you're playing, rather than idling, so they count that as playing time.

 WHY.... WHY!!!!!

I have been like trying different classes and trying different play tactis to see if that will improve my chances but it doesnt :(

However I did get Razor - Back .... and the Force-A-Nautre but I mean its nothing special.

Picked this up from my community's forums.

At Toronto's Anime North, there was this:

That Cosplay... Is probably like the single most awesomeness thing I have ever SEEN!!!

Thoughts on the new map by the way?

I have yet to play it, been wh0ring up 24/7 2Fort too much trying to get achievements and unlockables.

Obviously until we here from Valve, we can only make educated guesses, but I'm guessing its more or less random. They've already stated that someone playing more TF2 will get more unlocks so its connected to playing time somehow, whether its through server connections, average time in a server etc

Well I believe Valve said that the system is not working out "as well as they are hoping", so I'm pretty sure some fix/patch is coming soon. Just enjoy the game, Valve is on it...

This is how Valve says the system works.

That new system watches the amount of time that players are playing TF2, and gives them a chance to find items at regular intervals. They aren't guaranteed to get the item at those points, but they have a pretty good chance.

Say for example the intervals are every hour, and the chance of getting an item is 50%. Every hour, it will run a random algorithm where you have a 50% chance of getting something. Some hours you will get something, some hours you will get nothing at all. Considering there are thousands of people who are playing TF2, stastistically there are bound to be some people who manage to consistently get nothing almost every time the interval comes up.

hmm ok fair enough :)

Well if this game was anything like World of Warcraft, Valve would be rolling in it with the amount of time people are going to need to unlock iteams and over such an extensive amount of time haha.

I like the sound of that, however the whole chance thing doesnt really bide with my liking *GRR!!!!

Time + playing - doing school working - work + X (being the time on TF2, spector) = Iteams :p

Woohoo.....16 hours after the update (at least 6 hours after my first unlock) I finally got my 2nd item drop......f*%&$*% Natascha....

Hey Hey Hey!!.... Natascha is all good :p

Get a good medic with KritzKreig and your pretty much total awesomeness!

I guess the hats really are rare. My brother tells me that he always gets a comment from two players or more about the Fancy Fedora (Spy hat). One person even asked "Since when does the Spy have a hat?" So far I've only seen Mining Light (Engineer helmet) and the Scout's Batter Helmet, whatever it's called.

That hats are quite interesting but do they do anything for your character other than look cool?

I have seen the scounts Base Ball Helmet plus the spys little hat and the Demoman one, which has like a glowing rim around the front of it. Looks something quite like a powerranger I guess? or Cyclops from X-Men something interesting like that haha. :alien:

It looks pretty silly but I mean I would be chuffed if I got that playing hahah.

What else are they going to add?

Shoulder pads, chest armor, legg armor, boots, gloves belts hahaha next thing you no its like WoW but an FPS lulz :p

Ugh, I just got through playing. Nearly everybody on my team sucked, and I've gotta vent.

I mean, I'm not that great, but we had engineers setting up sentries in the middle of nowhere and teleporters that sent you all of about 20 yards. I think it's because it's free weekend, but a lot of these things seem like common sense that experience with the game should have no bearing on.

It's an afro. The Soldier has medals as well as his helmet thing, so it could be possible to see other clothing items in future.

And no, they don't do anything, appearance only.

Oh right its an afro?

I saw this guy for a whole two seconds then I was blasted to peices :pinch:

Thats quite cool for the soldier :)

I cant wait till someone on here gets the rest of them, Im curious to no what they are.

hmm fair enough Im quite suprised they dont do anything, I thought it would have been a wave on anti snipers :p

I'm getting quite bored of this "update", if you can even call it that. The grind in an mmo is more fun than the grind to get any of the new items in this game. Hell, mmo grind even yields faster results than this joke of an idea valve added without thinking. I'm starting to think even the half price i payed for this game last year was more than this game is worth.

I'm sure joining an achievement_idle server for 8 hours is boring.

I'm trying a different method, playing the game normally. I get the items but without the boredom!

And that's the way it should be done. I wouldn't be surprised if Valve "punishes" anyone playing in an achievement_idle server. Actually, I think it servers them right. I think it falls under the category of cheating.

Even when playing as i have been doing you'll be bored long before you get what you want. If not getting to try out the new content doesn't bore you, than the long unfixed other issues will likely bore you as well(such as the boredom out of 24/7 stacked teams on every damn pub).

How is it cheating when it's going into a game and doing what valve wants us to do..

Spending time in the game...

Now maybe if they made the system so that if you had to be ACTIVE to get the stuff.... and made it so that it dropped stuff more frequently, there wouldn't be the need for the idle maps..

I think it's cheating in the sense that it's violating an accepted norm. Obviously Valve doesn't want people to join an achievement server. It's the whole reason they made this new system. Unfortunately, it's not working as well as it should and Valve has acknowledged that. I just hope they can get it fixed as soon as possible.

    • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, Flip 8, Z Fold Wide: Everything you need to know The ONLY thing I need to know is the price, which I know will be way higher than I (and most people) are willing to pay for a phone... so basically nothing here I need to know. PS: Nice job getting that Apple reference to a non-existent and unrevealed product as "competition" in there. Cheque is in the mail.
    • Well I really think the repasting helped if your higher clocks have returned, maybe the next thing to look at is if there is a problem with your case airflow? I guess this because your 3080 has returned to optimal state, but is still staying too warm, which might suggest it was thermal throttling before you repasted, of which the only logical conclusion could be outside factors.
    • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, Flip 8, Z Fold Wide: Everything you need to know by Hamid Ganji Galaxy Z Fold 7 - Image via Samsung The next generation of Samsung foldables is set to be unveiled next month at the second Unpacked event of the year. Samsung’s 2026 foldables are not expected to offer significant upgrades over their predecessors, with the Korean firm instead focusing on design refinements and conventional upgrades such as faster processors and better cameras. However, Samsung is reportedly planning to unveil an all-new passport-style foldable this year to rival Apple’s first foldable iPhone, which is expected to debut this September. Here’s a roundup of everything we know about Samsung’s upcoming foldable devices ahead of their official debut. When can we expect Samsung’s new foldables? The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 series were unveiled in July, and Samsung is expected to maintain this timeframe in 2026. Based on previous reports from Korean sources, Samsung will hold its Unpacked event on July 22 in London, UK, to pull back the curtain on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series. The devices are also expected to hit the shelves a few weeks after launch. However, Samsung has yet to announce an official date. A new naming scheme? One of the most interesting changes we might see this year is a new naming scheme for Samsung’s latest foldables. SamMobile reported that since Samsung is expected to unveil three foldables this year, it has adopted a new naming strategy to simplify product identification for customers. Accordingly, the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 will reportedly be called the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and will serve as the direct successor to last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 7. The “Ultra” suffix suggests the phone could feature higher-end specifications, such as additional rear camera modules. Samsung’s new passport-style foldable is expected to carry the Galaxy Z Fold 8 name without any suffix. This model is reportedly equipped with two rear cameras. No major changes are expected for the Flip model. Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Flip 8 anticipated specs Rumors over the past few months suggest Samsung is preparing several upgrades for its upcoming foldables, although the devices may continue to rely on larger batteries and faster charging speeds rather than dramatic design changes. The primary focus this year is expected to be the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and its wide-screen design. Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra official CAD renders - Image via AndroidHeadlines Here are the anticipated specifications for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra based on previous leaks: 6.5-inch outer display and 8-inch inner display, 120Hz refresh rate, and 2,600 nits peak brightness Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, paired with 12GB or 16GB of RAM and 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage 4.1mm thickness when unfolded and a weight of 210g 200MP main camera, 50MP ultrawide camera, 10MP or 12MP telephoto camera, 10MP cover camera, and 10MP selfie camera 5,000mAh battery with 45W wired charging Android 17 and One UI 9 As for the Galaxy Z Flip 8, the device is not expected to be a major departure from its predecessor, although it could become slightly slimmer. Expected specifications include: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 or Exynos 2600 processor 12GB of RAM with 256GB and 512GB storage options 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X inner dispaly and 4.1-inch Super AMOLED outer dispaly 50MP main camera, 12MP ultrawide camera, and 10MP selfie camera 4,300mAh battery with 25W wired charging Android 17 and One UI 9 Samsung’s foldables are also expected to launch with Gemini Intelligence, Google’s AI suite for automating tasks in Android ecosystem. Moreover, given current memory and component costs, some Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Flip 8 variants could see a price hike. Galaxy Z Fold 8 adopts a wide-screen design The centerpiece of the upcoming Unpacked event could be the Galaxy Z Fold 8, previously rumored as the Galaxy Z Fold Wide. This model adopts a passport-style form factor and is expected to compete directly with Apple’s iPhone Fold. Galaxy Z Fold 8 official CAD renders - Image via AndroidHeadlines Here’s what to expect: 7.6-inch primary OLED display and 5.4-inch cover display, 120Hz refresh rate, 2,600 nits peak brightness, and 4:3 aspect ratio Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, 12GB or 16GB of RAM, and 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB storage options 4,800mAh battery with 45W wired charging 50MP main camera, 50MP ultrawide camera, and 10MP selfie camera Android 17 and One UI 9 The three new foldable phones are unlikely to be the only devices unveiled at Samsung’s Unpacked event. The company is also expected to introduce the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 and the Galaxy Watch 9 series.
