The new unlocking system isn't only for the sniper and spy unlockables, I've gotten all three scout unlocks (which I didn't have before), and a dupe of a medic unlock I already had.

Yeah, the issue comes when you have worked on getting all the previous unlocks and all the system does is reward you with duplicates of what you have already achieved. That's the issue and that's why the system should never have been released in its current form.

Did they disable the unlocks for people who were just trying the game over the weekend? I didn't think so, but me and my girlfriend played of about 6 hours each over the weekend and neither of us got a single unlock. It's pretty ****ing annoying when you get killed by more advanced weapons only to pray to the RNG gods that you will get yours soon. I wish they left in the old system. If people needed to go into boosting servers then Valve should have re-evaluated how difficult it was to get certain achievements during normal gameplay not throw out the entire system.

Duplicates are on purpose, it's not a bug.

And the weapons are different, it doesn't mean they're better.

Exactly.

I've been killed just as many times with the normal pyro flameburner, than I have with the level 10 unlockable flameburner.

It's the player, not the weapon.

yeah, but valves excuse for them is retarded "Oh we're going to put a trading system in!" Great. How about getting that ready first before making this major change?

After valve have released the update (and the inevitable fix for it), it'll be 2010 and everyone will have the unlocks and so no one will do any trading except with new people.... who won't have anything to trade.

f1d: The level doesn't necessarily mean anything. They're used differently. The backburner gives all crits when used from behind, but the regular has an air blast. Unlockables are supposed to be equal to what they replace in some way.

That's what I'm trying to say... (I used the level just to distinguish the two, I couldn't remember the name)... you just said it in a much clearer, nicer way :D.

It's the skill of the player... not the weapon :D

It's the skill of the player... not the weapon :D

Not always......put a halfway decent soldier in a large room with a skilled pyro. Give the pyro the backburner and see who usually wins. Now give that same pyro the normal flamethrower (with compression blast) and see who wins. Given the same skill for each player, but different weapon choices, chances are the soldier will win most matches against the backburner, but the pyro will win in most matches against the normal flamethrower.

Skilled soldier will use the shotgun and kill the pyro in about 3 shots

It depends on the size of the room....if its close enough for the pyro to get within flamethrower range and kill the soldier before he is able to get off those 3 shots then the soldier is better off sticking to his rocket launcher. Besides, I'm comparing the situational advantage the normal flamethrower can give a pyro that is completely un-reliant on player skill, only reliant on the weapon they have. For sake of argument lets change that soldier to a demo. The demo will have no problem at all against a backburner pyro, but will have trouble against a skilled normal flamethrower pyro......reflecting both grenades and stickies back at the demo.

Yes the game is highly skill based but the outcome of a battle can rely heavily on the weapon the people are using at that particular time. For example, I run around the corner and see a spun up heavy right infront of the hole one cp_steel, if I were using scattergun chances are I would be dead, if I were using FaN he would be falling down the hole before he has a chance to kill me. Same skill on both players, different weapon loadout gave me more of an advantage due to the FaN than without it. Same thing goes for most of the unlocks.

Maybe someone on here can help me figure this out!

I recently got banned from one server (about 5 mins ago) and disconnected from it, with the reason being given "Multi Hack".

I have absolutely no idea what that is! I'm assuming it is some kind of cheat, otherwise you wouldn't be banned for it.

The problem is... I'm not cheating! I've been playing fine yesterday/this morning/earlier... no files have been downloaded, I don't think it is a virus (I'm fully up to date), it's a steam TF2 download, not touched in any way... what could have caused this?

I read something that it helps you aim or something? The only thing I've done is changed the pointer and made it blue, but that's in the options themselves! You also only have to look at my stats to know I'm not cheating... I'm crap! :p

Now I'm worried if I play on other servers, I'll get banned and it will be the VAC thing... stopping me from playing permanently. As I said, I've downloaded no files, nothing is modified... will it happen again? Should I reinstall?

I know someone on here will be able to help!

I played for a good amount of time this weekend, and I was able to get all the unlocks. They are all great. I also have like double, triple, and quad of other items. There is probably 3 spaces left in my backpack before its filled up. My question is, what happens when my back pack fills up? Do I just have to throw stuff away? It also looks like there might not be enough slots for everyones unlocks and mask together... so does this mean we might have to drop some characters weps just to have others, and then if we want the others, drop some wep to hopefully find the one we want randomly??? i hope that is not the case.....

The system is not bad, and I am sure if they would have had the trading system working on this patch, we wouldnt have half the complaining. I just have more questions for this system that seems to offer a ton of upgrades later on, but not that many slots in the backpack for them all.

Well, if it was a VAC kick/ban, then your account will be locked due to Vac and all...

If it was a admin on the server, which it could have been, who knows.

You have not installed any new skins, ui's, or done any changes in ur .cfg's?

If not, you should be fine to find another server.

Nope, I don't recall! I mean, I played for hours earlier this morning... since then I've been in an exam/watching TV and just popped on before bed - so not touched my computer in that time (neither has anyone else).

The server admin replied to me, apparantly I was running around as a soldier with a sniper rifle! I have absolutely no idea why, or how! I didn't even know you could swap weapons!

HA!!! Thats great man, ya , you got nothing to worry about. It is just a glitch with the game right now. It is causing some things to appear not as they are. Spies are appearing to be ubered, other people are completly invisible except for their shadow and bullets, or they have no hands or gun at all lol. So ya, dont worry, just an admin who doesnt know about the glitches.

If you are looking for a good server, add me to friends list. Search in steam for the name [dc]shakey I will have a avatar of Gir riding a pig from invader zim, so you know you picked the right one. I am admin on a server where you wont run into anything like that.

I think the unlocks should be based on how well you do. I usually play scout and hardly ever get below a 3:1 k/d ratio on most maps, but i still have gotten hardly any weapons, etc. I feel like there is no benefit to actually trying to play well, when I could just start up a server and be the worst player / idle and get just as many unlocks.

Yes the game is highly skill based

What are you talking about? This is probably one of the least skilled fps games there is...well compared to Quake, UT, Warsow or any of those games. TF2 is more about just knowing what to do.

Well I had to 'play' for 65 hours before I got the 1 weapon I wanted which was the huntsman, the other weapon I wanted is useless and is known as the ambassador, you might as well just use the normal spy revolver...

Anyway, back to talk about achievement_idle, the only reason those servers are put onto that map is to save resources so you can get on with other things while running TF2, the map doesn't do anything else but that (It is very small and many people just stay in spectator anyway). It is not like the achievement farming servers where it actually made it easier to unlock things.

If the map wasn't allowed people would just make these idling servers with normal maps (they would pick a small one) and make it so the timelimit was off and points couldn't be capped, e.g having an idling server, and they could just rename it to a 'Deathmatch mod' where people just kill each other. That would be a valid game form and there would just be people spectating to watch the kills, who cares if they are 'watching' (sleeping) all night while doing that.

Using the achievement_idle servers is just like any other way of unlocking the weapons, so its all fair. (Alternatively the achievement servers made it easier to unlock the weapons, making it unfair on people who didn't use them, but who cares, they had the choice).

What are you talking about? This is probably one of the least skilled fps games there is...well compared to Quake, UT, Warsow or any of those games. TF2 is more about just knowing what to do.

I disagree. Knowing what to do is one thing, being good at it is another. I remember when I started I used Soldier, which was a no brainer class. Then I had to train up to be good at other classes, and I still never use Scout because I never really know how to get good points for it.

    • You pay just $100 per TB with this rare 4TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD deal by Sayan Sen SSDs and GPUs are incredibly hard to get nowadays due to high pricing. Discounts are quite rare which is why we report on them as soon as we spot a good deal. For example AMD's new 9070 GRE was finally up for sale at a very good price of just $500 thanks to a special coupon. Sadly that deal is gone but if you happen to be looking for a 4TB NVMe SSD and can spend around $400 there is a really good offer on sale that you should not miss out on as TeamGroup's 4TB G50 model is on sale for that that price which means you are only paying $100 per TB, a very good deal in the current market (purchase link under the specs table down below). The TeamGroup T-FORCE G50 NVMe SSD is a PCIe Gen4 drive and as such it promises to deliver sequential read speeds of up to 5,000 MB/s, helping accelerate game loading, file transfers, and everyday computing tasks. • I agree. I also think Phil stayed too long. They should definitely fire whoever thought all a console platform needed was Call of Duty, Elder Scrolls, and Fallout to survive. Asha and crew are still saying they need more Elder Scrolls and Fallout games. They simply don't get it.

    • Mozilla highlights Firefox Nova 2026 redesign and more upcoming features with new roadmap by Sayan Sen Last month Mozilla confirmed that Firefox was set to get a major redesign this year. Dubbed "Project Nova", it can already be tested and will roll out to all users later this year. The idea is to keep the browser competitive in a rapidly evolving internet landscape. As such the revamp focuses on improving privacy, usability, performance, accessibility, and customization. Key privacy features including the built-in VPN, private browsing mode, and Enhanced Tracking Protection, will be more visible and easier to manage, while users will have the option to disable AI features entirely through a dedicated kill switch. Additionally, the redesign promises faster page loading, the return of Compact mode, expanded personalization options, and stronger accessibility support. You can find the full details in the dedicated piece linked above. In a new blog post today the company once again reiterated on Nova and also emphasized other new and upcoming features like the settings revamp that is intended to make it easier for users to understand browser settings. In order to make it simpler for users to keep up with such features Mozilla today is launching Firefox roadmap. Hence enthusiasts and interested users will be able to check out what's cooking and also share feedback about the upcoming additions. Alongside the roadmap announcement, Mozilla also highlighted what's new in Firefox 152. One of the biggest additions is the arrival of Tab Groups on Android. The feature, which has already been helping desktop users organize large numbers of tabs, is now beginning to roll out on mobile. Users will be able to group related tabs together, assign names and colors to them, and return to them later. Mozilla says support for iOS will arrive later this year. Firefox 152 also introduces the aforementioned redesigned Settings experience. The company says the changes are meant to make controls easier to find and help users discover features they may not have previously known about. Existing preferences are not changing, though they are now better organized. Another notable addition is the new Blocked Tracker Widget, which provides a visual overview of Firefox's privacy protections by showing how many trackers have been blocked over time and the types of tracking activity the browser has stopped. Looking ahead, Mozilla revealed several upcoming roadmap features. They include customizable keyboard shortcuts, as well as enhanced PDF editing tools that will allow documents to be split, merged, and reorganized directly within Firefox. The company is also working on bringing Multi-Account Containers into the native Firefox experience thus removing the need for a separate extension. Meanwhile Firefox's built-in VPN is set to expand to mobile devices. Mozilla is also developing AI-powered features like Quick Answers, which can provide concise responses to voice queries, and Smart Window, its optional AI browsing experience that is now available without a waitlist. Finally, a new Power Saving Mode is in the works and will help reduce the impact of resource-heavy tabs on mobile devices in order to extend battery life. The video below summarizes the upcoming changes in an easy to understand format: You can find the announcement blog post here on Mozilla's official website.
