New update today, they added in sniper/spy milestones so those of us NOT getting the new unlocks can at least get them to play around with them if we want.

Still no fix for the Kritz sound loop. I keep sending that report every time I play before I exit. I even supplied my email address hoping they will tell me to shut the hell up we heard you... Well, Off to play again, and submit another report.

UT3 is by far the worst in the ut series(even big ut fans like me completely hate it). So of course TF2 is more fun, even with the broken updates(ex. spy vs sniper) and the bugs.

Well it's the first UT version I've ever played, let alone on the PC which I'm fairly new to (aside from playing my big brother's PC games when I was much younger). Maybe I'm judging too harshly too quickly, as well; as a graphic designer, I hate the overall design which is, of course, the first thing you notice. I'll try it again this weekend, but so far it seems too repetitious, even for a multiplayer FPS. I played two games last night, both on the same map with the same gametype, and the first game went okay while the second game was basically just stepping out from behind the base to get sniped constantly.

TF2 is much better looking, and certainly different enough from most FPS games to not get old (though FPS are almost all I play/enjoy). I haven't noticed the bugs, aside from an insignificant bug that probably has more to do with Steam than TF2 anyways. Maybe I'll have something to complain about later, but right now I just enjoy it.

Yay, valve came to their senses. Now i'll actually be able to try the new content after a short farming session instead of weeks of grind.

What on earth? The Source engine has to be the best optimized engine I've ever played on. I have no clue what you're talking about.

Source may run well in the horribly overrated Half-life 2 and probly even in the newer L4D, but it sure doesn't in TF2. The version of the source engine used in tf2 has been so mangled and beaten down in terms of performance by the tf2 team that it's not even funny. And it's not just me, oh no. Just browse around the steam forums, you'll see posts from people with systems ranging from old to new seeing pathetic performance in this game in any situation outside of empty rooms. Performance far below even more detailed titles. Maybe you just don't notice the change between 60fps and 20.

Tf2 mostly looks better cause it has color, whereas UT3 is mostly done in "the dirt spectrum"(aka grey and brown). And while it may be different i kinda disagree with it not getting old. The less than stellar number of good maps and other gametypes will keep it form having the long life of some other games. But it is entertaining while new or when bored.

I only played for about 4 hours total since the update and I already got all the new spy unlocks, Jarate, the sniper shield thing and a couple of other items (Although I already had those). To say it is weeks of grind just isn't representative of my experience.

It was pretty funny to see all the people getting unlocks right after the update.

I ended up getting the first Sniper milestone, so now I have 3 Huntsman (which is funny because that was the weapon I wanted the most, and the one I had to wait longest for to first unlock)

ugh update gave me nothing I didn't already have and as soon as I joined a server I got another FAN......and then I thought I was on XBL. I just made some remark about getting like my fourth FAN and this guy basicly tries to talk down to me about complaining and acts pretty much like a dick. It was nothing more then what anyone else said over the past week and kind of took me by suprise as so far on that server everyone has been pretty good.

UT3 is a really bad example of the UT series, I am not the biggest fan of the series anyway, but UT3 is just clunky and slow compared to U2k4 (Unreal Tournament 2004). The graphics might be pretty but they seem to have dumbed down the gameplay so much that now it's just very generic.

At last, I got the jar of **** and the huntsman. Huntsman's surprisingly easy to use to the point where snipers run into the battle lines tossing **** at enemies and plucking off pyros that attempt to rush them. Such as myself. :p Of course when it was my turn to be the sniper, I dominated a poor pyro for a few minutes with the huntsman. :happy:

The order I started playing the Unreal Tournament series was like this:

UT2003 > UT2004 > UT2004 + UT99 > UT2004 + UT3 > UT3

I never got into UT99 that much. Despite UT2003 being a stopgap release I'm still fond of it. Good old days of playing the demo maps :laugh:

Incorrect, I played UT3 during the free steam weekend, then I tried out U2K4 and 2k3, I had never played the UT series before that. Thats why I'm saying I'm not a massive fan. So it was nothing about it not living up to my expectations, because I didn't have any, it's just not a good game for the genre that it's in.

No, I didn't. I'm not even sure if that's possible in Team Fortress 2. At the moment, the inconsistency affects anyone that uses the Huntsman. There were (and are) a lot of threads about this on the Steam forums. I'm surprised that people here seem to not care about it. I feel as if I'm making a big deal out of nothing. :ermm:

You know now that I look at it, I wonder if the reason it is like that is, because it would be in the way.. The Arrow that is, it would block your line of sight?

I mean look at the 3rd person view, you can clearly see his arm and arrow are in front of his face, where as with the 1st person view, they are out of the way so you can see..

I bet that's why they did it, so it wouldn't block your view.

Had awesome luck in the way unlocks were given with achievements......I already had the Dead Ringer and the Razorback, which were both milestone 3 for spy and sniper......I only had to get 11 achievements (milestone 3) to have all the new unlocks. <3 cloak and dagger.....sure it takes longer to get places but I love being able to stay out of sight for as long as I want (I played a LOT of rogue when I played WoW on private servers).

I love/use all kinds of color schemes, including darker, muddier colors like the colors used in this. For me, it's the chunky font, the huge, chunky buttons, the texture of the menu, the layout--it all just seems big, bulky, busy and outdated. The rollovers don't even work entirely correctly. It looks as if the designer looked at pre-2002 computer games and just styled it after those instead of coming up with something new, clean, fresh, and updated like TF2.

I still stand by my opinion of the game not getting old--not compared to UT3 which got old after the second game, for me. I'm not new to TF2, I've been playing the xbox version since it came out. I am new to the PC version which as I said is very different, but still the same game. Still hasn't gotten old for me. At least I'm not spawning in the exact same place with the exact same weapons only to poke my head out to get inside of my own building and get sniped. It's fun, and a fresh switchover from your typical FPS games. I can see where the novelty would wear off for some, though.

The graphics are not so pretty, but I reckon that's just my opinion. It does seem clunky and slow, though I have nothing to compare it to. You're absolutely right about it being generic--those are the very words I was looking for.

I'm going to give it another chance this weekend, though. Maybe I'll end up liking it. It's also on sale right now, so who knows?

Then what part of what I said was incorrect? I said what each user of the past games have said. UT3 is slower. You can thank the PS3 for that due to it being ported from Console to PC.

That's what I thought at first, but then I realized it wouldn't make a difference in the amount of space that it takes up on the screen. The line of symmetry [for the weapon model] is directly in the middle of the screen. Flipping it over that line would merely make the Huntsman take up space on the right side of the screen rather than the left. If anything, it'll make you focus more on the left side which is what the other weapons due (to different degrees). However, it doesn't make a difference for most players.

Also, the character model (in 3rd person view) should only be used to distinguish between left and right handed weapon models. In Team Fortress 2, all of the characters are the same height (camera-wise) despite the obvious height differences between the classes. In other words, the player's "eye height" is the same throughout all the classes. For example, the mini-gun is below the Heavy's waist whereas the rocket launcher is above the Soldier's shoulder.

Got all my unlockables now with Sniper and Spy which was quite suprising.

I went away for the weekend came home and noticed that steam had done an update for TF2 not knowing what it was about. Then I was playing Pyro and died and its like BOOOM!! Sniper milestone 1, 2, 3 Achieved Spy Milestone 1, 2, 3 achieved.

I thought that the game had bugged out on me or something :rofl:

But then I found out that they had put in the 'Milestones' Very sneeky :shiftyninja:

    • A difficult position to be in. Either they cater to us users or they cater to news curators to potentially increase traffic. Personally, I wasn't being sarcastic. Hosting a website isn't free, so without traffic this site stops existing, and if you want traffic you have to play the game. I legitimately thought the title was good. Not because I like it, but because it's the kind of title people will click on. This site needs that.
