Soldiers UNITE!

Also, it appears both classes ARE being updated, notice the "Weapons 1 | 2 | 3 | ?" at the top of each page?

Both classes will be getting their 3 unlocks (like every other class during a class update) but only one of them will be getting the mysterious weapon.

Its going to turn the game into Team Deathmatch, everyone is going to be Demo or Soldier after update.

That happens after every class update though. Everyone plays the class that gets updated for awhile then it goes back to whatever it was before.

So: how is the War update different from our other class updates?

In many ways, it's not. Like any other class update, the War update will reveal three new weapons each for the Demoman and Soldier throughout the week, as well as some maps, achievements, and surprises, right up until the day of release, when everything we've been teasing goes live.

Where the War update differs from other class updates is that we've decided to mix things up a little with, as the Administrator would say, "a healthy competition." A secret, exclusive seventh weapon has also been developed by the TF2 team. In other words, either the Soldier or the Demo (but NOT both) is walking out of this update with one more weapon than the other. If you want your class to have it, you're going to have to fight for it. The more Demomen you kill as the Soldier class will help ensure the Soldier gets the weapon at the end of the week. The more Soldiers you kill as the Demo will help the Demo class get the exclusive seventh weapon. Check back daily to see how your class is doing at the War hubpage ? this is also where you'll see links to all the leaked previews of the weapons, maps, and surprises releasing soon with this update.

What if some of you try to cheat to bump the numbers? We'll know. (Though we also know many of you won't be able to resist trying anyway.)

Alright, enough talk. Who'd you rather see get this exclusive new weapon? The Demoman? Or the Soldier? The War starts right now, so get out there and vote with your kills!

Demoman Update

OMG! I can't wait!! I wonder what the extra weapon will be?

Everyone should kill as many soldiers as possible so that demoman gets the additional weapon!

Can someone write a script like those in the youtube vids so that ai demoman blow up ai soldiers over and over again?

Valve has stated that they will know if someone decides to "cheat". I am sure people will do this for both sides, so we will see how it ends up.

Also, soldier deserves the 4th weapon more than the demo, death to all demos!

As for the war goes, demos have a distinct advantage. They can kill people without even looking at them, therefore chances are they will win unless Valve does something to balance this out (TF2 is not about 1v1, but this whole war thing is, and the demo IMO has an advantage over a soldier in 1v1).

EDIT: That being said, I have decided to take this WAR time to attempt to improve my skill as Demo. As sucky as I am right now, I get killed by the 5+ soldiers on the enemy team in seconds, while attempting to get better.

Just added about 21 (+/- 1) demomen kills to the war contribution, after about a little over one round. :D

... except I probably killed more than two times more soldiers than demomen, as a soldier. Pesky demomen are either hiding inside the 2fort base or spamming the area outside the battlements.

The update being released next Thursday is perfect timing. Right on the day of my last exam. :D

It's going to be a fun, fun day to be a spy.

I saw you a couple of times changing disguises right after you hopped off the battlements. Easy picking. :p

    • Yeah, this is absolutely nothing new and EA have done it before. Burnout Paradise, released in 2008, had dynamic advertising billboards that were updated via the internet and targeted people based on location and what EA knew about them from their profile. It was particularly notable for the fact that the Obama presidential campaign ran ads in the game, in an attempt to reach a younger audience who didn't watch broadcast TV any more. It was by no means the first though. Battlefield 2142 from 2006 had the same thing. In fact, Neowin wrote a story about it back then. https://www.neowin.net/news/ba...-in-game-ads-clarification/
    • This is obviously aimed at the education where Apple has lost so much ground to Chromebooks in the last few years, but unless they come up with a comparable management system for education why would anyone switch back?
    • Here's how we arrived at that claim: Note that this is just Play Store downloads. The app is also available on the Galaxy App Store
    • Google Play states the app had more than 50 million downloads. What other metric do you suggest should be used?
    • MSN defined our generation in some ways, kind of like Snapchat and TikTok have done for future generations. I have great memories of the MSN era in the late 90s / early 2000s. In the UK everyone seemed to come home from School and go on MSN for the evening. We didn't really have mobile phones then, so other than going and knocking on your friends door it was a totally new way of interacting with people. I also loved how I could talk to people I’d met playing online games from around the world. Inviting people to NetMeeting and messing about with the shared white board and webcams was pretty fun, even if webcams only ran at a couple of fps over dial-up. All the random things you could do with MsgPlus! were really fun - I suspect that made a few people jump with /shello randomly blasting Mr Hankey out their speakers! Maybe I’m just nostalgic, however I do feel the internet and computers were more fun back then.
