Fun game, bought it. I go by Donald Duck and I seem to be doing the best as a medic so far.

Medic is a great starter class, even if you are not doing great you are still a benefit to your team through healing/ubering them, and it also helps you learn the game when your just starting while remaining to be a benefit.

Yea I really had no clue what was going on those first couple of games, but I'm starting to get the hang of the different maps/objectives now, so I'm starting to play as other characters. Apparently you can pick up items/weapons and such and they get saved? No idea about that yet.

You will get new weapons with the random drop system. You will also get weapon when you reach milestone for achievements. On the main menu, you will see a link the change what you are wearing.

So is valve working on fixing the items from achievements yet? I want my Direct hit.

+1, for that resolution the correct aspect ratio is 16x9.

I honestly do not know why Valve didn't just make 1 long resolution list showing all resolutions your monitor supports. Would have made it a bit easier to change between different aspect ratios and resolutions.

Actually, for 1440x900 it'd be 16:10.

So I played for about an hour, hoping to find a couple of items. I check my character setup and notice a message that says "The server you are playing in has lost connection to Steam." Great, just great. :/

Valve did release an update last night:

Updates to Team Fortress 2 have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:

Team Fortress 2

  • Fixed a client crash related to arrows
  • Fixed a server crash related to items
  • Fixed a server crash caused by the Demo taunt kill
  • Fixed a server crash caused by using the Equalizer
  • Fixed client ragdoll commands resulting in ragdolls standing around
  • Restored the missing point_teleport entity
  • Fixed stats and achievements being tracked while using sv_cheats
  • Fixed Spies being able to build dispensers
  • Fixed clients not fixing up inventory items in bad backpack positions
  • Added a new chat message when players craft an item
  • Fixed "Bloody Merry" and "Second Eye" achievements being achieved incorrectly
  • Updated the description of the "Bravehurt" achievement
  • Fixed Blutsauger attributes
  • Fixed the Direct Hit having an incorrect short range damage curve (now matches the normal Rocket Launcher curve)
  • Fixed the Spy's unlockables watches using the wrong consume/recharge rates

Valve did release an update last night:

That update did nothing for the missing weapons at milestones issue. And since they did nothing else later on in the day that means they likely wont fix it till monday. Which furthermore means there's absolutely no reason to even start up the game till then(cause chances are i'll be playing DNF before the random drop system doesn't suck). Sigh.. such a sloppy class update.

Just me or is anyone else prefer the game back when their was just a few class updates - back when it was just Medic and Pyro? It seems these days too many people are playing just for the achievements and not like they used to

I think that's always the case when a new update comes out. The classes that have been updated get used and abused for a bit and then things settle down again. It's a bit more annoying for me because normally soldier is my main class, but yesterday it took a bit to actually go it due to class limits. Also remember there is a free weekend now so there will be quite a lot of players who have no idea what is going on.

Yeah it is annoying as heck, soldier is one of my main classes too, and while the server I play doesn't have class limits it gets annoying when theres 5 other soldiers on your team already. Cant wait for the "new weapon flurry" to die down a bit and theres only 3-4 soldiers (max) on each team with like 2-3 demos max.

    • Can you read? I've said I'm willing to pay more for a notchless (no notch) 3:2 screen.
    • Not even an OLED display on the laptops. Also it seems that the laptop design isn't the same as the Surface Ultra model. Looks like bargain bin at high prices.
    • make your own notch - it's not that hard
    • VirtualBox 7.2.10 by Razvan Serea VirtualBox is a powerful x86 and AMD64/Intel64 virtualization product for enterprise as well as home use. Targeted at server, desktop and embedded use, it is now the only professional-quality virtualization solution that is also Open Source Software. Presently, VirtualBox runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, and Solaris hosts and supports a large number of guest operating systems including but not limited to Windows (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, 7, 8, Windows 10 and Windows 11), DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4, 2.6, 3.x, 4.x, 5.x and 6.x), Solaris and OpenSolaris, OS/2, OpenBSD, NetBSD and FreeBSD. Some of the features of VirtualBox are: Modularity. VirtualBox has an extremely modular design with well-defined internal programming interfaces and a client/server design. This makes it easy to control it from several interfaces at once: for example, you can start a virtual machine in a typical virtual machine GUI and then control that machine from the command line, or possibly remotely. VirtualBox also comes with a full Software Development Kit: even though it is Open Source Software, you don't have to hack the source to write a new interface for VirtualBox. Virtual machine descriptions in XML. The configuration settings of virtual machines are stored entirely in XML and are independent of the local machines. Virtual machine definitions can therefore easily be ported to other computers.
