Ok sad news here guys. I had 186 points in a match that had only been going for 32 minutes and accidentally ALT+TAB'ed out of the game! Anytime I do that, the game freezes and I'm screwed. My questions are as follows:

  1. Does any of what I did count towards anything?
  2. Do my achievements still get counted?
  3. Is there anyway to lock any keys that might take you out of the game (windows key, alt+tab, etc)?
  4. How do I take screenshots?

I think your achievements will still get counted unless it was a teleporter record or something.

Depending on your keyboard, the software can sometimes disable certain keys. For example the Logitech software can disable the windows key to prevent it kicking you out of full screen. As another workaround you could run TF2 in windowed mode. I'm thinking about switching mine to that too as now that Valve have made some ALT+TAB 'fixes', if I TAB out, I can't TAB back into TF2. Annoying to say the least!

For screenshots, bind 'jpeg' to a key of your choosing. I.e

bind "f12" "jpeg"

The screenshots are placed in your tf folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\USERNAME\team fortress 2\tf)

Edit: Just found this. And the example the guy uses is even got TF2.

1. Probably yes

2. Yes, there are counted each time you die or on any event they are triggered.

3. The best way is the run TF2 in windowed mode. You lose some fps but it doesn't crash or lag when you alt-tab.

In the properties of TF2, add this: -novid -windowed -noborder (novid removes the useless video when you start the game)

4. Press F5 and there are stored in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\<Steam Username>\team fortress 2\tf\screenshots

So guys, I was planning on buying this game next weekend. Currently I'm playing World of Warcraft but before playing WoW I used to play Quake 3 a lot. I've been looking for a FPS for a long time and apparently TF2 is quite popular right now. Could this be a right choice for me?

I got it done a few minutes ago, had to pause several times but at the end I was getting 600kb/s (nice speed, going to download alien swarm too).

I can't play right now because I am not at home and I'm using my laptop which I suppose won't be able to handle the game. Just a question, how does the backup tool works? I was thinking in using it to backup the TF2 files and then copy them to my home computer, would that work?

Backup will make a files with steam.exe, its like ISO (if mac, i think its will make a .dmg)

Its will ask you where to put, CD? DVD? Hard-drive?

Yes will work :)

I just started playing TF2 even thou ive owned it for 2 years? now lol.

But I am loving it SO much once you get into it, one thing I dont understand, I was getting random FPS lag.

my system is MORE then capable. I went ahead and updated drivers, uninstalled game COMPLETELY. Deleted folder and everything after uninstalling it thru steam(delete local content). Once I did this, re downloaded all of TF2 agian.

Today, I was playing fine for an hour, and all of a sudden FPS lag. It goes from smooth to lag smooth lag lag lag smooth lag.

So like it'll say "DOMINAT.....ing" or "Swooo.......ssssh" when I die and camera zooms in or etc. But regardless it does "Hiccups".

I got tired of it, minimized and everything looked fine, Game is only using a gig at most and 28% cpu.

I then decided to Set Affinity to only 2 cores, and the first 2 cores at that, THE LAG STOPPED.

Played another 2 hours WITHOUT LAG.

So wtf can be the issue?

System Specs

AMD Phenom 2 x4 940 BE

8gigs Corsair XMS2 RAM

Nvidia 260gtx 216 GPU

Everything is fine and NO OTHER GAMES LAG, ive been playing BC2 a LOT and GTA 4 a lot recently and nothing> no spikes no nothing.

Get into TF2, first 2 days were fine, then everyday random lag, that does not stop. And I end up leaving or quitting the game. But If i leave the game and reioin, the lag goes away, but randomly will come back later.

Happens randomly on all different servers ive tried. I went server hopping and only happened totally at random.

Couple of suggestions you can try:

- Try downloading this file.

steamapps.zip

Quit Steam, extract the file's contents to Steam\steamapps and run Defrag.bat. This defrags all the GCFs in the steamapps folder. (Then run a system defragger of your choice.)

- Follow the instructions in this thread. This will disable network throttling. Also ensure QoS/WMM is disabled in your router.

- Try some of these commands to put into autoexec.cfg. They're for HL2 but they may work for TF2. In particular, the 'forcepreload' and the sound-related tweaks are ones you should look at.

- This should not be an issue, but you could try excluding the Steam folder from your antivirus if all else fails.

Disabling multicore isn't really an option for me; the FPS counter tanks if I do that.

I was about to post asking if anyone else is suffering from missing weapons / metal / hats, but I see lots of others are experiencing it too. I've 'found' them again as drops twice now but then they disappear again. As long as they don't disappear for good I don't mind too much :p

Someone emailed Robin about that and he said they were messing around with the backend. He said they are also working on an update that will prevent things such as that from happening again the next time they decide to poke the backend with sticks.

    • Not even an OLED display on the laptops. Also it seems that the laptop design isn't the same as the Surface Ultra model. Looks like bargain bin at high prices.
    • VirtualBox 7.2.10 by Razvan Serea VirtualBox is a powerful x86 and AMD64/Intel64 virtualization product for enterprise as well as home use. Targeted at server, desktop and embedded use, it is now the only professional-quality virtualization solution that is also Open Source Software. Presently, VirtualBox runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, and Solaris hosts and supports a large number of guest operating systems including but not limited to Windows (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, 7, 8, Windows 10 and Windows 11), DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4, 2.6, 3.x, 4.x, 5.x and 6.x), Solaris and OpenSolaris, OS/2, OpenBSD, NetBSD and FreeBSD. Some of the features of VirtualBox are: Modularity. VirtualBox has an extremely modular design with well-defined internal programming interfaces and a client/server design. This makes it easy to control it from several interfaces at once: for example, you can start a virtual machine in a typical virtual machine GUI and then control that machine from the command line, or possibly remotely. VirtualBox also comes with a full Software Development Kit: even though it is Open Source Software, you don't have to hack the source to write a new interface for VirtualBox. Virtual machine descriptions in XML. The configuration settings of virtual machines are stored entirely in XML and are independent of the local machines. Virtual machine definitions can therefore easily be ported to other computers. • OK, now ask yourself how are they going to enforce that law? By requiring every single adult to prove their age and provide their legal identity documents to an UNREGULATED 3rd party company that already has a long track record of multiple data breaches. Not to mention, parliament have voted AGAINST this ban, twice, and Starmer is going ahead anyway. So, where's the democracy here, because that looks like dictatorship to me. The solution here is parental responsibility, not government control. Run some public service announcements on TV and UK social media teaching parents how to setup parental controls. That's already been proven to actually work. But the, this is not and has NEVER been about keeping kids safe. It's about control and monitoring. Watching what you're doing online and controlling what you can see and what you can say.
    • Interesting read. I knew the adware was quite controversial at the time, however never realised to the point The Guardian wrote an article about Patchou. I just said no and enjoyed his creation, I’d probably be a lot more wary of something like that today though.
