I am looking for some tips on TF2 on pyro, as I am only able to get on average 7-8 kills (not points) using the pyro, with the loadout: Backburner, Detonator, and Powerjack.

Since you guys are pro players, what are your tips for the pyro.

Thanks :)

For a start, the backburner is one of the worst unlocks for the Pyro; you'll want to go ahead and swap that out for a Degreaser.

Secondly, you'll want to swap the Detonator for the Shotgun and Powerjack for the Axtinguisher; use those two in combination with the degreaser's fastswitch to perform puff'n'sting type attacks.

Go in -> Ignite -> Airblast -> Finish with Shotgun or Axtinguisher.

As a general rule of thumb, the Shotgun is one of the best weapons in the game if used properly. Few unlockables are superior to it.

Seven to eight kills per life on average is good. Or do you mean per round?

Tips:

- Don't forget about the airblast. Knock people off the CP (especially if it's on a cliff, or something like that), knock ubered medics away from their companion, airblast your teammates that are on fire. Remember the Backburner has a pretty big airblast cost, though.

- Like any class, don't be afraid to run away. But don't turn your back to your enemy. Learn the maps so you can always fight anyone chasing you away. Always turn around every once and a while, though.

- Spy check often. For some reason spies always think they're never going to get caught, so a lot of times they'll even try to (stupidly) backstab a Pyro.

- Avoid wide open spaces. The Pyro is mainly a close-range class, so try to hug the walls and stay out of your enemy's line of sight. It may take you longer to get places sometimes, but the Pyro is one of the quickest classes.

- You have the Backburner so you know this, but always go from behind. You don't want to get pumped full of bullets, so take the route that's going to not get you shot.

- Whatever you do, don't just stupidly charge straight at your enemy unless you're right by them. They'll just run backwards, and that makes you a pretty easy target.

Also: As Athernar said, the Degreaser and Axtinguisher are two of the better unlocks you can get. They work really well together. I mess around with the Flare Gun and Detonator sometimes, but the Shotgun is definitely a safer bet. Especially against enemy Pyros.

I have heard of the puff n sting strategy, but i do not have enough things to craft a degreaser and a Axtinguisher (I had an axtinguinsher from unlocks but used it up in crafting) I will try to get those as soon as I have enough crafting things, do you have any other tips that could help me make more use of my current loadout.

Also I use the detonator ALOT on choke points and sniper balconies (there are at least 5 snipers up there) on 2Fort to protect the heavy/medic/soldier push when we try to cap the intel.

Thanks for tips, I always jump in from behind. Also those kills are per life. I must then try out degreaser + shotgun +axe.

As to the last tip, I NEVER ever W+M1 as I know I will get killed by pretty much every class.

I'll be playing some TF2 now then.

Finally an ability to trade without opening TF2

How is that a good thing!?!? You should be required to open TF2 to trade TF2 stuff plain and simple!! This takes more of you away from the game itself ...think about it. If you are in game in a trade server trading you are also counting hours and perhaps getting item drops its a win/win situation.

I can give you a Degreaser if you want, my inventory is a mess and full of dupes I frankly can't be bothered to spend the time crafting.

No. Just, no.

About the pyro:

Backburners could work if you plan to camp cramped corridors and sneak up behind people, or if you plan to do a last-second attempt to get people off the cart in Payload (from behind, obviously). These days, given the degreaser and the change to the flare gun, you're probably better off picking someone off with a degreaser + axtinguisher combo than the backburner alone. The original flamethrower is not worth it as people can douse themselves out easily compared to the original 2007-era TF2, so reduced afterburn damage is no big deal unless their health was very low to begin with.

The degreaser + axtinguisher (or the mailbox) + shotgun works, but you can sub the shotgun for the Flare gun if you have good aim. That way, if someone (other than enemy pyros) tries to flee and you can't hit them with the axtinguisher, you can still him them with flares and get crits. Detonator isn't that useful in my opinion even though it can set a group of people on fire - well, it's useful for distracting snipers from a distance, but that's about it.

Thanks for all the tips guys :) I actually needed them. Now just need an degreaser and an axetinguisher. @Athernar add me on steam for the degreaser. Steam ID: MetallicToast (if that does not work, try 'rohanrao') thanks :))

I'm ingame right now, if you go to trade and select the "Steam Profile" button and send a request to "athernar"; I can send it on over.

Does anyone know if there's a way to automatically skip the server message (and map rotation list)? For some reason it's causing my client to crash on some servers (especially ones with a website inlay, like Valve's servers).

In advanced options (or multiplayer options, I forget which), there's a setting for "Disable HTML MOTDs". Try ticking that option and see if it helps.

Thanks, unfortunately it didn't help. It's gotta be something with my graphics card. When I cranked up the settings to very high textures it started doing it (even though I still average ~60 FPS, even with 4 x AA, 8 x AS). Oh well, guess I'll just have to wait for a new graphics card before I can use very high.

Getting back into this. Been playing a mod called PropHunt a lot. It's absolutely hilarious to play with friends  And when I'm not ****ing my self laughing playing PropHunt I'm playing vanilla TF2 mostly as medic. I get the feeling that all classes are easy to play, hard to master. Which I like. I make a damn good medic though :D

There are a variety of fun minigames, including (but not only) Saxton Hale, Dodgeball, TF2ware, and surfing. I basically only play minigames in TF2 now.

If you want, you can add me by clicking my signature. I'd recommend some servers here, but considering most of them are part of my clan's, it would seem like advertising.

If you guys want a nice non-serious fun server to play on, with just mods on it, try this: 63.251.20.54:27015

(probably the one Reacon is on)

Nope. I'm an official member of intox Gaming, which is why it would feel like advertising were I to post the IPs here.

Slag does have a few privately developed gamemodes that give their servers an edge, but we recently have hired some scripters as well. I like to think that our Saxton Hale is the best in TF2 - and the activity of it speaks for itself.

You know, I liked the Deus Ex weapons when they were revealed... but man, is Valve getting further and further away from the art style of Team Fortress 2. It's getting quite annoying. I realize it has no impact on the gameplay, but it's like they're just throwing it all out the window now. They're not even following their own art guidelines that they have as submission tips for contributing developers.

For those that don't pay close attention to the TF2 community, couple of interesting notes outside of the immediate update changelog and blogpost:

  • New crates and Unusual effects have popped up.
  • There seems to be bits of a new item Quality left in this update, known as "Complete". Probably related to Strange items.
  • You can now have Strange items that aren't kill based.
  • The various competitive medals finally have proper icons and names.

I personally think that overall, TF2 is approaching it's "Jumping the Shark" moment.

Original game as released: :bounce:

Class updates:

Hats:

Trading: :/

Crates: :(

So. Many. Weapons:

I think it's all getting a bit ridiculous now. I mean sure, let us have new weapons, but come on, ray gun bazookas? Really? They're constantly changing the balance of the game, and while I'm perfectly fine with the occasional adjustment, it gets somewhat irritating having the game constantly changing on a monthly basis. I still like playing TF2, but its certainly not the slender, attractive game that I fell in love with.

I love the idea of having weapons, item drops, crafting, and hats. The problem is that probably half of the weapons are worthless, and a good amount of the weapons and hats don't fit with the 1950's setting and graphical style. The ones that fit, though, are beautiful alternates to the stock stuff -- like the Medic's entire Clinical Trial set, and the Heavy's Mob Enforcer (forgot the actual name) set, etc. But some of this newer stuff, like the Cowmangler and Deus Ex stuff is just out there. It doesn't fit with anything.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the new Unusual effects. I mean, I'll probably never get one, but still. Glad they made some changes to the Strange quality for the Mediguns and Jarate.

Yeah tonight may just have been my last time playing TF2 for the very reason the weapons are too numerous and too effing stupid and what makes me even more angry is there isn't a single person playing Renegade X.

The weapons aren't really all that numerous when you think about it, most are minor stats variances and don't hold up to the default loadouts.

So with the exception of stuff like the Equalizer for example, most people rolling non-standard loadouts are just kill-fodder.

So with the exception of stuff like the Equalizer for example, most people rolling non-standard loadouts are just kill-fodder.

I don't know that I'd go that far. Most of my loadouts aren't standard. Just from memory (the weapons with statistical differences):

- Scout -- Special Delivery set

- Medic -- Quick-Fix set

- Pyro -- Degreaser, Axtinguisher

- Heavy -- Tomislav, Killing Gloves of Running Urgently, Family Business

- Demo -- Scottish Resistance

- Spy -- Dead Ringer

- Engineer -- Frontier Justice, Gunslinger

- Soldier -- Black Box, Reserve Shooter, Equalizer/Disciplinary Action

Some of those are just minor changes, but some are pretty big (Gunslinger, Special Delivery, Black Box).

    • Started implementing weapons! Here's a little sneak peek! 👀 Animation was done inside of Unreal Engine using Control Rig! Really useful tool, I don't have to go back and forth between Blender and UE, you can basically make tweaks while the game is running.
    • Keep in mind Intuit has lobbied like crazy to keep taxes complicated so they can continue to sell tax software. They also got caught hiding their legally mandated free version so they could release a second one that pushed countless people into charges they didn't need to pay to file. Intuit leads the charge on inventing problems so they can sell you the solution and disrespecting you in the process.
    • Oddly, there was a time that UFC games were culturally relevant, largely because of the graphics and gameplay that was different than the norm. But it seems like as the sport grew in popularity, gaming outlets stopped talking about the games.
