Mando
I gotta admit I was a bit shocked there was actually a wax figure but as I read the article and the comments in the article I found my view on it changing, I can see why there should reminders of what happened in the past, to ignore and deny something happened....isnt that exactly what Hitler and the reich tried to do themselves..... i think the best and most open mindedness over the whole issue was summed up by the representative quoted from the German Jewish community on the actual bbc site. to pretend the atrocities didnt happen and distort histroy is a recipe for disaster and eventually it would happen again. Every nation has a leader who was repsonsible for atrocities of some shape or other, heck Genocide is alive and well today, to forget this evil man is to forget all the pain and suffereing handed out to 6million plus. If you see the figure he isnt full of bravado or in his prime is he? Dont you get it every madam tussauds waxwork of stars and influential people of the century good or bad looking in their prime, hitlers is of a broken man riddled with drug addiction, I suppose you want them to rid their waxworks of say Genghis Khan wouldnt have he been just as much a Genocidal maniac? tbh the title is a touch misleading the waxwork hasnt "returned" he was there before the head was removed! shame on you Hum :p Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/647120-hitler-returns-to-berlin/page/3/#findComment-589534742 Share on other sites
+Frank B. Subscriber² Posted July 5, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted July 5, 2008 Much of Germany's economic strength today comes from what he achieved back then. I fail to see how the 'Wirtschaftswunder' during the 1950s and 1960s comes from anything achieved by the Hitler government. In my view, the punishment laid upon the German people has been unproportional to their 70-year old crime. I disagree. The punishment laid upon Germany after WWII was fully appropriate considering the heinous crimes committed by Germany. It's those idiots that forced TIME to deny Hitler as being 'Man of the Century', when it is clear no man has shaped the century (for better or worse) more than Hitler. Don't you agree that the 'Man of the Century' ought to be someone who had a positive effect rather than a madman? Mando
Mephistoles is spot on, and yes a man OF the century should be for positive things, not genocide. Ghandi or Albert Einstein to name just two spring to mind. Or to be fair also Mother Teresa. Or to be fair also Mother Teresa. talk about being hypocritical, deny hitler the person of the century but nominate mother teresa? give me a ****ing break. in any case, the TIME person of the whatever criteria was supposed to be based on influence, not positive/negative influence. I guess it's arguable who influenced humanity more - hitler or einstein, or some other person - but value judgements don't come into the equation anywhere. The wishy-washy lets-kiss-everyone's-ass politics have since changed that criteria in practise though. back onto the wax figure, it's sad that a piece of art on which countless hours was spent was vandalized just like that, what a jerk. The_Decryptor Veteran Posted July 6, 2008 Veteran Share Posted July 6, 2008 ...Don't you agree that the 'Man of the Century' ought to be someone who had a positive effect rather than a madman? It should be anybody who had the most impact. For better or for worse, Hitler had the largest impact on the world in the last 100 years (Einstein helped physics along greatly, which has helped the world, but it didn't have the same level of impact) Edit: Same way Osama got Man of the Year, it's based on the level of impact the person had.
