Axel Springer moves to the Mac

Axel Springer AG, Germany's largest newspaper publisher, is moving its entire organization -- 12,000 computers -- to the Mac platform. Axel Springer will become Apple's largest corporate customer in Europe, and second largest customer worldwide. (Google is number one.)

Axel Springer owns Bild and Bild am Sonntag, tabloid-style dailies (not unlike The Sun in the UK or the New York Post in the U.S.) and several magazines sold under the Bild brand. The company currently uses large-scale publishing solutions from WoodWing Software and CCI, both of which support Mac clients.

, CEO Matthias D?pfner cited ease-of-use, appearance, and total cost of ownership in the reason to switch. Employees can start buying and using Macs and iPhones this month, though the entire organization will be migrated over the course of a year or two.

I dislike the newspapers published by the Axel Springer Verlag as much as most other Germans - 'BILD' is the worst offender here -, on the other hand I have to applaud them for this move.

I love to see these type of news articles!

I know Enterprise Sales is working on a 28,000 computer deal with a multi-national right now, however it will be a replacement over 3 years so it isn't as impressive. :)

the learning process is going to take a while, but it the long run its going to be wayyyyyyyy worth it

Bah, it's not really long to learn OS X. Give them a 1 hour training and they will be able to write their newspaper easily :p

Give the designers a good 4-8 hours, because a design program is really long to learn IMO. Then again, it's not like it's really the OS that causes problem.
