Anti Virus 2009 Spyware

Guys,

My dad has just phoned in a panic... his system has been infected with the Anti Virus 2009 Spyware. He is urgently seeking a removal tool and I have drawn a complete blank.

Anyone know how to fix this?

It sounds like the variant of the Smithfraud. You can remove it manually ( ignore the spyhunter download, it's free until you want to remove something. ;) ) with the instructions provied here, or you can download something like Spybot Search & Destroy to remove it. Scan in safe mode.

When I have ran into the Anti Virus 200X spyware in the past, Spybot Search and Destroy always seems to take care of. You could also try combofix or sdfix, you can find them via google. I can't remember what the URL's are.
