New Bungie Game Incoming?

Can we just talk about what this game may be, and not Halo 3?

With limited available information about what this game may be (leaves a lot open to speculation), I figured this topic would get derailed quickly. :p I'm not condoning the side discussion above, but talking about matters pertaining to one of the qualities this new game's multiplayer might have isn't too far off topic now.

That would split the population up and potentially destroy the point of MM - getting people into a game with those their skill level, and doing it in a short amount of time. To do that, you need a ton of people playing through MM.

I absolutely hate that argument, and here is why: If people don't want to play matchmaking, then what does that tell you? So, basically, we should force people to play in one system so it can work properly. You are FORCING a lot of people to give up their freedom to play what they want to into something that they might not want to.

Not only that, but I'll use COD3 as an example. That game had very strong matchmaking. Yet it also had a server browser. So, where's the problem?

That excuse is a solution in search of a problem.

MM is popular in consoles now because the system that builds your skill based on how you play is built into Xbox Live itself and into your Gamertag. It's called TruSkill and was created at Microsoft Research and takes into account a combination of a lot of things. As it's built into XBL, it's easy to implement for the developers if they just do MM.

I know about TruSkill. I personally hate ranks. Especially when you lose because members on your team quit or suck. Of course, your rank will go down, even though it's not your fault. I prefer playing without ranks. I also get ****ed that Halo 3 has double-ranking. Not only are you ranked by rank, but you are also ranked by experience. WTF? Then, if you're playing a map that you hate, when you quit, they give you that BS that you will be penalized. Well, **** YOU TOO Bungie! I did not have a choice to be in this map and gametype!

I disagree, no single weapon can dominate that easily without the player being very good. And that's what I love about Halo: the balancing is near perfect, from my experience.

When you have a lousy weapon, while everyone else has a nice weapon, you are going to fail. Battle rifle vs. Assault rifle ususally ends in BR's winning, especially in a large map.

Matchmaking is not that bad at all. In fact, I think it's brilliant. If there was server browsing(which would be nice) I'd probably still use matchmaking a majority of the time. Hell, it's defiantly no reason to avoid COD4 on Xbox360.

I absolutely despise matchmaking, and it is certainly enough for me to avoid COD 4.

Maybe you missed what I posted before

If you don't see it that way, I guess I think back to many matches on the small Jungle stage in which one teams stays on the same side of the map for the whole game.

I'm confused though when you said somebody won't be able to camp that long with motion sensing. COD 4 one ups that with a map that shows where fire is coming from, adds a kill cam to see where somebody is firing from, or just plain shows you where a person is if they are "camping". If they are moving and you know where they are but don't bother killing them, I don't see how one can comment.

Did you mean Domination instead of Assault? If you ever played that game type, camping is very hard to come by. The battlefield is always changing as the enemy captures different points so its hard to camp in an area where there once was people, but aren't anymore because the landscape changed so to say.

Yea, I don't see it that way at all. I guess it depends on the levels that you play against too, that may have a little bit to do with it.

All I know is, from my experience, CoD4 is a slower paced game due to the abundance of campers, while I have not encountered much, if any campers in Halo 3. It's not incredibly slower (CoD4 that is), but it is a little bit slower.

That's just how I see it anyway. You're entitled to your own interpretation. :)

lol. Didn't play much Halo 2 have ya or Halo. Halo 3 isn't as bad but the BR still comes out victory even in close combat situations if your somewhat decent (not good just decent) at the game.

Sorry, I'm hoping it's not anything Halo related and it's not another FPS.

@Slane - you're one of few who think that, as witnessed by the fact that Halo is the flagship franchise for the Xbox division because most people do like it. There will be more Halo games, whether developed by Bungie or not.

Halo: CE had a brillant campaign and kick ass (if not imba) MP. Halo 2 campaign sucked for the most part, MP had stronger points than Halo:CE and added MP. Halo 3 just sucked in generally ****ty campaign, and horrible MP. Only reason people think it's such a badass game is because it is the flagship game. First game to actually have a strong party system and strong MM system. It was simple and easy to do. Halo has never been spectular, used the same old **** just modified or tweaked and never bought anything new (to the FPS genre). It only made Live more popular and paved a way for future online play. Other than that, Halo doesn't have much for it. Then again it's fruitless, because if it wasn't Halo it would another game that everybody and there dead grandmother would be all over.

Of course there will be more Halo games, it's a ****in cash-cow. You'll see me buy Halo Wars and no other Halo game after that, unless it looks like it will be super awesome I won't be getting. Halo has succesfully become the FF of Xbox. Lets see how high we can get the numbers, ehh?

Actually, it is not a "double-ranking". The military-style status that you get for playing/winning games is just that, a status. It does not affect who you get matched up with. So, no, it's only one ranking.

When you have a lousy weapon, while everyone else has a nice weapon, you are going to fail. Battle rifle vs. Assault rifle ususally ends in BR's winning, especially in a large map.

I'm sorry, but I'll have to disagree here (with both of you). The weapon balance in Halo 3 is some of the best I have seen in any game. While there will be distinct advantages in certain situations (for example, like you said, BR vs AR at long range) it is by no means unavoidable. Besides being completely out in the open on a map like Sandtrap, just because you have a BR on you at long range does not mean you can't get out of the situation or counter. The BR is not as effective at long range as it used to be in Halo 2, it is now an ideal mid to short range weapon, much like the AR is an ideal short to long range weapon. Unless you have a power weapon against you, you always have a chance of either escaping the situation or turning the tides. I wouldn't be so quick to blame the game on a skill deficiency. :p

I absolutely despise matchmaking, and it is certainly enough for me to avoid COD 4.

Ah, that's a shame. You're missing out.

Ah, that's a shame. You're missing out.

LOL, missing out on what? Getting aggravated because I'm playing a map and a gametype I don't like, with a team that I don't want to play with?

Team Fortress 2 has filled my Halo 3 void quite well.

Also, the AR is totally inferior to the BR at both close and long ranges. If everyone is spawned with a BR, the game would be much more balanced IMO.

Weapon balance in 3 is an improved but it's still unbalanced just nowhere to the degree of previously installments, i've admitted to that already.

While there is a chance for a person to win a close combat battle with AR against BR, it really doesn't happen much. Maybe it's because I only played with MLG people who ###### the **** out of the BR, and when I went in MM, BR in my hands and teammamtes we would win. Don't know how many times i've had and seen BR against 2 AR's and BR wins. It's not as strong as H2 but it's still there. I'm not blaming it on a skill deficiency as when I did play didn't come across many players that were better than I or my team. Haven't played the game in months (if you want check my tag you'll probally see games played, brother and friend use my tag and his to play together), thinking about loading it up tonight to check out Cold Storage, and play with a few friends who are stuck up H3's ass and can't be bothered to play any other game, and then I won't touch it until another friend situation presents itself.

You guys just suck with the AR. I'm not even trying to be mean or funny here. If you can't beat someone who has a BR with an AR at close distance, don't blame the game, blame yourself. Seriously.

Agreed. Even at mid-range, it's more than possible with a couple well placed grenades to give you some extra time to close in the range.

lol. Your funny.

I'm not disputing the AR can't be used at close distance. I'm disputing that the BR is imbalanced, since it can effeictly kill at long rage and short range. So ya, you kinda went off the track there.

Don't get mad because I'm stating my opinion that your beloved game isn't as good as people make it seem to be.

It has something to do with either Halo or Marathon.

Probably both, but very indirectly. Like I said earlier:

What I will say is that it probably won't be a Halo game. It might tie in to the Halo Universe (such as how Halo tied into the Marathon Universe), but it's not going to be a Halo 4.

Bungie seems to like to do things like that.

Thank you! It's so annoying when people are told that they suck when they are showing some criticism towards Halo.

And what you said about the AR vs. BR is on the dot accurate. Statistically, you are not in a good position when fighting someone with a BR when you have an AR. It doesn't mean you can't defeat the guy with the BR...

Sure you can. I really have no idea how you can say that. But whatever, there are varying skill levels and we won't get anywhere. Let's move on.

Back on topic: Perhaps it has something to do with the Peter Jackson project? Or maybe it's the new title that apparently has "nothing to do with Halo" as Bungie has previously stated... :shiftyninja:

I think it's agreeing with me that the BR is the superior weapon, but also agreeing with you that you can kill a BR user with an AR.

And the only reason it went off topic, is because Ruiz had to resort to a personal attack (you said you) instead of coming up with an logical insightful arguement, like you do 98% of the time Magik (i only shaved 2 off, cause I can't read all your posts). I'll debate it all day, but when you resort to personal attacks it's childish and shows your maturity level, but hey its the internet.

Thanks for reminding me about the project with Peter Jackson (isn't Halo:Chronciles or some ****?). It could very will be, in which case I'm intrested to see what he does with the game.

Halo: Chronicles? Is that what it is called? I don't recall seeing that anywhere. Either way, I am very interested to see what Peter Jackson has in mind for this game. It is said to usher in a whole new genre of games.

Trust me, I'm not getting mad. And don't assume things. Halo isn't one of my 'beloved' games, I barely play it. According to your service record, you play it nearly three times as much as I do. So please sir, get that garbage out the door.

The fact that you replied to me in such a tone to justify what you said clearly shows that you were offended in some kind of manner. I'm sorry if you were.

No, you used a personal attack, so I assumed you were a halo fanboy. Don't use personal attacks to say something and somebody won't point out your post wasn't warrant and didn't contribute anything but a flame to the thread.

It was announced at X06, so I'm assuming that's the name being used. Dunno for sure though. Peter jackson does have a brillant mind, and I'm sure he can do somethin spectular with this game (any game infact).

While I disagree with you on so many levels, it's best for me to just put out the "flame" that I supposedly started and let it go...

    • Good review, and yeah the benchmark breakdown is pretty clear but also a little messy in a good way. It’s kinda interesting to see where the RX 9070 GRE slides in between the 7800 XT and the 9070 XT , especially when it comes to AI tasks and Blender style workloads. The side by side with Nvidia’s RTX 5070 and 4070 makes it feel obvious just how competitive the mid range GPU scene has gotten lately, and that’s great for creators and gamers too since you can pick based on your priorities rather than only chasing one single thing.
