Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008)

Recommended Posts

Last night I went to see Hellboy II: The Golden Army and I must say, this was a beautiful world that Del Toro created, if not a little to far out there. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the film, but found myself constantly thinking about the CGI. I think Del Toro tried to much with this and relied a little to much on CGI. But the film was nevertheless awesome and Selma Blair was absolutely beautiful (especially the scene where she's wearing, well, go see the film).

I felt the movie was too short, as well. I thought there could have been more character development around the antagonist. That dude was a badass!

I agree with the 7/10.

It was very good, and I'd gladly see it again (heck, I'll even pay to see it again as I got in free the first time :D), but it was a bit cheesy in some places and that got on my nerves. However, you could definitely see much influence from the art style of Pan's Labyrinth in this film, and it was great to see that.

I thought it was bad. So did everyone I saw it with (just got back from it). It was incredibly cliched and relied on CGI far too much instead of trying to tell a novel story. Simply wasn't entertaining as a lot of the moments aren't very appealing. Felt the first was far better, as did everyone I saw it with (5 people).

1.5/5

1.5 though? It wasn't that bad. I saw it with four people and we all loved it. Not as good as the first, but then again most sequels aren't.

I disagree -- it was that bad. The storyline was so utterly cliched it's not even funny. Let me give you an example. Being discrete about it in case people accidentally scroll over the text.

- By the time the opening scene ended, I knew how the movie was going to end. I knew what Hellboy was going to do to end the movie because it was so obvious.

- When Liz found out about a secret at the start of the movie I knew it would droll on the entire movie and that it'd be information used at a "dramatic" point in the movie.

- I knew the new "leader" figure would essentially turn out to have one of those nice good 'ol feel good moments as soon as he started bossing people around.

- I knew that Hellboy would regret his decision to show the world who he is as soon as he was talking about it. I knew the movie would show people reacting that way.

So, yes, for a movie to telegraph what's going to happen in the opening scene, it is very much that bad. It was like watching any movie sequel in the history of the world. It was just a boring movie. But, sure if you like CGI, go see it.

Everyone in the entire movie theater was actually commenting on how bad it was when we left. And, no, the theater wasn't rude or yelling and screaming (or laughing) during the movie or anything. Just a normal movie environment that everyone disliked the movie in.

Not a single one of those points made it a bad movie for me. CGI was used to much, I'll agree with that, but those other points didn't take anything away for me. But to each their own I guess. The majority of the people who have seen it enjoyed it too: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/hellboy_2_...views_users.php

Saw this on an advanced advanced sneak employee viewing (thanks to my friend) last night :)

I thought it was a fun action film, and if you enjoyed the first one you'll seriously love this. The ending was a bit of a let down, but I won't say anymore :)

Enjoy it guys

Del Toro is clearly a boy with one of a hell of an imagination. Sorry, this was poor...

Well, in France we still have one month to wait until the release. But thanks to Festival Europ?en du Film Fantastique de Strasbourg I had the chance to saw it. And I loved it as much as the first one.

I'm looking forwad to see what Del Toro prepare with the adaptation of a small story with small people and a wizard.

Fully Agree!

I will give it a bit more tho probably 8 or 9 :)

I watched this recently.. It has felt like forever since I watched the first. First one I didn't really like, and this one wasn't really that much better.

Too many far fetched ideas for me to really enjoy.. I'm gonna have to give it 5/10
