E3 2008 Official Thread of "WHERE/WHEN... Can I see E3?"

Recommended Posts

Man. I work 11-7 today and I'm throwing a party with some friends afterwards (parents are out of town :p) so it's going to be a while before I get the goods :(

-Spenser

What's that I hear? Open Invite?

Right boys, house party at stiflers!

Time to drink and wreck :p

Sucks I am at work and most of the sites are blocked because of gaming related nature.

Twitter isn't, thankfully. What's a good twitter feed to follow for the most reliable/quick updates?

If I were you, or anyone unable to view due to work, I'd stay on a blackout till I was home, then kick back and watch the video presentations.

I hate reading blog/text updates for gaming events.

is engadget blocked for you as well? That's the site I'll be following from work.

yeah, I considered that. But so far my day has been pretty darn slow.... since we are waiting for stuff from another department... and aside from work the only thing I can think about is E3... so live blogs for me :p

So is G4 doing their thing live?

What are the other options?

Live stream options I know of are on page 1 ;)

And yeah, G4 are doing every conference Live online. So are IGN and Gamespot I believe... IGN for sure, not 100% on Gamespot.

or better yet... we need some people here who are watching it live to give us the updates!

That's guaranteed to happen ;)

There will be a lot of "OMG OMG :o :o" coupled with hideous spelling mistakes of quick typing fingers.

So what are some games you guys are looking forward to seeing?

For me, it's: (and I realize these are all pretty big name releases, but still...)

Half-Life 2: Episode 3

Even though the rumors say it won't be there, I can always wish. I'd just like to see a few glimpses of the locations we'll be going. There is obviously going to be one hell of a long helicopter ride, and a lot of snow... But while I'm dreaming, it would be nice to hear that Valve have come a long way in their development with all of their resources on this game, and expect it to be released sometime this year.

Portal 2

I just want a teaser for this game. When the whole job listing fiasco happened a few months back, we got a nice big confirmation of the games existence, and a nasty chunck of revealed plot. I avoided reading all that, though, and I'd just like a simple clip with a new puzzle and GLaDOS's taunting voice.

Gears of War 2

I was probably one of the few not wowed by their last showing of gameplay. The big problem for me is the added characters. I just don't like them. The gameplay seems fairly much the same, but I think that's a good thing. All i really want is just more of the original game, and the few little combat additions we've seen so far just sweeten the deal. But I'd like to see some new footage that really gives me a reason to be hyped for this game beyond "Gears 1 was pretty great."

Final Fantasy XIII

This is another game that we've just outright heard won't be shown at E3, if you're to trust the rumors, but I honestly can't believe that. This is pretty much the next big game for the PS3, after LittleBigPlanet. Considering we saw a trailer at last year's E3, and considering just how much Final Fantasy XIII means to Sony and the PS3, I'm sure we'll at least see new trailer to tide us over.

LittleBigPlanet

Everytime I see this game, I realize that it is the game that makes me wish I had a PS3. It's coming close to release, and we've definitely seen enough of this game to make us happy, but a little more could never hurt.

Alan Wake

I was a huge fan of Max Payne, so naturally I'm super psyched about Alan Wake, being also developed by Remedy. We haven't seen a whole lot about this game since the first E3 showing, but I think that this is going to be the big blowout year. After all, the game is still tentatively set to be released this year, as far as I know.

I also can't wait to see some new blood. E3 is always a time for major new game announcements, and I'll be glad to have something new to look forward to over upcoming E3s.

So what are some games you guys are looking forward to seeing?

snipped

After my PC started to age I stopped playing Half Life... so ep 3 and portal are off my wish list... so I am really only looking forward to more information on Gear 2, Alan Wake and LBP

Looking forward to E3, mostly for updates about HL2 EP3 (and other stuff from Valve) and Fallout 3. I really want to see how Todd and his "gang" at Bethesda have made the combat system and to show us what kind of quests the game will feature.

Are they also doing it on the TV? I am working from home today, so can have it on in the background while working on the TV if they are doing it live.

And yeah, I should have looked at Page 1 a little bit better.

SpikeTV which I assume is what G4TV is, are doing an HD broadcast for free on TV I think.

edit: I think SpikeTV and G4TV are two different things. I dunno if it's on TV then Larry :/

I still believe that G4 has their E3 coverage live on TV, since they are first and foremost a video game channel.

I thought I heard something about Spike doing coverage, but I don't think it will be something as big as live, 24/7.

Yeah you must be right.

On the G4TV website their is a poll on how you're watching E3, answers are,

On TV

Online

Both.

Thanks for the replies guys. (Y) I went to the G4 site, and found this...

The Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo Press Conferences will be live and uninterrupted both on G4TV and on the site and the rest will only be streamed live here on G4tv.com.

So yeah, according to that it will be on G4, so I will be watching it on my TV if all goes well.

I think I'll be watching from IGN this year, I did gamespot last year and well, it was iffy at best.

I would suggest someone makes a specialised E3 topic for each conference in their respective forums to save us all spamming this topic with the "Zomg they just announced bla bla"

I'm looking at you audio. :p

Well seeing as the conferences are all at different times I think one big E3 thread is manageable, and then for any big announcements, such as a new game, it can have it's own topic in the respected Sony/MS/Nintendo section.

But hey, if people want individual threads for each E3 discussion, go ahead and make them!

The main purpose of this thread was to cut down on the "Where can I watch E3/When is E3 starting?" topics/questions we'll no doubt still see anyway ... :/ :p

If I were you, or anyone unable to view due to work, I'd stay on a blackout till I was home, then kick back and watch the video presentations.

I hate reading blog/text updates for gaming events.

That's a good idea. I might do that if I can keep myself focused ;)

Where will downloadable vids be available you think?

The guys who are streaming it Live will no doubt offer it for download.

I know Gamespot offer it for download/viewing after the event every year for sure.

What's the bet the G4TV website will crash under the heavy load?

I think they'll be fine (Y)

Can always jump to IGN if they do crash.

    • Just the price of doing business. The scamble to pull as much from the web as possible is happening, and it's happening before a case like this changes how or what is legal do to with AI in terms of data harvesting. But even then as we've seen with the likes of Google who ignore cookie requests and just accept the fact they'll get fined, it's built into their business price model now. AI is here, its not going away. Their reward if any from the court case would be best suited to trying to incorprate AI or licence their end points as authentic human verified content. The problem is, as we've seen these same news papers are using AI themselves.

    • This Chinese company is reportedly developing a feature Apple and Samsung can only dream of by Hamid Ganji While companies like Apple and Samsung have been relatively conservative with their devices’ battery capacities in recent years, Chinese manufacturers have taken the competition to the next level by introducing significantly larger batteries. However, the latest report from China suggests that a local company may already be developing a smartphone with a whopping 14,000mAh battery. Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station claimed on Weibo that a smartphone maker is developing a device with a 14,000mAh battery. If true, it would be the largest battery ever used in a smartphone and could, in theory, provide up to a week of battery life on a single charge. The leaker did not reveal the name of the company behind the device, but there are some clues. This week, HONOR unveiled the X80 Pro Max in China with an 11,000mAh battery and 90W wired charging support. The company also launched the Honor Win in January, which packs a 10,000mAh battery. HONOR, a former subsidiary of Huawei, has a proven track record of developing smartphones with unusually large batteries. However, other Chinese brands, including Xiaomi, have also launched devices such as the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max with 7,500mAh batteries. Though Chinese users on Weibo also believe the company behind the new battery is HONOR. Interestingly, Digital Chat Station said the device with the 14,000mAh battery weighs around 220 grams, making it lighter than the Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max (233 grams) and slightly heavier than the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra (214 grams). The iPhone 17 Pro Max currently packs a 5,088mAh battery in eSIM-only versions, while the Galaxy S26 Ultra features a 5,000mAh battery. Neither device is expected to see a dramatic increase in battery capacity in its next-generation successor. So when it comes to battery comparison, Chinese brands are unbeaten. HONOR smartphones are currently available in the EU, but the Chinese brand has no official presence in the United States due to restrictions imposed by the U.S. government.
