CUPERTINO, California?July 14, 2008?Apple? today announced that iPhone? and iPod? touch users have already downloaded more than 10 million applications from its groundbreaking new App Store since its launch late last week. Developers have created a wide array of innovative mobile applications ranging from games to location-based social networking to medical applications to enterprise productivity tools. More than 800 native applications are now available on the App Store, with more than 200 offered for free and more than 90 percent priced at less than $10.

Good for them but I think I'm going to keep my first iPhone. 3G iPhone is not available in Puerto Rico (seems that Apple hates PR) and I'm happy with the current plan I have. $35 for unlimited data and 200 sms, those are $15 I can spend in gas :p

It was a game-changer from day 1.

It's the next iPod.

Congrats to Apple, but this comes as no surprise. It's good to know that Apple actually gives a damn about users and how they experience their products on a daily basis, from apps to the interface. That's certainly saying a helluva lot more than I can for other tech companies that just don't "get it."

I'm getting mine ASAP, or as soon as Rogers can get me set up.

Did Canada finally get some good tariffs or are they still disproportionately expensive? UK got some fairly reasonable deals with iPhone 3G tariffs..

Price is a bit more reasonable, but you still need to get a data plan with it.

The Rogers website has all the info. I can live with it, though.

Exactly.

I mean, for Rogers, it took a lot of complaints till they finally put out a 'reasonable' data plan of 6GB for $30, which still does not beat AT&T's unlimited.

I must say, congrats to Apple for the 3G iPhone's success.

It's a shame that I can't get one even if I want to. Movistar in spain offers better prices for new customers or customers from another companies. I would have to break my current contract first, losing my number and all. And the prices are a total joke, because they force their data plan on everybody, which is 15?. I dont find this fact all that outrageous, if it wasn't for the fact that on top of that, you have a minimum to spend on voice calls. Even though you CAN pay around 9 euro as the minimum voice calls, people usually spend around 25. Making it 40 euro (ex VAT) a month for a phone that costed 250 euro.

For around or less than 30 euro a month you can get the 8gb one for 130-150 euro. In spain for that amount you have to pay 250.

If I were an apple fanboy I would be outraged that I have to deal with the evil telcos to get an awesome product like the iphone. I can't even get in spain because there's no point in engaging in a 24-month contract when I'm going to spend the next 9 months abroad. And since I have no guarantees of being able to use the SIM from another official iphone carrier, that would be 9 months of contract gone to waste.

It's sad. Apple should sell unlocked iphones worldwide even at scandalously high prices.

Exactly.

6gb is a lot. A lot. In spain the most you can have is 1GB for 25 euro.

I still think Canada has disproportioned prices, as in way too high.

And I've never had a cellphone but apparently Rogers' network is really bad... but Bell & Telus too, so what should we expect?

The competition is absent in Canada in the mobile sector. We just blow and it's gonna take a good 3 years at least before we can catch up.

    • Just remember - Microsoft is a trillion dollar company. They didn't have to raise the price this high. They chose to.
    • PowerToys is getting a new window management utility by Taras Buria If you use PowerToys on Windows 11 or 10, you probably know that the app has quite a few utilities for window management. Fancy Zones, Always on Top, Crop and Lock, just to name a few. Soon, Microsoft will add another one, and fans of Alt + Tab should be excited. Proposed by Clint Rutkas, the module has a very simple idea: use a keyboard shortcut to toggle between windows within one app. For example, if you have four browser windows open, Alt + ` will let you switch between them just like Alt + Tab switches between all running apps. Here is the utility description from its GitHub pull request: Like other PowerToys utilities, Alt Window Cycle will offer shortcut customization. You will be able to use default shortcuts (Alt + ` for the next window or Alt + Shift + ` for the previous one) or remap them to something else. For now, there is no information on when Alt Window Cycle will arrive, so we will have to wait for the next PowerToys feature update (Microsoft usually pushes them on a monthly basis). Recently, Microsoft released version 0.100, which reworked the shortcuts guide, introduced an extension gallery for Command Palette, and more. Shortly after, version 0.100.1 arrived as a bug-fixing update. PowerToys is available on Windows 10 and 11, and you can get the app from the official GitHub repository, the Microsoft Store, or winget. Although Windows 10 is no longer supported, PowerToys developers currently do not plan to drop the now-unsupported operating system. And with Microsoft giving Windows 10 one more year in the Extended Security Update, you can expect PowerToys to remain available on Windows 10 for quite a while.
