[Updated 8/04] Apple Sues Unauthorized Clone Maker Psystar

Cormier said i made a stupid comment because you arent forced to use OSX on a mac, when you clearly are before you can install any other OS.

I'm not sure what he said, but making an argument that you're forced to use an OS for just one time before installing the other OS is just petty.

my point is, for the price you pay for mac books, you deserve alot more screen and harddrive space than what you get.

I think to pay 40k for a UK mini vehicle, I'd expect alot more perks.

Yet they seem to be one of the most popular notebooks on the market.

Notebooks get more expensive the smaller and lighter they get.

Only because its the notebook to have because only cool people use them. Mainly kids asking their rich mummy and daddy to buy them one.

lol, I know people who have Macs, and are far from rich.

Why are you so upset? Just because people like Macs? I guess it's true what they say... change is hard.

If you can't stand it, let them buy "overpriced POS", and continue using Windows... the true way. :)

Dells will always be cheaper than Apples--hell they're cheaper than most other PC manufacturers. But the price differential isn't as crazy as some make it out to be. (at least in the US)

The one thing Mac people forget about Dells is that they are very popular for their coupons. You can get crazy good deals on their computers, if you look on sites like fatwallet, slickdeals, etc. For example: Just a few days ago, Dell had a Dell Studio 15.4" T8100, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD, Slot loading DVD+/-RW, Vista Premium, Bluetooth, Webcam/Mic for $750. You could add a discrete graphics card to the lineup and it'd still be cheaper than a Macbook Pro or a Macbook. I guess the correct comparison would be to the MBP for this Dell laptop as they both have the 15.4" screen.

And on the desktop side, most people like building their own computers and choosing the parts they put into the computer. You can't do that on a Mac. The one downside to Apple's market share (IMO) is that you can't install the OS on any PC legally. You have to buy a Mac computer to use the Mac OS, and that ultimately kills the market share for them. It'll only get up to a certain percentage (right now their market share is 7 or 8%).

If they arent rich then they are idiots when you can buy better computers for less money.

I like Mac hardware and i like OSX, im just not a sheep that follows the crowd and buys things because Steve Jobs can polish a turd.

Are you rich?

What's your point?

Apple allows you to install Windows and Linux, but NO, Apple will never allow you to install OSX on a windows PC. I hope Psystar wins. Also apple should allow Windows users to install OSX but will certain hardware specifications.

The fact is that they're a hardware company and that's where they get the majority of their revenue. It's a totally different business model from Microsoft.

I prefer Blackberry OS over WinMo, but why can't RIM license it to other hardware?

Notebooks get more expensive the smaller and lighter they get.

the prices one pays for one of these toys deserves better faster hardware. the smallest macbook costs almost twice as much as the cheaper windows notebook with comparable hardware

Now compare that windows notebook with an EEE or Vaio.

Apple closed hardware philosophy its so different to those in pc manufacturesrs its pointless to compare, both price wise and usability. Seems that people want to put silver and mirrors inside the same bag just because both are shiny.

Seriously, this is ridiculous, no side (apple supporters and apple retracters) will accomplish nothing, why bother?

*sigh* well, I have never accomplished my intent to make these ridiculous fanboy fights to end, so I guess Im beign ridiculous too.

What makes you so special? You don't think anyone else has the ability to like Mac hardware and OS X?

Now compare that windows notebook with an EEE or Vaio.

the EEE has a hugely expensive SSD drive. that in and of itself makes the price so whopping.

but i looked up the EEE PC site and it appears to be geared to a preppy-istic group of users and not power users. Sony Vaio? geez, when I sold Pc's back in the day, Vaio's were expensive apple like systems. Sony then, didn't want folks to upgrade their Vaio's so they pretty much locked up their boxes.

Vaio's are possibly akin to being apple style PC's.

You'd be surprised at how low of a price Asus can acquire oem SSDs. It still stands by the fact though that prices of notebooks increase as size/weight decreases.

Specially when its a fad.

    • Google Gemini co-lead Noam Shazeer is leaving for OpenAI by Pradeep Viswanathan Noam Shazeer is best known as one of the co-authors of the 2017 “Attention Is All You Need” paper, which introduced the Transformer architecture that now powers most large language models. He also worked on several major Google AI projects, including LaMDA, before leaving the company in 2021 to co-found Character.AI. He also authored the Sparsely-gated Mixture of Experts (2016) paper, which is popular among the AI community. After falling behind OpenAI and Anthropic a couple of years ago, Google brought Shazeer back in 2024 as part of a major deal with Character.AI. Through this deal, along with Noam, several other researchers returned to Google DeepMind. More recently, he was a vice president of engineering at Google and a technical co-lead for Gemini. Today, Noam Shazeer announced on X that he is leaving Google and joining OpenAI. In his post, Shazeer said it was a difficult decision to move on, adding that he was proud of the Google team and what it had built together. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman welcomed the move with a post of his own, saying Shazeer was one of the people he had most wanted to work with since OpenAI’s early days. Google has made strong progress with Gemini over the past year, closing the gap with OpenAI in several areas. But losing Noam Shazeer is a major talent setback for them, especially after bringing him back less than two years ago by spending a fortune. For OpenAI, the hire adds one of the industry’s most experienced language model researchers to a team that is already pushing ahead with ChatGPT, Codex, and its next generation of frontier models.
