Killzone 2

Recommended Posts

AB, you better start up the discussion you had in the GTA IV thread back in the days, how no game could be worth a 10/10 etc. else I'm going to be mighty disappointed. >.>

How so?

Most of the respected outlets are giving it 9, or 9.something.

No game is perfect and I still don't think 10/10 or 100% is a good score to throw at a game. I fully support 1UPs lettering scheme over any numbering scheme, any day - Especially the idiotic 4/4 or 6/6 type numbering schemes, and even 5/5 to some extent.

Letters > Percentages > Number scales for me.

GTA4 was way worse than this anyway, 10/10's were everywhere - http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/869/869541p7.html

I mean, 10/10 for every single category on the IGN scale? (sound/graphics/gameplay/appeal/presentation)

[by the way, I love GTA4, just responding to the argument you decided to bring into this topic]

23 mins long, seems to have a good story recap for those who haven't played KZ1 (lawl at beeps)

thanks for this vid man, made my sunday :) watched it having breakfast and tea.

Its amazing how a group of 60+ engineers designers technicians created one awesome game, whatever millions and millions they must have earned, they surely surely earned it every cent there.

It was cool and narli to see the Door of Guerrilla headquarters as they are based in old bank building , try busting the metal safe-room door to steal anything lolz.

I got inspired by this vid, i wish i stuck with 3D Max classes in late 1997 , might have struggled for good 3-4 years (which i did anyway) but i might have been living doing something super cool right now instead of crackings lines of codes and scripts trying to keeping those ungodly servers up and buzzing quietly without anyone noticing things.

wouldnt it be wonderful if group of KZ2 players got together and visited Guerrilla HQ and gave them surprise visit thanking them :) . i would had done it if i was living close or nearby.

In case it wasn't obvious enough, the Superbowl commercial is fake

Jeff,

There is alot of debate as to whether or not the ?Teamwork Trailer? for KillZone 2 is actually the ad we?ll see for Superbowl. If you haven?t seen this particular rumoured ad, just search it on YouTube e.g. ?KillZone 2 Superbowl Ad?.

Is it an official ad? And is it really for the Superbowl?

Jeff Rubenstein replied on February 1, 2009 at 12:51 pm

That?s not official.

Seeing as the US embargo is up, a lot of new reviews coming in

Wired Review: Killzone 2 a Thoughtful, Atmospheric Shooter - 9/10

Wired: "Killzone 2 does perform a lot of the same old tricks as other console shooters. But it does them right, and it does them with noticeable style. The well-paced tactical combat and strong narrative make for an enthralling single-player campaign, while the varied multiplayer modes provide depth that will entertain PlayStation 3 fans for quite some time."

Gizmag: Killzone 2 Review (PlayStation 3) - 95/100

Gizmag writes: "It's no secret that the PS3 needs a Halo/Gears of War to call it's own. Haze and Resistance 1/2 have tried to take the crown, but ultimately failed. Sony and Guerilla Games certainly have a lot to live up to with Killzone 2, having turned the hype up to 11 way back in 2005 with their now-infamous pre-rendered trailer at E3. So is this the system-selling franchise Sony need? Read on for our full review."

Inside gamer Killzone 2 Review - 9.5/10

[Translated Review]

Killzone 2 are at first sight ordinary good shooter, but weet on a couple points this way excel, which it the lat in the genre a piece lays higher. To let we start with the intelligence of the antagonists. In much too much shooters the enemies are no longer than running around targets. In Call or Duty there still antagonism is always enemies continue come until you obtain the following checkpoint, but challenge because the bath guys reacts because malignant to your action is not find there. In Killzone 2 the Helghast cover always zoeken if you open the fire on them. Of from that they zoeken possibilities very on you of putting and if it is possible they set up a flank dealing. That chance there and keeps the player is not the enemy under busy, then see you that these come on an always other manner from its cover. The one time rapidly with its head above a wall from, the other time only with its gun to shoot of from that blindly. As if that is not yet enough have I them also concerning cover gone see jumping to rush by means of a head role to a new piece cover. This type details makes shootout a piece tense and gave himself to a number of fantastic wow-momenten.

Gamer.nl: Killzone 2 Review - 9/10

[Translated Review]

Gamer.nl writes: "Killzone is a disappointment. However, we are talking about the original Killzone was released in 2004 on the PlayStation 2. If you cooperate with all PlayStation fans looking for the shooter in our own country frog, there was a large chance that eventually all against it. And we can now conclude that gamers are not quickly forgotten. This is clear now that we so close to the release of the long-awaited sequel coming. Because although there are enough gamers are looking forward to Guerrilla's new effort, there are just so many people who do not have a time like stairs. In addition, the Xbox 360 no home for shooters?"

PSU Killzone 2 Review - 9.5/10

PSU writes: 'Epic' is a word that is loosely banded around the videogame industry. In practically every press release pimping the latest game that comes fluttering into our inbox, we find that very noun used nonchalantly by publishers trying to convince us that its game will be the next big thing. There are very few games that I'd personally describe as epic, only a handful in fact; Oblivion, Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid, God of War and Grand Theft Auto spring to mind. As for first person shooters? Well, not really. Perhaps I could add Call of Duty 4 and Resistance 2 to the list if I was feeling particularly generous, but after a week of playing Killzone 2, I have a new understanding of the word epic, and those two games, as great as they are, don't quite fit into that category. Killzone 2, however, is as epic a game as I've ever played; it's a chaotic, intense, and cinematic experience that blows every other shooter right out of the water. Shout it from the rooftops folks, "Killzone 2 has arrived!" And if it isn't the system seller that the Sony bigwigs are hoping for, they might as well pack their bags and shut down HQ, because Killzone 2 will simply blow you away!

NZGamer: Killzone 2 Review - 9.4/10

NZGamer writes: "There's much to celebrate in Killzone 2. A solid campaign, an ever-mutating multiplayer and a graphical leap for mankind. It is important however, to understand that underneath the veneer what we have is also very recognizable: this is still a game that includes token 'red barrels'. For all its guts and glory, for all its taxing, gritty fortitude, Killzone 2 adheres too strictly to the rules of its genre to send itself into the stratosphere. What will stand the test of time is its pitch perfect grasp of said genre, its wonderfully taxing, take-no-prisoners assault on your senses and your trigger finger. It is the ultimate conservative First-Person-Shooter, whether it wants to be or not. And this is why it's worth your bucks".

Killzone 2 - the best PS3 game yet?

Awful name, very good game. Yes, I've been playing a lot of Killzone 2 over the last month. The PS3 first person shooter is out on the 27th Feb and is definitely worth the wait. Heck, it almost banishes memories of the pre-rendered/in-game footage fiasco of E3 2005. Almost.

Initially, however, the game feels underwhelming. The art design and settings are tediously reminiscent of Halo and Gears of War ? think monosyllabic muscle-bound marines firing rockets around grey alien landscapes. Ok, you won't yawn but you may think "is this it?". Luckily things get a whole let better, primarily because the action itself is so intensely exciting.

It takes a few minutes to realise that running and gunning will get you nowhere ? Killzone 2 is surprisingly tactical. Ok not, say, Rainbow 6 levels of strategy but Killzone 2 certainly involves more use of your brain than you may have expected. The enemy AI is worrying clever, up there with the best. Forget basic cover and shoot - enemy Helghast will use smoke grenades, flank you and generally give you no time to give peace a chance.

A quick glance at screens or trailer does the game a disservice ? Killzone 2 is a gorgeous looking game. You won't have the time or inclination to gawp at the scenery Oblivion-style ? although there are some very special set-pieces ? but it's the attention to detail that really impresses. For example the lighting and particle effects give the landscapes a lived-in, realistic feel.

Despite a sad lack of co-op play ? don't they know co-op is the future of gaming?! - multiplayer is clearly the long-term option. On paper it sounds great ? different classes, role-playing-game levels of customisation - but it will take until full release to get a real feel on how successful it will be. Chances are, given the PS3's relative paucity of top-notch shooters, the answer will be "very".

In many ways Killzone 2 feels like a shooter designed by Blizzard. No, sadly you can't shoot Night Elves with a rocket launcher. Rather it takes all the conventions of the first-person shooter genre ? weaponry, locale, cover/control mechanics ? and polishes them until near perfection. Ok, maybe not perfection, but you get the point. Killzone 2 is a very pretty, very polished first person shooter.

Killzone 2 won't win awards for originality or narrative. And chances are in 15 years time when you dig your dusty PS3 out of the loft and start reminiscing it will be the likes of LittleBigPlanet that stir the greater memories. But in 2009 Killzone 2 is a state of the art first person shooter and a great way for the PS3 to start the year.

Sexeh time, much!

Annoys me so much they aren't releasing the game or a demo by next week, ( Winter Vacation ). :(

Well I've been doing my research on the PSBlog :p [uS pre-order demo codes go out today, and the demo is up Thursday]

Audioboxer | February 1st, 2009 at 3:49 pm

Hey Jeff, any chance you guys have a few spare KZ2 demo codes lying around for us EU guys? I know we’re getting a demo, but the wait over our US friends is a big one!

My LE [steel case] copy is pre-ordered on Shop-To already ;)

Jeff Rubenstein replied on February 1, 2009 at 9:21 pm

I actually asked the KZ team for some to give out on the blog. If they grant them, I’ll probably alert you all via our Twitter account. You’re following, right?

So here's hoping I, or some others can snag one, and we can create a new PSN account then redeem it on that and share with 4 others.

Else we need to set up an overseas account and do some fake pre-orders, unless it's in-store only?

Perhaps we need to spit a few bucks into a Neowin cash fund and buy a code off Ebay ( I'd actually be up for that, I r desperate >.> )

I'm sure I'll stumble across a code or two with my l337 contacts :p

And we obviously just buried the hatchet, right ... right? I always loved you AB

I have zeee power!

moses.jpg

It's cool, I'd share with the folk I know best/have been looking forward to this game the most/are the most regular on NW first.

There's some codes in the NeoGAF KZ2 forum thread. I think the guy tried to sell them but got screwed over, so he posted them in the hope someone would claim before the person on eBay does. Always worth a crack for us Europeans. Not sure what GMT time it would be available on Thursday though, nor if they are legit.

Here they are for those interested:

TDQN-CBBC-45GA

C2RL-BHBL-GGJG

RLQH-NLBC-DHMM

GA2T-2QBJ-QCHM

TJJK-37BG-FG32

If one of them does work, think of me. ;)

Even if they are real, I don't think they can be redeemed till Thursday - And now that they are in the open thousands of people will probably be trying to enter them come Thursday :p

Even if they are real, I don't think they can be redeemed till Thursday - And now that they are in the open thousands of people will probably be trying to enter them come Thursday :p

Yeah, it'll be pure pot luck who gets them. But I figured it was worth posting since someone here might benefit from it.

It is the ideal software for people who need to edit and analyze audio files without complications. Ocenaudio also has powerful features that will please more advanced users. To assist ocenaudio development, a powerful toolset of audio editing, analysis and manipulation called Ocen Framework was created. ocenaudio is also based on Qt framework, a well known library for cross-platform development. Cross-platform support ocenaudio is available for all major operating systems: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Native applications are generated for each platform from a common source, in order to achieve excelent performance and seamless integration with the operating system. All versions of ocenaudio have a uniform set of features and the same graphical interface, so the skills you learn in one platform can be used in the others. VST plugins support Ocenaudio supports VST (Virtual Studio Technology) plugins, giving its users access to numerous effects. Like the native effects, VST effects can use real-time preview to aide configuration. Real-time preview of effects Applying effects such as EQ, gain and filtering is an important part of audio editing. However, it is very tricky to get the desired result by adjusting the controls configuration alone: you must listen the processed audio. To ease the configuration of audio effects, ocenaudio has a real time preview feature: you hear the processed signal while adjusting the controls. The effect configuration window also includes a miniature view of the selected audio signal. You can navigate on this miniature view in the same way as you do on the main interface, selecting parts that interest you and listening to the effect result in real time. Multiselection for delicate editions To speed up complex audio files editing, ocenaudio includes multi-selection. With this amazing tool, you can simultaneously select different portions of an audio file and listen, edit or even apply an effect to them. For example, if you want to normalize only the excerpts of an interview where the interviewee is talking, just select them and apply the effect. Eficient edition of large files With ocenaudio, there is no limit to the length or the quantity of the audio files you can edit. Using an advanced memory management system, the application keeps your files open without wasting any of your computer's memory. Even in files several hours long, common editing operations such as copy, cut or paste happen almost instantly. Fully featured spectrogram Besides offering an incredible waveform view of your audio files, ocenaudio has a powerful and complete spectrogram view. In this view, you can analyze the spectral content of your audio signal with maximum clarity. Advanced users will be surprised to find that the spectrogram settings are applied in real time. The display is updated immediately when altering features such as the number of frequency bands, window type and size and dynamic range of the display.
