2 problems that i need help solving

Recommended Posts

Ok so my systems specs are:

AMD Athlon 64 x2 2.6Ghz

2gb OCZ ram

evga 8800gt

Windows Vista Home Premium

1st Problem:

Sometimes when i am just listening to music and browsing the internet my 2nd core will randomly max out at 100% while Core1 is at 0-10%. Core2 will stay at this until i reboot. I have no clue what is causing it but I'm worried about my system.

2nd Problem:

Less serious but still quite annoying. Sometimes while connected to the internet my Internet connection will go into "Limited Connectivity" for no reason at all and won't come out until i log off and back on or reboot. Its not always Limited Connectivity sometimes it will say just connected to "Local Only".

Hopefully someone can help me out

Thx.

i have the limited connectivity problem with my vista box, i've always had it and sometimes it will go weeks and weeks without not connecting and then i'll get a run of it happening every single boot.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233

the above registry fix might solve it for you, it didn't work for me but you may have better luck -it seemed to have been a bit better since sp1.

with regards to your cpu core issue, can you not see using task manager which process is taking up 100% cpu time?

it's more than likely an application you've got running in the background misbehaving.

try using msconfig to disable your start up items and see how you get on. you could try enabling them one by one to see what is causing it.

I just finished the registry fix so i won't know yet on that but hopefully solves my problem.

My cpu tho i will check all the processes in background to pinpoint the problem.

thx for your help.

What kinds of gadgets are loaded at the time in your side bar? Have you checked your Motherboard Manufacturer for bios/driver updates?

If you can manage a little test run- Turn off the Side Bar to see if one of your gadgets is causing it. Just a thought after looking at the screenshot. I saw one once where the spike on a single cpu (though possible on a dual core) would occur each time a weather update would occur or an RSS reader gadget.

Is the CPU set at Stock or over clocked?

well i thought i solved it by turning off some of the processes from start up. But it ends up that "Hardware Interrupts" are what are stealing all of my cpu.. i don't know what to do now

What sound card/chip do you have? It could be a driver issue. If you're having interrupt problems you may be able to solve it by moving a PCI card one slot over either way.

well i dont really have a sound card in a pci slot. its built in to my mobo. ASUS M2N-SLi Deluxe is my mobo.

I moved my video card to another slot to see if that would help but no luck there.

I've updated the bios on my mobo and video card and still having the problem. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Any errors or notifications in the Event Log around the time of the Spike up? I am thinking indexing or search indexing....Though it should not 100% one cpu but load bear between both... Just a thought.

I would also try the following... Either temporarily Disable the Side Panel or turn off Gadgets one at a Time. I seem to remember a Weather one that You had to set the Polling interval so it would not update as often. Not to mention there was one with Moving Pictures That Was for MSN(WLM) Messenger. That would load up too many buddies and the solution for that one was to have it list names only. And you may say the video card is what would render it, but it would have to first get processed from the internet through the CPU before it goes to the video card.

Also can you repost your desktop with the tray extended and no windows blocking the Side panel I want to see what programs are currently running.

    • draw.io Desktop 30.2.4 by Razvan Serea draw.io desktop is a downloadable security-first diagramming application that runs on Windows, MacOS and Linux. Creating diagrams in the desktop app doesn’t need an internet connection. This is useful when you are disconnected or when you must create diagrams in a highly secure environment, where data protection is of the utmost importance. When you use the draw.io desktop app, your diagrams will be stored on your local device. Because this is a stand-alone application, also designed to run offline, there are no interfaces to cloud storage platforms available. Of course, you can still store your diagrams in folders that are synchronised to your cloud storage if you wish. Easy-to-use diagram editor The draw.io apps work just like the office and drawing tools you are used to using. Drag and drop shapes from the shape libraries and drag to draw connectors between them. Drag connectors to add waypoints and set a precise shape and position, or let them reroute automatically. Double click and start typing to add a label to anything. Create tables and swimlane flows with a familiar tool. Style shapes and connectors with customisable palettes, sketch options, fonts and text formatting tools. Search for shapes, including in open-source icon libraries. Use our vast libraries of shapes and templates, organised into logical categories, to create a range of diagrams and infographics. Generate diagrams from text descriptions using our smart templates. Diagram faster with keyboard shortcuts. draw.io Desktop 30.2.4 changelog: Uses electron 42.4.1 Updates to draw.io core 30.2.4. • Microsoft will soon allow some users to block Copilot from analyzing their Office files by Usama Jawad Microsoft Purview is a pretty useful data governance, security, and management service that allows customers to gain enhanced visibility and control over their content. It's meant for commercial customers, such as organizations that are storing data at scale. As AI continues to expand and infiltrate every corner of a firm, many are a bit conscious about the technology gaining access to their confidential data. Microsoft is now making a configuration change that will allow such customers to rest easy. Right now, users within an organization have the option to apply Purview sensitivity labels (when available) to secure certain files and label them as such. For example, if you apply the "Confidential" label on an Excel file, the file will be encrypted, and a "confidential" watermark will be applied to it. So, if this file is shared with anyone, they are aware that its access is supposed to be restricted. Up until now, Microsoft was allowing some connected experiences, like its AI services, to analyze files, regardless of their sensitivity label. This is of major concern to most organizations, as a recent example highlighted how confidential emails with data loss prevention (DLP) policies like privacy labels were being uploaded to Copilot for analysis. As such, Microsoft is updating an existing Purview data label sensitivity setting that prevents "some connected experiences that analyze content", from being blocked completely from doing this. The label isn't changing, but the blocking is now being enforced across all connected services (including Copilot and other AI tools), and now extends to Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Files with the label applied already will get this enhancement automatically too once it becomes available. Microsoft has urged IT admins to inform their respective helpdesk and compliance teams, update internal documentation, and review sensitivity labels to ensure that they meet their respective compliance needs. This change is tagged as MC1297982 in the Message Center. General availability is scheduled to begin in a phased manner soon and will complete by the end of next month. That said, it is important to note that this only applies to commercial customers who have a license that allows them to use Purview.
