Terrible Bass, Ever worse EQ, and generally crap Sound Quality. the IPOD, which is supposed to be a MP3 player, its rubbish in this respect. There are much faster interfaces out there, even though the iPod's interface is slick, there are much much better interfaces for speed and getting what you want quickly.

iPods these days are fine as a source. The actual phones you use will make the largest difference.

Remember that the touch has no physical controls like all other iPods, this is one reason I have been erring towards the iPhone. The iPhone has volume buttons and a neat headphone controller to change tracks - if you use the touch you'll have to get it out whenever you want to change track or the volume and can't do anything through your pocket or whatever. Hope I'm not sounding too negative.

Well, I hadn't really noticed. See, I use mine as an MP3 player, not as a high-end stereo system. Although Apple's headphones really, truly suck, any $15 pair will give much better sound.

But honestly, the sound quality doesn't need to be fantastic. It's a mobile music player. If I want high-fidelity, I'll buy a $2000 Bose system.

Knowing Apple, and how they like to come out with new versions of everything over a short time period, do you think they will come out with a new iTouch by the end of the year? Or do you think they'll have a price cut?

By the way, thank you everyone for your input, it's greatly appreciated and is helping me a lot to better understand if i should get it or not.

Maybe not a new Touch, but at least price drops/capacity increases are likely.

If your buying it for just internet then maybe look into the http://www.nseries.com/index.html#l=products,n810

the nokia 810. Its $100 more but you can install android onto it and it has a gps chip.

I have the ipod touch with 2.0 on it and it is pretty good. I think the ipod touch is worth it just for the apps alone.

Go listen to an Sony A829. Then come back.... You wouldn't think there is a difference in source but its the biggest difference I've ever had. No matter how good the headphones are, if they are receiving a crap signal then what?

I use Future Sonics Atrio Headphones, hardly rubbish.

That would be out of line with what Apple does with iPods. I feel they tend to introduce new versions as the same price as the older ones so they don't have to lower the price. I don't follow the pricing closely, but I don't think I've ever seen a price drop on an iPod. They just seem to milk the current ones as long as possible and then introduce a new version so they have an excuse to not lower the price. And hey, it works.

Anyways, I'd definitely say get a Touch. I've had mine for about 9 months or so and haven't looked back. It's such a great device, and even moreso now that we have the AppStore.

Depends what you use it for. If you use it mostly in the car, then I would recommend trying one out first. I converted my old Ipaq to an mp3 player to be used in the car. It worked good for playing the music, but all the controls were on screen. So when I would want to pause it I couldn't feel where the buttons were. So I would be distracted just trying to pause the thing. Where as with my nano, you just grab it and hit pause. After that experience, I can't really see myself going with a touch based mp3 player. I need the feel physical buttons. Just something to be aware of.

If you had the Touch jailbroken there is an app called Pocket Touch, this allows gestures for things like track forward/back (slide left/right) volume up/down (slide up /down) and pause and play(screen tap), a great solution to the problems you mentioned.

QFT! I've owned a Cowon D2 and an iPAQ h1945, and they both use touch screens. A music player that uses a touch screen becomes a pain in the butt if you want to do something simple like skip a song or pause it without being able to look at it (either with it in your pocket or while you are in the car). I'd take a classic iPod or Zune 80 any day of the week over the iPod Touch, but that is all personal preference.

My iPAQ and my cellphone allow me to browse the web on the go. Whenever travel I found it useful to keep myself entertained while at an airport or whatever. My day-to-day routine doesn't benefit at all by having the web on the go to be honest. At first I thought that I would use it all the time, but the novelty wares off pretty quickly.

    • I agree. I also think Phil stayed too long. They should definitely fire whoever thought all a console platform needed was Call of Duty, Elder Scrolls, and Fallout to survive. Asha and crew are still saying they need more Elder Scrolls and Fallout games. They simply don't get it.

    • Mozilla highlights Firefox Nova 2026 redesign and more upcoming features with new roadmap by Sayan Sen Last month Mozilla confirmed that Firefox was set to get a major redesign this year. Dubbed "Project Nova", it can already be tested and will roll out to all users later this year. The idea is to keep the browser competitive in a rapidly evolving internet landscape. As such the revamp focuses on improving privacy, usability, performance, accessibility, and customization. Key privacy features including the built-in VPN, private browsing mode, and Enhanced Tracking Protection, will be more visible and easier to manage, while users will have the option to disable AI features entirely through a dedicated kill switch. Additionally, the redesign promises faster page loading, the return of Compact mode, expanded personalization options, and stronger accessibility support. You can find the full details in the dedicated piece linked above. In a new blog post today the company once again reiterated on Nova and also emphasized other new and upcoming features like the settings revamp that is intended to make it easier for users to understand browser settings. In order to make it simpler for users to keep up with such features Mozilla today is launching Firefox roadmap. Hence enthusiasts and interested users will be able to check out what's cooking and also share feedback about the upcoming additions. Alongside the roadmap announcement, Mozilla also highlighted what's new in Firefox 152. One of the biggest additions is the arrival of Tab Groups on Android. The feature, which has already been helping desktop users organize large numbers of tabs, is now beginning to roll out on mobile. Users will be able to group related tabs together, assign names and colors to them, and return to them later. Mozilla says support for iOS will arrive later this year. Firefox 152 also introduces the aforementioned redesigned Settings experience. The company says the changes are meant to make controls easier to find and help users discover features they may not have previously known about. Existing preferences are not changing, though they are now better organized. Another notable addition is the new Blocked Tracker Widget, which provides a visual overview of Firefox's privacy protections by showing how many trackers have been blocked over time and the types of tracking activity the browser has stopped. Looking ahead, Mozilla revealed several upcoming roadmap features. They include customizable keyboard shortcuts, as well as enhanced PDF editing tools that will allow documents to be split, merged, and reorganized directly within Firefox. The company is also working on bringing Multi-Account Containers into the native Firefox experience thus removing the need for a separate extension. Meanwhile Firefox's built-in VPN is set to expand to mobile devices. Mozilla is also developing AI-powered features like Quick Answers, which can provide concise responses to voice queries, and Smart Window, its optional AI browsing experience that is now available without a waitlist. Finally, a new Power Saving Mode is in the works and will help reduce the impact of resource-heavy tabs on mobile devices in order to extend battery life. The video below summarizes the upcoming changes in an easy to understand format: You can find the announcement blog post here on Mozilla's official website.
    • Dead on arrival at that price. Like they missed the mark by multiple hundreds of dollars - this should actually undercut the Macbook Air at $899 if they want any sort of sales / further adoption of WoA
