Rappy Veteran Posted December 1, 2008 Author Veteran Share Posted December 1, 2008 Tron 2 Renamed I?m not sure how reliable this intel is right now. We?ve passed along information from the subscription trade magazine Production Weekly in the past is reporting that Disney?s Tron sequel has been renamed from the horrible Tr2n to the even worse TRZ. I have an idea, why don?t you call it? Tron 2? or Tron 2.0 Wow. I?m sure the brand and name probably still has value with today?s movie-going public. I?m pretty sure the little kids aren?t going to think it?s cool because its written in ?cool? online abbreviations. Plus, when will companies like Disney realize that when they try to copy a ?cool trend?, it always rubs the X-generation as ?Dad is trying to talk like his kids in gChat.? There is really no reason for the change, but I digress.Production Weekly also has a short plot synopsis: ?After being transported into the surreal landscape of a mainframe computer to destroy an intruder, a programmer finds himself allied with the leader of a rebellion against a corrupt cyber-entity.? The early test footage/trailer shown at comic con featured Jeff Bridges, reprising his role as a programmer named Flynn from the first film, but possibly with a turn to the dark side. If the new plot synopsis is true, this would mean that Flynn is teaming with a new programmer to defend the system from his former friend Tron. Rappy Veteran Posted December 16, 2008 Author Veteran Share Posted December 16, 2008 Olivia Wilde On Board TR2N Fans of Hugh Laurie's House - the TV show, that is, not the actual place where he lives - will have noticed the recent rise of Olivia Wilde, who has played bisexual doctor Thirteen since the fourth season.A fine actress who also happens to be astonishingly beautiful, it was only a matter of time before Hollywood noticed the charms of the 24 year-old. And, lo and behold, today brings word that she's bagged the female lead in TR2N (or, depending on what you read, Tron 2.0), the eagerly-awaited sequel to Tron. Wilde, who'll play a worker in the digital world who helps fight the evil Master Control Program, joins the already-cast Jeff Bridges, who will of course reprise his role as hacker-turned-computer-gladiator, Kevin Flynn/Clu. Beau Garrett has become the third actor to be cast - she'll play a siren in the digital world. Strangely, there's still no word on whether Bruce Boxleitner will return as Tron in the Joseph Kosinski-helmed movie. And news that Disney and Kosinski are screentesting actors to play the youthful male lead does not bode well for the mighty Boxleitner. As for Wilde, eagle-eyed readers will have spotted her in the horror film, Turistas, and she has a role in the upcoming Jack Black comedy The Year One. But TR2N (we much prefer Tron 2.0, on the grounds that it's not confusing) will be by far her biggest role to date. Rappy Veteran Posted April 1, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted April 1, 2009 TRON Sequel Will Be Titled? TRON? What is the title of the Tron sequel? The original test footage that premiered at Comic Con was titled TR2N. Since there have been rumors that the film has been retitled TRON 2.0. But during the Disney presentation at ShoWest, Disney presented a new logo that just read TRON. I tried to scribble the logo design into my notebook and reproduce it quickly in photoshop. Yes, I know it doesn?t look too good, but it?s all I had time for. They showed the same clip shown at comic con in 3D, complete with the old TR2N working logo. Principal photography doesn?t begin for a few weeks. I think consumers will be extremely confused with Disney giving the sequel the same as the original film. I can?t think of any big movie off the top of my head that has done this. This might just be the working title for the film, who knows. Rappy Veteran Posted April 9, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted April 9, 2009 Disney's Tron 2 Also Going to Cost $300 Million to Make?! Who said the economy is hurting Hollywood? A few weeks back we ran article about how the cost of James Cameron's Avatar was pushing $300 million, but that came from a quote in Time which was later disproved by both the writer and Fox. Now today, found within an article in the Vancouver Sun newspaper (via SlashFilm), is this tidbit about the budget of Disney's highly anticiapted Tron 2, which is now shooting. "Vancouver post-production units are salivating at the prospects presented by the Disney remake of Tron, which carries a whopping $300 million budget and opportunities aplenty for effects and digital polish."Are we going to get an update from Disney by the end of the day on this one, too? Fox was very quick to alert us that the budget on Avatar was actually a lot closer to $200 million, not $300. Who knows whether the Vancouver Sun is accurate this time, though, since it's too early to confirm with other sources (it only just started shooting). Above all else, though, is that this isn't bad news by any means. In fact, I'm glad to hear it might have a $300 million budget, because that means Disney is sparing no expense in hopes of really pushing the boundaries of filmmaking like original Tron did in 1982. Sounds like a good decision to me. So why is this news at all then? Well, according to officially released information (see Wikipedia), the most expensive film ever made is still Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End at a cost of $300 million; and in second is Spider-Man 3, which supposedly cost $270 million, even though some say it was closer to $350 million. Besides those two, no other movie has ever crossed the $240 million mark, which means if both Avatar and Tron 2 are indeed at $300 million, then we've got some truly epic movies on the horizon. I do think, however, that this is just a sign of the times just in terms of what goes into a movie these days. What I mean is that with productions like Avatar and Tron 2, they shoot for a few months on expensive sets, but then work on post-production and visual effects for two whole years. As we all know, time is money, and it costs a lot to have a full staff of visual artists working on these projects for years at a time. It's all a sign of our times because movies created by computers are commonplace nowadays, and it just takes a lot of time and a lot of money to develop and use this technology and to pull it off. Rappy Veteran Posted July 22, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted July 22, 2009 Flynn's Arcade Exists? New Viral Game for Tron? Updated! Wow something strange is going on out there. I woke up this morning to find a FedEx package from some address listed in San Diego called PMB. Inside the envelope were two arcade tokens (see above) for the once thought to be mythical Flynn's Arcade. Yep, the very same Flynn's that is the "Home of Tron" from the movie, uh, Tron. If I can put two-and-two together, a San Diego location this week might mean that Disney is doing a little Tron 2 viral marketing at Comic-Con. Sounds good to me! In addition to the tokens, there was also a thumb drive with an image labeled "4.gif" that is a coded animated gif. Check that out below. So after doing some snooping around on the web, I also found out that JoBlo has an image like this as well, but with some different code (not the same stuff above). Some of the code in my image is gibberish - stuff I can't even understand. But on the JoBlo one they actually have some standard HTML code and numbers and so on. As I said, something very strange is going on. This viral is really starting to kick off and I hope we can figure this out before Comic-Con starts up. We'll keep you updated on the progress. It looks like we might have to put a bunch of pieces together and decipher the code? If anyone can help, let us know! Stay tuned! Update: So far I've found the following other viral pieces across the web. From the comments below, we have gif #1, JoBlo has #3, UGO and SlashFilm have #2, I have #4, so we're still missing #5 maybe? Here are those four put together below (pattern goes 1,2,3,4). See anything? I can't make any sense of this code yet? Update #2: Over on MacHeist they deciphered the HTML code from the four gifs above as well as a fifth one from IGN. When the HTML is put together it creates a web page with a table in the middle containing letters and numbers to decipher the message below. When deciphered, it spells out "Flynn Lives." Awesome - but that can't just be it, can it? There might be more - something related to a countdown or location details at Comic-Con? Keep searching - and there might be some websites related to this as well. Have we tried flynnlives.com? Keep up to date in the comments. We'll let you know when hear more! Update #3: Flynn Lives! The website is up and running at flynnlives.com. If you click the little bouncing spider thing at the bottom of the page, a countdown timer pops up (as seen above). We're guessing this counts down to the big event happening on Thursday night in San Diego. The timer counts down to 9:30PM on Thursday, July 23rd. There is a detailing about a "Flynn Lives" movement on the website as well with article clippings about Flynn. This is really starting to get good - an awesome ARG. Definitely check out the site - there seems to be a lot of good info on there! Let us know if you find anything else? Update #4: The last site in this update (as far as we know) until Thursday night is homeoftron.com. This URL comes from the engraving on the arcade tokens that we first received. A quick glance around the site and it provides info on Flynn's old arcade from the original Tron movie but not much more. That's all for now folks - but of course let us know what you find! There may have more secrets - be on the lookout! Rappy Veteran Posted July 23, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted July 23, 2009 First thing you need to know is the sequel to Tron will be called TRON LEGACY. It is the first time that the title has been revealed. Here are some main Tron points to share with you. The movie is basically about a sons search for his father. Everything is going to be superized according to Jeff Bridges. Meaning it will be just as great and incredible as the first film when it came out. The world of Tron has been evolving on it?s own for the last 20 years. it is much darker now. Revealed some new photos of The Recognizer, which looks great and some the city shots. The overall design of the film will be similar to the original but the world is so much more elaborate and bigger. The gladitorial Tron games have evolved as well, and Disc Wars has gotten huge. It will now include 16 contestants battling against each other. And the new design?s for the arena are amazing! They showed some test footage with how the disc wars will take place, and how the contestants will move, and it looks absolutely insane! They used a crazy type of martial arts and it just looked physically imposible, yet here these guy?s are doing it with no specail effects and no wires. They are using the Phantom camera which films a 1000 frames per second, and this is the first time it will be implemented in a 3-D film, so you have that to look forward to. The Light Runner will carry two passengers, and can move off the grid and it looks great! The new lightcycle design looks freakin awesome! It is the original basic design but updated to look completely bad-freakin ass! They also showed us a short non 3-D clip from the film of Flynn?s son as he enters into Flynn?s arcade. He turns on the power and all of the games light up and turn on. He is looking around most of the time, then sees the game Tron at the end of the arcade. He walks over and puts a quarter in to play. The quarter falls to the floor and he notices some grooves in the floor. He is curious so he moves the game out of the way of the of the wall, and steps into a room behind it. The arcade game closes behind him, and fade to black. Then they showed us the same footage that we got to see last year at Comic-Con except this time is was in 3-D! And it was awesome! I wish they would have showed some more footage of the film, but what we saw looks absolutely incredible! I am really excited for all of you guys to see some of this stuff, because it all looks great. I can not wait to see the final product of Tron Legacy! Ironman273
Another review of the trailer. We finally saw some new footage from Tron Legacy, the new Tron movie. And it was totally worth waiting a year for: Kinetic, delirious and full of light-cycle brilliance. Spoilery descriptions below. It's been a full year since Disney surprised us and blew our minds with a surprise glimpse of the Tron sequel we didn't even know was coming. Now, for the first time, we got to see some actual scenes from the movie, and it fully uploaded us into the cyber-world. First Clip: We see Flynn's Arcade from the outside. A voice-over says, "I said I would tell you if I heard anything about your father. I just got a call from the arcade. That number's been disconnected for 20 years." Sam Flynn drives up on his bike and unlocks the front door of the arcade. The Flynn's set is recreated perfectly, we even see the couch in Flynn's apartment upstairs, covered in bed sheets. The arcade is dark, but one machine is obviously on in the back. As Daft Punk plays, Sam walks to the back past the tarped machines. He pulls the tarp off the final game and it is on, clearly labeled "TRON." Sam starts to put a coin in the machine, but drops it. As he goes to pick it up, he notices a scratch in the tile floor. On a hunch, he pulls the TRON cabinet out and discovers a secret passage behind the machine. Sam walks into the passage and the machine ominously slides back into position, closing the door. Lightcycle test footage: We see a city inside the computer. Everything is black, with buildings and blocks outlined with a faint blue glow. We see the Blue Guy, hiding behind one of the blocks from an aerial searchlight. Suddenly, he leaps out and a blue lightcycle digitally appears beneath him in mid-air. The lightcycle is black and glossy, with blue lines, and leaves a translucent blue stripe behind it, very much an updated version of the movie's lightcycle color trail. He is immediately pursued by a guy on an identical lightcycle, except the lines on his outfit and cycle are light green. They drive off toward the distant city, with the cycles dodging objects and driving down stairs. The Blue Guy spots a narrow passageway through a mountain and drives for it. The Green Guy doesn't respond quickly enough, and tiny batwings shoot out of his cycle, bringing it to a stop (Who knew drag resistance existed in computers?). The Blue Guy continues through the tunnel and comes out on the other side, heading for the bridge that will take him into the city. But the Green Guy heads him off at the pass, and the cycles crash with a boom that physically shook everyone in the room. The boom is also loud enough to shake Kevin Flynn, who opens his eyes in another part of the computer. Where the other characters' features are obviously animated, he looks normal, and is dressed completely in white and sits in an unnaturally white room. He watches as the two battle, apparently walking toward a window. When the Blue Guy is knocked to the ground, the Green Guy pulls out his disc and the Blue Guy protests, "but it's only a game." The Green Guy reveals his face and responds, with a smirk, "Not anymore." Rappy Veteran Posted July 24, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted July 24, 2009 Disney finally revealed the title to the Tron sequel at the Disney 3D panel at Comic-Con 2009 ? TRON Legacy. Jeff Bridges explains that the title is in reference to the story?s theme: ?It?s basically a story about a son?s search for his father. It was also revealed that Tron Legacy will be released in both Digital Disney 3D (old news) and IMAX 3D (new news). Disney surprised nearly everyone by premiering a teaser trailer for the project (which was actually a test created to convince Disney not make the film) at last year?s Comic Con. The footage was easily the most talked about thing of last year?s con. The Tron crew returned to Hall H this year, but unfortunately weren?t able to live up to their last appearance. That is not to say that what we saw of the film was not impressive, it is just they didn?t have a lot to show since the film just wrapped production and they have a year of post productio ?And the first Tron, when we made it in 81, there was no internet,? explained Jeff Bridges. ?Cell phones were things you carried around in a suit case, and what you saw was so new and fresh, and the same thing is true with this one.?true with this one.? Disney has released TRON is a 3D high-tech adventure set in a digital world that?s unlike anything ever captured on the big screen. Sam Flynn (GARRETT HEDLUND), the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn (JEFF BRIDGES), looks into his father?s disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years. Along with Kevin?s loyal confidant (OLIVIA WILDE), father and son embark on a life-and-death journey across a visually-stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous.ced and exceedingly dangerous. Because none of the footage from inside the computer world was finished, they premiered some cool concept images from the production. Art included the recognizer, which is a bit evolved from the original film. The world of tron has been sitting on a server for 20 years, not connected to the internet, evolvoing. The scale is much larger, ?a photo real or photo surreal enviorment.? We were shown a shot of the mile high tower in the center of the city, which we?re sure is an important location in the film?s plot. Another piece showed a scene on the streets of tron city, where we get to see what its like to be a program in this world. A few concept photos were shown of Disc wars, which has also evolved from the original film into a 16-game tournament. The arena is set-up so that the game court organically evolves. All 16 games are going on at the same time, and the boards combine in real time, until the last two Disc warriors are connected. We were shown some test footage of an athlete who uses a form of martial arts athleticism I?ve never seen before called luke kicking or tricking. The disc warrior was jumping around doing insane flips while chucking a disc. Very impressive. The footage was shown in super slow motion, having been shot with the phantom camera in 3D (a first) at 1000 (?) frames a second. Light Runner, which is like a light cycle, but can hold 2 passengers. It is said to be very fast, and has the unique ability to go off the grid on its own power. The Light Cycle: a much more evolved version of the light cycle which many saw in the trailer from last year?s con. [img Second Generation Light Cycle:g[/img] Second Generation Light Cycle: Designed in 1989 by Kevin Flynn and ?rumor has it its still the fastest thing on the grid? It looks like an inbetween model in the evolution of light cycles, incorporating some of the look of the first film and the realness and slickness of the new design. What got me excited was footage from a rough assembly of a scene from the begining of the film, which takes place in the real world, and was not presented in 3D. The scene involved Kevin?s son being told in voiceover that someone received a page from his father?s old office, which has been abandoned for over 20 years. Flynn?s son shows up on a motor cycle. Flynn?s arcade has been long abandoned. He opens the door to reveal a room full of arcade machines, all covered with sheets. He inspects the old shut down arcade, and it is clear no one has been here in ages. He switches on the power and all the arcades turn on, as does a jukebox, which is playing retro 1980?s music. He goes up stairs to Flynn?s old office, which also looks untouched, everything covered. The next shot was kinda magical. He walks down an isle of games which ends with the Tron arcade game. He uncovers it and we see the retro 80?s graphics. He sticks in a quarter but the machine rejects it. He pulls out the machine to take a look at the back, and discovers a secret door. He opens the door and enters the darkness. Cut to black. Director Joseph Kosinski promises that the film has ?3 or 4 things that have never been done before, and we were doing them at the same time.? He promises that next year at comic con ?you?ll see something you?ve never seen before.? They also showed the Tron 2 trailer from last year?s con in 3D, which everyone seemed most impressed with.
