‘The competition is weaker than PS3’, agrees European boss Reeves

SCEE President David Reeves has joined the debate over who ‘won’ E3 – stating that the platform holder is in confident mood after SCEA boss Jack Tretton took to the stage at the LA Expo last week.

“I think from what Jack Tretton said, the reaction has been well summarised by Yahoo, who said that in terms of games, the competition have probably got a slightly weaker line–up than PS3,” he told MCV.

“And we obviously agree with that – we think we’ve got title after title after title, not only first party but third party and I think in America they have the advantage of the video downloads service, which came at exactly the right time. “We’re confident, but not only that we’re confident about the games industry more than anything else. What we should be celebrating is how well the games industry is doing compared to other industries in the last nine months with the current recession worldwide. More and more people are coming in – it’s astounding.”

I have to disagree. The PS3 recently lost FFXIII exclusivity (is that a word?), and Resident Evil 5 has been announced as multi-platform for a while now. And those are huge titles. Besides Resistance 2, I can't think of any big exclusive title for the PS3 coming out in the near future that will set it above and beyond the Wii or 360. Although I'm sure I'll be flamed...I mean "corrected"...by the fanboys in a minute.

In retrospect, they may be pretty dumb comments, but do we really expect high ranking sony employees to say otherwise?

Bill Gates will always say the latest windows is the "Best Ever"

Steve Jobs will always say the latest iCrap is "Best Ever"

I could go on

Exactly, anyone who listens to this marketing bs needs their brains testing :p

Sony can't really get over the fact that even the tiny Wii is kicking the PS3's ass

Nintendo is making money like crazy with the DS and Wii and they will be well funded for the next gen war.

Specially Steve Jobs Just Watch This Video

God, they are an embarrassment.

All sales/business men/women are, it's not just Sony! They should all learn to shut the hell up and let the hardware/games do the talking.

Truly embarrassing is something like this :- http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3446931931514285011

Quite the favourite quotes when we play BF:BC

"Giant enemy tank!" "Real time weapon change and attack it's weak point for MASSIVE DAMAGE!"

Good times :p

That was bad as well, I knew one of you would post it up so I didn't bother :)

I still think the Steve Ballmer one is by far the worst.

Steve is just mental. I don't think anyone would deny it

Sony's PR is just full of epic fail though. One embarassment after another!

That was so funny, you said Massive Damage then I said, Don't forget Real Time weapon switching , then you said 'hold on switching now' then I think Sethos said Giant Enemy Tank!

Sony really do need to just shut up and get on with the games. At this rate, its all talk and no action!

LOL @ Steve Balmer, did he take a few Red Bulls before going on the stage :s!

Because hate Sony is the latest "fad", perhaps they should get a reality distortion field like Steve Jobs does where he can announce the 2nd iteration of a product that has all the features the original should have had and has everyone bleating like sheep.

What he said is absolutely ludacris, that's how it's embarassing.

What do you expect him to turn round and say "Yeah our games lineup sucks, everyone stole our exclusives, you might as well buy a 360"?

Jesus use your common sense, he is the CEO of SCEA he WILL say that HIS console has the best games lineup.

Somebody with some sense, finally!

Sony seem to have a fair few games up their sleeves as well, so their line-up could drastically change over the coming months.

I still think the PS line up is better than the other consoles, it's all down to personal opinion at the end of the day. MS have 2 games coming to the 360 that I want (Fable2, GoW2), nothing else.

No, we expect them to shut up.

Sony has used up all of their life lines when it comes to embarrassing and incorrect statements.

    • For a guy who claims to hate Farage and the ignorant, gullible, rightwing racist skinheads sponsored by Putin that his lies represent, you sure are quoting them time and time and time again, mate. I guess you're conveniently ignoring the fact that your country and commonwealth just happened to work much better when it was still part of the E.U.? Denial isn't just a river in Egypt.
    • Do you live in the U.K? Do any of the people here that are against the UK leaving the E.U, live in the U.K? If not then why are you bothered? If you do live here then it is a different thing . Brexit was a good idea, should have done it years before, it was done badly, but the idea was good. You are saying the same thing as remainers do, oh we did what Putin wanted, we listened to the lies and Farage. I hate Farage and never believed most of what he said, certainly did not believe the £350m a week for the NHS. But we did pay a lot of money to the E.U and yes some of it came back, but what is the point of paying it out for only some of it to come back? Get out of the E.U, no money to them and in theory we can use the money to do things in the country. I said in theory, but our governments are a total and complete waste of space. No matter what colour rosette they wear. You and others say it was a mistake and yet the two main parties in the U.K are not looking at rejoining the EU, I wonder why that is? I was not tricked by anyone. Makes no odds now, we are out and have been for 10 years, what we need is a decent government to run the country. All they do is shout at each other like a load of kids and seems to do nothing and make this country more into a police and nanny state. Getting more like China all the time.

    • Yeah... The root of my comment, ostensibly, is how to spin the story via the actual technical merits of the solution! * Decentralized (aka federated) solution with built-in encrypted ephemeral message transport, * Transport via Relays (intermediary servers) with no message archival, * Second configurable pathway are actual email servers (if DNS records are programmed accordingly) via IMAP protocols carriage, * "Chat-over-Email" is the design pattern adopted; it can either leverage full-blown Email Server (must use the INBOX folder) to exchange all received messages/edits/reactions (so be weary of notifications overloads) [best practice is creating a separate email acct used explicitly for federated chat purposes!] or leverage its built-in Relay Server mechanism which actually resides on-device (by default but can be configured otherwise), * By virtue of be a decentralized/federated model, all other intermediary servers who may pass-along messages (while the recipient's final relay/device is inaccessible) cannot snoop on the messages due to the encrypted nature of contents. The intermediaries may, however, analyze the metadata due to the simple fact that routing mechanisms require hints for relay destinations. Unfortunately, whomever is posting about DeltaChat across socials are misleading with "zero metadata" claims -- especially when the Relays (according to their own technical documents) mandate the addition of chat-version metadata and other decorations in order to actually transport any message. -- Based on this summary, I'd prefer if they'd better dual-path message transport (email server add-in, federated relay engine) rather than patch-on email protocols to existing federated social media frameworks. They're frankensteining something rather than extending widely-deployed technology stacks.
