Windows ME : Unable to access certain websites

clear the cache and try to go to google again, i'm betting it won't work

back in the days of WinME whenever i lost internet connection i could still get to yahoo.com and google.com because it was sitting in cache but i couldn't get to any other web pages. i had to reboot and make the modem work again

but the info you gave us (or probably he gave you) is too little. try going to other webpages. try pinging some servers. try restarting the modem. restart the computer. install firefox to see if it's malware messing with IE. do a virus scan, etc.

there are tons of things you can do, but none of them are guaranteed to work unless you give more info on the problem

Your the only one helping him? This is sad! See how most of the users stay off topic. Good advice PermaSt0ne.

why on god's green earth would anybody still be using windows 98' or me ?
Seriously, ME? I'm suprised anything works. Switch it up for gods sake.
oh my goodness ; I saw this topic and thought it was a joke :p

time to upgrade to an NT kernel OS!

There is no excuse to still run Windows ME.
What is this "Windows ME" that you speak of? I know not of any product between 98 and XP </sarcasm>
id say go with linux xubuntu and get rid of me totally.

my god i criticize people for still being with xp over vista or 7 beta but man please move on from 2000, me & 98'.

i saw "windows ME" and just had to stop by.
Maybe the internets decided that they should forbid people from using Windows ME?

But it does sound like the modem is at fault here.

You people need to shut the **** up.

He chooses to use Windows ME because he either wants to or can't afford to a new OS. Help him out.

OnT: Id do like someone suggested and ping other sites, ping your router and see what results those give.

From your words it seem there is , no issue with the internet connectivity ,as google is working .

Try to open the internet explorer , Go to Tools > internet options > advance > and click on the reset button .

It may solve your issue .

Hi,

I have a friend who is still running Windows ME.

He has recently just started having problems with his broadband connection. He is on Orange Broadband and using a speedtouch 330 modem.

He is unable to access any websites. He can get to Google, but any link from Google = nothing - Page cannot be displayed.

I have brought the computer come and linked to my router - All works fine.

Any ideas? I have even tried reinstalling the speedtouch software. I have taken my laptop to his house and cannoted the modem to my laptop. All works fine on that too.....

Thanks

Try software network troobleshoting or maybe upgrade to windows 2000sp4 professional eddition.or try internet options settings.security zone.

    • I haven't paid for windows since windows 8. So I guess I would be happy to pay for a new version if it meant seeing fewer adverts (none) or product pushes. But that applies to _any_ service or OS.
    • Save 35% on Sony's SS-CS5M2 3-way high-res bookshelf speakers by Taras Buria Sony is currently offering a big discount on its SS-CS5M2 bookshelf speaker, saving you 35% on a set of high-quality audio equipment. The SS-CS5M2 is a passive 3-way bookshelf speaker with a 5.12-inch woofer, a 25 mm soft-dome tweeter, and a 19 mm super tweeter. This design allows different drivers to handle different parts of the sound spectrum for a clearer, more detailed audio when watching movies or listening to music. The compact cabinet size allows you to place these speakers on shelves, desks, or stands, making them a practical choice for apartments, bedrooms, and small living rooms. Despite its compact size, the SS-CS5M2 delivers up to 100 W of power. Note that since the speakers are passive, you will need an amplifier to drive them. However, if you do, you can use them for high-resolution music, thanks to a claimed frequency response of 53 Hz - 50 kHz. It is able to extend so far high in the spectrum as a result of those super tweeters. While they will work with most amplifiers and AV receivers, Sony says this pair is a perfect match for its AV receivers, such as STRDH190, 590, 790, or 1000. • So they somehow expect Apple to easily make it so that if I install say DeepSeek that DS can then handle all the tasks that Siri would be doing while integrated in the OS? That sounds like just rediculous.
    • For ray-tracing, the Radeon RX 9070 XT is better than the GeForce RTX 5070, but worse than the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti The Radeon RX 9070 XT is similar to the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti in rasterization Both AMD and NVIDIA have had serious issues with drivers in the past, so I can't say that one is better or worse than the other. Yes. AMD has better support Linux than does NVIDIA. Use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to uninstall NVIDIA's drivers before installing AMD's drivers. That's up to you.
