When did I say something was wrong? I love it! If approved by Gigatexel, I really hope you go for it.

:shifty: <- Because of that :) looks kinda sarcastic to me. Sorry just misunderstood.

I'll take a look at it tonight when I finish work, but I already do have some ideas how to make it flexible and update friendly.

Funny you should mention a Delphi installer... while it won't meet the strict requirements I think are needed, I've been using Inno Setup by Jordan Russell for what seems like years.

Well a good scripter can do magic with InstallShield Developer 8, but since I'm not that good with InstallShield (I always use the express version) that ain't an option for me.

I am a good Delphi programmer though (made a MSN Messenger client, and a Radeon tweaker (Radeonator) for example). So basicly what I can do is make an installer especially made for Classix.

It will give me the option to make the looks exactly how I (or Gigatexel for that matters) want it. Plus I can make it very flexible so updating is a matter of draggin and dropping some extra folders and edit a simple INI file.

It will probably take me some weeks to make such a thing, but I have some time right now... so if that isn't a problem, then I'm willing to make such a thing.

One thing though, like I said it is gonna take a while.... so basicly I would be kinda ******ed of if when I finish this in let's say 3 weeks and it turns out that suddenly some other person drag 'n dropped an InstallShield/Wise/Inno Setup installer which makes mine obsolete.

So I must know if there is a demand for this or not, but I guess you understand that. I'm not gonna put my time in this if in the end no-one is gonna use it.

Fine with me too.

EDIT: seems I can't do it anyways. I was offered a pretty interesting project today (webgraphics, 3d modelling).... so it looks like that is taking up my time in the next couple of weeks. Maybe later...

I'm not very familiar with the NSIS installer beyond the basics and what I've seen in the relatively few very simple installers that I've seen employ it.

So by your, beeboo, comments I'm assuming it allows for each component to be installed to a specific directory specified by the end-user at the time the installer is run (run-time)? This is probably one of the most important requirements as I'm sure most of us don't place everything in the same places (such that I have all my wallpapers in one directory).

Does it also allow for web installs, in such that it can download the most recent copy of a particular file/component for installation?

I'm going to check out the features of it anyhow, just wondered if you or anyone else knew the answers to these two questions off-hand.

Edit: Here's the link to the Nullsoft "SuperPimp" Install System (NSIS), for those that are involved and want to take a look over it. Seems that they've added some features since the last time I used it. Just might work...

Yep, I believe it can do both those things, but getting it to do web-install could require a bit of work. I'm pretty sure I've seen at least one installer use NSIS and do web install

* beeboo checks...

Yep:

Phoenix Installer

The 3rd party install program for the Phoenix browser has a web installer in beta... So it's at least do-able.

I haven't used NSIS very much, but like I said in my first post, you can get a basic installer up and running in at least an hour or two.

I'm sure making a separate program like Classix Updater wouldn't be too hard to do in any coding language. I think I'm gonna get into VB .Net soon (start with the basics (I think :p )). I'm sure making something start on launch, connect to a central server (or choosing a mirror to connect to) to check for updates shouldn't be THAT hard, should it? Maybe I'm sounding dumb here, so I'll stop. :p

@ snively - This is the correct display for a default button, no need to worry. For the most part, if the theme looks a certain way, that's the way it was intended to appear. The theme itself is rather mature from a development standpoint and there are very few bugs left. Those that do remain are either related to items that occur rarely or a trivial in nature.

@ aitf311 - It's doubtful any of the colors will be changed. gigatexel has stated a few times already that he doesn't want to have to go back and change any after having to do so with the Black color scheme. I agree the orange is a tad bright, however these are the colors that were choisen and from what I understand they most likely will not be changing.

Due to time constraints on my part I've had to set some priorities as far as my design work goes, sadly the Classix web site is one of the first on the chopping block so to speak. However if gigatexel still wants a site created, I would be more than willing to provide the space and any work I've completed thus far (basically a rough Photoshop design) to whomever might pick up the task.

Apologies all around for the delay and now this.

Hmm...

Oh, BTW, I've picked up my Step-by-Step book for Visual Basic and I've started to teach myself. I could create an installer pretty soon. A Web Updater would come second.
