Mozilla reveals the Firefox of the future?

Recommended Posts

wow, the media could warp anything into anything else couldn't they!

"Mozilla has unveiled a spectacular new concept browser, dubbed Aurora. "

no they didn't. It's one concept designed by some third party for Mozilla Labs, out of what will be thousands of concepts (since the initiative just started). It's not even official...The accurate news coverage was posted just yesterday, and now there's some website spewing bull**** already. Kinda like the whole midori crap.

I like the concept, but I don't like forcing pseudo 3d onto 2d desktops, it's typically useless eye candy, and making thumbnails out of everything doesn't always translate to better usability.

Not to mention, I see some Sony XMB influences in the bookmarks demo.

Seems more suited to touch-based applications IMO.

You all have to remember that this is still in the planning stage. It is not ready for prime time. If and when this product is produced then slam it. What I have read here is what Edison probably heard.

It's a bit past planning, since they've decided to show it off to the public.

This video is meant to generate excitement about the idea. It's a crappy idea that's been tried and failed before.

As for the other part of this story, Mozilla Labs. Geez, a browser with their own "labs" website, where have I heard that before...

Maybe so but it is far from being in an Alpha stage. BTW: House is the best show on TV! (Y)

When she pans back to the crowded desktop, the line "It's gotta be here somewhere" sums up the shortcomings of this conceptual piece. Information should be intuitively sorted and organized, not pandered to by fancy graphical interfaces and pretty icons.

Strangely I found a website, yesterday, for music player with a pretty similar concept:

http://www.formater.de/

It's an interesting concept. Even though it looks pretty messy, I 'd have to sit down with it for a while to see how well it functions. But overall I don't see an advantage this has over the present interface.

from ss looks pretty stupid. what's so wrong with wanting a simple browser with tabs and being able to bookmark and search alright on it's own. it's simple to the point and does the job we don't need fancy user interfaces and integrated clutter on the desktop and floaty thumbnails and all this sort of useless rubbish no matter how intuitive it may seem it doesn't do mainly what people are after to do what browsers do best which is simply browsing the web! not integrating into this that and the other and looking fancy or whatever.

"It's gotta be here somewhere!"

Thats the one line that got my attention and then to find it she resorted to just doing a search. Not a good line to include when trying to sell a new interface and resorting to a search doesn't help to make the UI look any cleaner either.

Yeah, I've got mixed thoughts on it.

Firstly, a wow is in order because it is something that I would love to use, but on that note, it's not something that I would love to use all the time because of what everyone has mentioned, it looks way too complicated to use as your primary web browser.

Nevertheless, excellent concept and probably a great application for someone who would be willing to learn and get to use it.

the concept is much more adapted to a full fledged system GUI than a browser. I don't get this trend for people to try and cram everything into a browser, even the stuff it's not supposed to touch with a 10ft pole.

    • Why say “Retarded” then? Lol
    • If you don't care to read what I said, then you prove my point. Maybe written media is beyond your attention span. Titles are not summaries my friend.
    • Nobody asked... in fact, I said "I don't care about political leanings"
    • TLDR. Here is a far better title (just a basic example): Windows 11 26H2 to allow disabling Web search results
