Win 98 Problems

Hi...im kinda new to this forum...im trying to open folders in the 'My documents' section on my pc but i keep getting the message that it cannot open and to type in the path of the folder...im not sure what that means?..My pc is running Win 98...can anyone please help?...Thanks

Best chance is to boot the system with a Window ME boot diskette. (make one in ADD/REMOVE programs) and see if you can use DOS to find out what is going on. Start by going to the C:\Windows\TEMP folder and removing all the TEMP files and folder. This may help remove somethings. Or you can use winmend system doctor to fix these system errors.

Another choice, using DOS commands, you should be able to look at the C:\MYDOCU~1 directory and see if you can find her documents. If they are not too big, you should be able to COPY them to a blank diskette(s) and check them on your system.

right click My Documents icon and hit Properties. tell me what the Target line says

and while you are on that machine, go to My Computer, then the C: drive, then the My Documents folder in there. if you find the stuff you are looking for, then the default My Docs was changed by somebody at an earlier time

if you have User Profiles set up (login box with more than one name) then you should try going to C:\Windows\Profiles and looking in the folders in there

you might just for the hell of it try a ScanDisk - Start > Shutdown > Restart in MS-DOS Mode

then once you are there, type scandisk and hit enter and let it scan, and see if any errors come up
