32GB ???

32bit limit you to 4GB or after all address go cut you will be limited with 3.2gb

PAE gives you an extra 4 bits to swap pages around with, effectively giving you 2^36, or 64 gigabytes of memory. But there is a tiny performance penalty, I believe, as you didn't just make the processor a 36-bit processor, you've introduced swapping between pages of memory.

I just bought a new laptop (Only 749 Dollars) with a 2.0 ghz dual core and 4 gigs of ram and vista 64 runs great on it, I have yet to use a pc where vista has not been fast, even my old p4 machine. i don't know what the hell you guys do to your vista installations but all mine run smoothly.

Lightroom is a fully 64-bit application, as is XCode, Mathematica--yes, they take advantage of 64-bit addressing and the increased registers. And no, it's not some jumbled 32 and 64-bit mode. (a 64-bit process can't load 32-bit plugins, etc. )

Right, but giga, the main problem with Apple's implementation is that it's still using the IA32 instruction set. The x86_64 (AMD64/EM64T) instruction set is better and faster.

Eventually, Apple will have to switch over to the x86_64 instruction set. Unfortunately, that process will be ugly for the original Intel Mac owners, as the Core Duo's are only 32-bit.

Are you talking about the kernel? Snow Leopard's kernel has both x86 and x86_64 architecture instructions.
