Here's what I use:

  • Canon EOS 450D / Digital Rebel XSi (camera) + accessory kit
  • Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens Kit
  • Canon EF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 II USM Lens
  • Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens

Here's what I chose:

Digital SLR >> Canon >> Brick and Mortar Stores

- Olympus E-510 DSLR camera.

- Zuiko Digital 14-42mm F3.5-5.6

- Zuiko Digital 40-150mm F4-5.6

- Zuiko 50mm F1.8

- Zuiko 50mm F1.4

- Sunpak Auto 383 Flash (GN36).

- SanDisk Extreme IV 4GB 266x CF.

- Lexar Porfessional 1GB 133x CF.

- Kingston 2GB 66x CF.

- Olympus 512MB xD (H)

- HOYA HMC 49mm close up filters set (3+, 2+, 1+).

- Tiffen 58mm close up filters set (4+, 2+, 1+).

- Tiffen 49mm UV filter.

- DIGIAL 58mm Polarize filter.

- DIGIAL 58mm FLD filter.

- DIGIAL 58mm UV filter.

- Batteries, tripods, shutter release cable, etc :)

I prefer brick and mortar stores, but the price difference generally ends up being big enough that I can't justify it.

I bought my 580EX II at a Hunts Camera, and they discounted it for me, but I still paid $40 more than Amazon...that's with a massive discount. Before the discount it was $110 more than Amazon.

Some of the lenses at Hunts cost >$150 more than Amazon.

Looks like I'm the only one who said 35mm SLR, although I am surprised someone else said 35mm compact even I cant say thats my No.1 system although high end 35mm compacts are great because the frame size means you can get DSLR quality from a tiny little camera, although many film compacts negate this advantage because of Crappy Zooms, films or processing.
