Halo 4 to be Launch Title for Next Generation Xbox?

Recommended Posts

UK, August 26, 2008 - Master Chief's next big outing could herald the launch of the next generation of consoles, with rumour abound that Halo 4 is to be amongst the first wave of titles for the Xbox 360's follow-up console.

Alluded to in the latest issue of Official Xbox Magazine, which has been thumbed by Joystiq, Gearbox are said to be working on the fourth instalment proper in the bestselling series. Gearbox's own Randy Pitchford ? currently doing the rounds extolling the virtues of the studio's imminent Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway ? was recently quoted as saying of the company's next project, "When you find out what this is, you'll likely agree that I can't oversell this one."

Gearbox is also currently at work on Aliens: Colonial Marines, a full-blooded first person take on the film series that's proved such a rich inspiration for the Halo universe.

No way man, no way, not a launch title, Halo 2 and 3 were all about the giant launch day and huge sales, if it's console launch they'll sell a load, but as the launches this generation have proved there won't be enough consoles out for launch so it won't make the big numbers the media loves.

Although if they make a super legendary edition were I get a Warthog, we can talk :)

Does it matter? It's not like you can't get any launch 360 or PS3 games any more, if you want it, you'll get it.

I'll take this information with a huge pinch of salt, but it wouldn't surprise me if Halo 4 was a launch title for the next console (whenever that may be, not any time soon I'll bet).

Warthog has gear problems man ... the transmission blew ... as for halo4 and MC ... pffff .. come on man .. MC is with cortana in some god forsaken reality making babies and all the aliens went back and created another god of some sorts ...

earth is well ... more polluted than ever and about to blow up in a fallout type disaster

i am sure by then there will be other games that will get people more excited ... if not oh well

I suppose that means halo wars is ****ed as well, then?

It's just a franchise, guys, look at how well Call of Duty has done being split between two developers. Don't write it off just because it's a different team, especially since we don't even know if this is true, let alone anything about the bloody thing.

no bungie?

no thanks.

btw McSmiggins is 100% right, a big game like a halo game deserves its own day and a huge already established user base. oh and halo 4 will still sell like mad even if bungie is not involved. the average gamer doesnt even know who bungie are AND halo isnt called a media phenomenon for nothing! lol

Gearbox has done pretty well with Brothers in Arms, and provided they stick to the Halo Bible (which I'm sure they will, after all, I doubt they want to risk losing fans for the sake of going off canon) it'll all be good. This could indeed be that rumoured Halo game based off the novel set before Halo 1, which if true, would be great. It'll attract those current Halo fans, and new fans who (somehow) haven't played any of the other games yet can give it a shot without feeling completely lost. The thing is, the past 2 Xboxes have had pretty abysmal launches, with very few (or no) decent titles to actually launch with. With the 360 being very popular this generation, they have a great chance of not losing any of that steam by launching Halo 4 with the next xbox.

They should release Halo 4, but we are as the covenant trying to kill master chief. :D

They should call it: Halo: Revenge is a Bit** :D

Or they could completely ruin it by calling it HALO 4: COMEBACK OF THE COVENANT

...I can't believe I just did that :(

Speak for yourself, there was plenty of games at the immediate launch and months after I wanted and was very happy with

Do you guys seriously worry that Gearbox has been given the reins, seeing where Bungie went with Halo 2 and 3? Maybe passing off development isn't that big of a deal. I mean, I'll admit that it surprised me at first to see the word Gearbox in there, but Gearbox doesn't have the worst track record when it comes to making games, either.

The only trouble I'll have getting past the development switch is the feeling that this is not where the story was meant to go, since it is not the original creators doing the story writing (although, we still don't know that there won't be collaboration between the two companies). Of course, this is a problem I have with any title that switches hands. For example, Far Cry 2; except that game looks to be shaping up pretty well, even though it seems to go in a different direction than the original game. Or a game like Fear, where the expansion packs, developed by another company, are now being ignored from the series canon now that the sequel to that game is coming out, too.

Maybe I phrased that badly. There *were* good games, but outside of Call of Duty and Perfect Dark Zero, there were no big name sequels or highly wanted titles. That's not to say there weren't some gems that came out of the launch, but you have to admit, a big name like Halo leading the launch has a lot more pulling power then any of the other titles. It's the equivalent to Nintendo launching Zelda: Twilight Princess on the Wii launch, really.

Anyone but Bungie = FAIL. Hopefully Frankie keeps a tight whip on their asses.

Considering most of the original Bungie dev team left before Halo 2 you should be writhing in pain from the new games.

Didn't Gearbox do the PC conversion of Halo? I'm fairly sure they did anyway. This also might be a god send for PC Halo fans, since it will most likely be Gearbox doing the conversion it [the PC version] might come out sooner (I wouldn't say the same time, as MS would have them sign a timed exclusivity agreement). Just a thought.

:sigh: can halo die yet? the 360 is still <3yrs old right? there's got to be at least 2 more years in it, no?

That depends if MS want to beat Sony and Nintendo to the punch for the next gen. Considering MS have been working on the Xbox Next for sometime now, I wouldn't be surprised if it showed up in the next year or two and don't forget the Xbox 1 had it's life cut short for the 360, it could happen again. Personally I hope it's at least 2 years away but at the end of the day I don't make that decision, MS does (well I think more acurately, the shareholders do :p). Well that is what I think, take with a grain of salt.

    • Good. I hope more people sue them for focusing on this worthless junk.
    • How about fire the guy who approved all the bad decisions? The guy who bought these studios in the first place? Oh wait, Satya is safe with his billions while the workers pay the price.
    • This had nothing to do with games. This is all about management wanting to squeeze as much money from Xbox to keep Microsoft's AI ambitions afloat. Someone has to make money to burn on AI.

The Ultra 9 185H features 16 cores and 22 threads running at up to 5.1 GHz. It also includes a dedicated NPU utilizing Intel AI Boost at 11 TOPS. On the graphics front, the 185H includes the still fairly capable ARC Graphics (not to be confused with the newer ARC 140T) integrated GPU with a max GPU frequency of 2350 MHz across 8 Xe-cores. It has been said that the iGPU is equivalent to the NVIDIA GeForce 3050 and GTX 1650 in gaming and synthetic benchmarks. Other highlights include an AMOLED display, LPDDR5x memory at 7467 MT/s, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, and a fingerprint sensor built into the power button. AI PC? Although the Intel Core Ultra 9 185H includes a dedicated NPU, it's only 11 TOPS; therefore, it does not qualify as a Copilot+ PC. However, it can reach up to 33 TOPS with a combination of NPU, CPU, and GPU. As I said, although we only reviewed the X14 Pro, the unboxing is the same for the X16 Pro, which I noted in my review. The packaging is quite a nice experience. The outer box houses the X16 Pro box with a small compartment that contains the 5-in-1 Dock ($40 value), which appears to be an "Early Bird" inclusion. Upon removing the box cover, the X16 Pro is revealed sitting in a cardboard compartment with two small booklets of documentation. To the left of the X16 Pro are two cardboard compartments containing the 65W charger and Type-C USB cable.
