Halo 4 to be Launch Title for Next Generation Xbox?

Big as halo? Half-life? Doom? Quake? Wolfenstein?

All of those are already in development and previously announced (except Quake according to Carmack, unless you count Quake Like as "new").

And fanboy or not, the only real contender out of those is Half Life. The others won't sell anywhere near / cause as much excitment etc as Halo. Kidding yourself if you think otherwise. This isn't the 80's/90's anymore ;)

I dunno, she is hired after all to write code, not English :p

Maybe it's different in other parts of the world, but where I was raised, I learned where to put my apostrophes before I wrote my first hello world application ;)

I wasn't speculating on which titles they could possibly be working on, I was simply pointing out that Halo isn't the only FPS franchise out there that could cause such a fuss and that point still stands, regardless to your or my opinions.

Honestly, there is no other FPS which gets the same amount of attention as Halo these days, not even HL. Facts and figures tell us that when you look at the first day/week/month sales, all the media events it has and the type of following. That doesn't mean to say it deserves it all or that it's a better game than the others.

Anyway, this is kinda going off topic so back to the speculation..

Noooooooooooooo! :o

Well, there's COD4. It's certainly more entertaining for me than Halo.

I don't really know what you're getting at, all I'm saying is that there's plenty of BIG FPS games out there...

Yeah thats it...they just alluded to it being a big title. Theres plenty of those around and it doesn't have to be the XBOx's BIGGEST title to be still considered big. Based on what they said I still think it could be a new IP although thats unlikely and I see no reason it wouldn't be Halo.

Just because of this..

What's more, Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford stated in February: "I've started a new project. It's big. It's, like, look-at-our-line-up-and-imagine-something-even-bigger kind of big. I'm Directing it myself. I can't mention it publicly yet. When you find out what this is, you'll likely agree that I can't oversell this one." But that doesn't necessarily mean Gearbox is doing Halo 4. The "big" project Pitchford is talking about could be something else entirely. And Halo 4 hasn't even been announced. (Though, Microsoft would be silly not to do it.)

We already know the other games like Doom, Wolfenstein, HL2 are already being worked on. Call of Duty 5 is out in a few months, along with Far Cry 2 and the rest. What else is exactly big apart from these games? Simply trying to narrow it down to something other than Halo 4, which looks more and more likely.

Obviously the next Xbox is still some time away, so maybe it could be a sequel to a game still yet to be released.

Sorry if all of this is bugging you, I'm just trying to work out what it could be is all lol :p

Yessssssssssssss :p Welcome to 2008!

True, COD4 was a big hit and sold over 7 million copies the last I heard. It still doesn't have the fanbase or events/media like the Halo series does though.

Considering most of the original Bungie dev team left before Halo 2 you should be writhing in pain from the new games.

I was. :) I thought Halo 1 was ok, but I never thought it lived up to the hype of the masses. I thought the Metroid Prime series on the lowly Nintendo consoles looked better, lasted longer, and was more fun. I had no problem with the Half-Life games Gearbox did. I rather enjoyed Blue-Shift and Opposing Force. ;)

It is a good prediction, and a prediction is all it is.

If this IS true, then it is such a smart move by Microsoft. This will only push the sales of consoles up, and make for one of the most successful launches. We can only take this "prediction" with a grain of salt, and wait for official releases within the next year or two.

We all know what Gearbox did with Halo 1... :(

Well to be fair they were making a direct port of a game blatantly created for consoles so I don't think it was ever going to feel brilliant on a PC. The actual game ran fine for me in the day and any issues were to do with gameplay mechanics.

Halo on the PC worked fine for me, never had any issues even on a really old machine.

Same here, tried it on various computers and the game played very smooth - Never understood why people always moaned and complained about the PC version, I thought it was even more fun than the Xbox version due to the higher FPS, K&M and HD resolution.

I admit, Bungie screwed up the execution but they added a unique flavour to the game..

If your referring to the buggy / lopsided 56k/broadband multi-player experience, they were merely following directives of their boss, MS. The lead on the Halo port was quoted during an interview in saying that MS, in an attempt to further the reach of the PC port required that the minimum PC requirements be dropped to the lowest of denominators.

Its not that Gearbox screwed up, MS "screwed over" (a lil harsh I'll concede) the hardcore PC gamers. I HIGHLY doubt we'll see another port where 56K connections must be allowed for the multi-player experience :p

    • Because we were never offered a UFC game to review it in the past. Sometimes it's not a conspiracy, the reviewer does not even live in the U.S. and didn't ask for it.
    • Apple releases iOS 27 Beta 2 for developers and power users by Aditya Tiwari It's been a couple of weeks since Apple previewed the iOS 27 update during the WWDC official keynote. The upcoming iOS version will bring even more refinements to the Liquid Glass design language, an upgraded Siri AI assistant, and several new Apple Intelligence features. Interestingly, the latest WWDC keynote was different than previous years. Apple has released the iOS 27 beta 2 (build 24A5370h) for developers who want to test the new features being baked for the iPhone and optimize their apps. If you're interested in downloading the latest beta, go to Settings > General > Software Update > beta Updates, then choose iOS 27 Developer Beta. You can download the latest iOS 27 beta on more than 30 supported iPhones. Make sure you know what you are doing since developer betas can be unstable and unexpected at times. If you want to be on the safer side, you can wait for the public beta, which will arrive next month. It's been a while since Apple discontinued its AirPort router lineup. Now, the company said in the iOS 27 beta 2 release notes that the AirPort Utility is deprecated and won't be available for new downloads from the App Store. Apple added that if you previously downloaded the app, you can re-download it. However, the functionality isn't guaranteed when using the AirPort Utility on iOS 27 or later. Speaking of known issues, Apple said that the Portrait mode blur effect might render incorrectly for photos; you may be unable to stop an alarm from the lock screen without unlocking your iPhone; the "Add a Control" button in Control Center edit mode might appear small or clipped. There are several new features in iOS 27 beta 2 as well. It comes with Neural Engine improvements for Apple Intelligence, including better performance when loading large models over 1GB. HomeKit Secure Video recordings are processed on-device and through Private Cloud Compute for video descriptions and search, when Apple Intelligence is enabled in the Home app. That said, you can also download the second betas of macOS 27 Golden Gate, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, and other Apple operating systems.
    • FSR 4.1 is insanely superior to FSR 3. Like, FSR 4.1 Performance looks better than FSR 3.1 Quality. It's great they are finally enabling it for RX 7000 users. A bit late, but I guess better late than never.
