_dandy_
MS markets WGA as a good thing to consumers because you get discounts on other MS products (if you pass the WGA) Discount? Everything I've ever downloaded from microsoft.com that was only available if you passed the WGA check was already free. stylemessiah
How nice of Microsoft to give the kiddies some more cracking to do. When will they learn that all theyre doing is perpetuating their own problem, And no Unky Bill, we're still not going to use Vista................. * The author would like to point out he does use a valid and legal key and license, but still objects to spyware being installed, even if its by the vendor of the software. I consider any application that runs to monitor any other data on my system spyware.....surely a legal case could be argued one feels :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/662162-microsoft-plans-new-update-to-wga-notifications-in-windows-xp/page/2/#findComment-589703524 Share on other sites

Better un-install all those firewalls and anti-virus programs because those monitor ever aspect of your system. toadeater
this is just another announce, and another process that needs to run on my legit XP system. Once again MS is basically encouraging piracy by making it tougher for legit home users. The versions pirates use don't need to run the WGA process. This is why even legit users may want to install a pirated VLK version instead, because it's actually LESS of a hassle--you don't even need to activate it. MS is a victim of its own success, but it's also greedy. This WGA stuff just turns legit customers off, then you get complaints about Vista and people saying MS sucks. Well, MS does suck for being so greedy. Compare MS's behavior with other companies, such as Adobe, who don't harass their customers with insane security requirements. Yet Adobe's profits were at an all-time high in 2008. People who can afford it pay for software. Businesses pay for software. MS is being greedy. _dandy_
When MS first started doing WGA, they offered discounts on some products, Link to an example. Just one. If they no longer do that, then what's the end-user benefit now? now many MS programs you download from their site require WGA validation... Yes. That's what I was talking about. Being able to avoid an artificial roadblock (by having a valid license) is not a benefit. Being able to avoid an artificial roadblock (by having a valid license) is not a benefit. Don't know if this link will work, but go to the WGA site, and click on Genuine Windows offers. There is only one item there now, but when WGA first came out, there were more discounts on MS products. There's also offers for Office. I'm sorry if you can't remember, not my problem. IMO, those discounts aren't benefits, because WGA fails sometimes, even on legit copies. So, the end user gets screwed by this (if their WGA can't validate). And if someone pirates Windows, they'll probably pirate other software like MS office, etc. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/662162-microsoft-plans-new-update-to-wga-notifications-in-windows-xp/page/2/#findComment-589707742 Share on other sites
revvo
They don't care about piracy as far as we end-users go. Piracy costs them loads of cash from business customers, but not home consumers. This is just to boost their Vista sales, forcing people with pirated XP to upgrade. At the same time, they're making a sale they should have done, the sale's recorded on a product they want to record on which is Vista and the number of XP users is then reduced. Everything looks good for them with those series of events. ACTIONpack
Unless your under 18 and don't have a job, I don't see the point of using a pirate version of the OS of the your system. You can get it for $100 OEM which is not a lot. The people that don't use Windows Update because they don't want to get the WGA update, just use Linux. Although Microsoft has a **** load of money does not mean it's okay to steal software.
