If you use Firefox and the following two extensions it can be done.

Adblock Plus 0 7 5 5

Adblock Plus Element Hiding Helper

You just right click on the Avatar and choose Adblock Image

Thanks but not going to download a ton of extensions.

Design-wise, it makes more sense to have a uniform margin around the image. With 150 width, the image will be offset to the left by a small amount and looks far worse (to me) than having a 160 width image that has the same margin on both sides.

Then rather stick with 80x80 because 160 width looks horrid.

7 Pages?

What's wrong with 80*80? Nothing

I never understood it at first, but people want to have 150px wide by 80px tall, because there is that tiny space between your signature and the dividing line of the topic.

Just a small increase to improve the look of things I guess.

I think they represent the possibilities better than that chick with the indistinguishable background.

that looks nice, I expected 160 giving som whitepsace to look better. actually this looks better. it makes it look more like it's the header of the user info sort of.

I added a highlighted selected area to show how it would impact the current forum standard.

the green rectangle sizes are: 150x80 , 160x80 , 160x90 , 160x120

I liked 150x80, but the 160x80, and 160x90 look great. The 160x120 looks great too, but it might be too much of a change.

the 16x9 avatar is probably the best. It's like your own wide screen movie without the black bars.

160x90 = 16:9ar <--- doesn't seem to push anything around. not as scary.

160x120 = 4:3ar <--- clearly intrudes down into the user title and pips area. for some OMG the sky is falling!!!

80x80

Enough said (Y)

I agree (Y)

This has been discussed many times before, and these topics are usually dealt with quickly. I think having avatars any bigger makes the forum look less professional. And as for making the avatars wider, I don't think it looks too good - it looks less professional too.

If it isn't broken, don't fix it.

It could be better for the forum, but like a lot of people said it could take away from the professionalism of it too. I wouldn't mind having a bigger avatar, but I don't think i'm going to change mine anytime soon.

160x90 looks good, but this could turn out good or bad....

didn't want to create an new thread so

how do you change the letters under your avatar?

Control Panel > Edit Profile Information (under the Personal Profile header) > put in your own title in the Custom Member Title box.

Haha, woahhh, it might have been better to create a new thread to be honest ;) Or even PM a member of staff.

Anyway, go to "Control Panel", then "Edit profile information", from the sidebar, and it's the first box there :)

EDIT - Ooops, rm20010 beat me to it :p

cool thanks i was getting kind of angry looking for it

Big avatars take up more screen space without adding a lot of content value. They also tend to make sites look less professional, IMO. I'm fairly happy with 80x80.

I would rather have a 100 x 100 avatar than these huge signature images. That is what really takes up space, not adding 20 x 20 pixels to an Avatar. ;)

    • Yeah, this is absolutely nothing new and EA have done it before. Burnout Paradise, released in 2008, had dynamic advertising billboards that were updated via the internet and targeted people based on location and what EA knew about them from their profile. It was particularly notable for the fact that the Obama presidential campaign ran ads in the game, in an attempt to reach a younger audience who didn't watch broadcast TV any more. It was by no means the first though. Battlefield 2142 from 2006 had the same thing. In fact, Neowin wrote a story about it back then. https://www.neowin.net/news/ba...-in-game-ads-clarification/
    • This is obviously aimed at the education where Apple has lost so much ground to Chromebooks in the last few years, but unless they come up with a comparable management system for education why would anyone switch back?
    • Here's how we arrived at that claim: Note that this is just Play Store downloads. The app is also available on the Galaxy App Store
    • Google Play states the app had more than 50 million downloads. What other metric do you suggest should be used?
    • MSN defined our generation in some ways, kind of like Snapchat and TikTok have done for future generations. I have great memories of the MSN era in the late 90s / early 2000s. In the UK everyone seemed to come home from School and go on MSN for the evening. We didn't really have mobile phones then, so other than going and knocking on your friends door it was a totally new way of interacting with people. I also loved how I could talk to people I’d met playing online games from around the world. Inviting people to NetMeeting and messing about with the shared white board and webcams was pretty fun, even if webcams only ran at a couple of fps over dial-up. All the random things you could do with MsgPlus! were really fun - I suspect that made a few people jump with /shello randomly blasting Mr Hankey out their speakers! Maybe I’m just nostalgic, however I do feel the internet and computers were more fun back then.
