tsupersonic
Mmmm.....Interesting. I wonder why that happens on Basic & Home Premium and not on Business? Probably a bad install/user error. Rather than fix the problem, he went right to "Vista Sucks" Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/662778-4-hating-on-vista/page/4/#findComment-589714912 Share on other sites
Scorbing
Probably a bad install/user error. Rather than fix the problem, he went right to "Vista Sucks" I was wondering because even though I don't use Vista, when I did use it I never encountered any such errors on Internet Explorer. It always worked fine. He must have installed an add-on or something that was making it crash. Internet explorer is a different process (I think it's called iexplore) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/662778-4-hating-on-vista/page/4/#findComment-589714966 Share on other sites
what
Probably a bad install/user error. Rather than fix the problem, he went right to "Vista Sucks" It shouldn't happen at all though. 'Bad installs' should never be a problem. And I don't think anything a user can do should cause Explorer to just not work. It's a pretty important part of the OS. kylejn
Meh, I used Vista for a couple months, didn't like it, went back to XP. Gonna stick with that until Windows 7 comes out, at which point I'll take a look at it and see if it's worth upgrading to. Linkinfamous
It shouldn't happen at all though. 'Bad installs' should never be a problem. And I don't think anything a user can do should cause Explorer to just not work. It's a pretty important part of the OS. The problem with Explorer is that your shell has to interact very, very heavily with 3rd party code. Vista has made a large number of steps which improve Explorer's stability when dealing with unstable 3rd party code (Like spinning off processes for preview handlers), but you can't have it perfect while maintaining decent performance. Every single step made to improve stability in this regard is a step backwards for performance (As you have to spawn another process to do something, check over the results, put another layer of abstraction in place, etc., incurring some kind of performance penalty) At some point, you need 3rd party coders to not be idiots. Jin
I think it's important for people to keep in mind that a lot of the issues previously complained about in the initial release stages were ironed out with the service pack and/or patches. Vista as it stands is a lot more stable than XP was during the initial launch stage. I think for those people who used it in the past and were dissatisfied should give it another shot before continuing their crusade on burning the OS to the ground. -Hiroshi-
Took me since November 06 to say this without stretching it, but I'm on Vista with a new batch of drivers and finally, these past two weeks have been the smoothest I've ever experienced, which leads me to believe that things are continuously getting better for Vista. Finally I can say that Vista is better than XP. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/662778-4-hating-on-vista/page/4/#findComment-589717786 Share on other sites

CrashG
SP1 improved my already pleasant Vista experience. I didn't care for it before SP1, but after SP1 and some better drivers from Creative and nVidia, it's been fine. I initally had it on a spare drive (with XP on the main one). I made myself use Vista without switching back to XP for a month (that's enough time to give it a fair chance). As of 5/9/08 Vista has been my main OS. As with every new OS, it always has some issues at first. Mainly because of the vast hardware/software configurations that people have. I don't see Windows7 being any different. Dc'1
Vista is actually pretty good! I only have 1GB of RAM so I have to use XP to play more games though, once I get more RAM I'll never go back to XP :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/662778-4-hating-on-vista/page/4/#findComment-589720288 Share on other sites
Scorbing
I am giving Vista another chance. This time I have installed Vista Business. I like it so far. Doesn't feel as "heavy" as Premium Edition. I have 30 days to play with it then decide if I want it or not. So far, so good. Hum
Eventually all this negativity on Vista will pass.Everyone sooner or later will use it and migrate to it. Not I, said the cat.Never read one single good reason to buy Vista. If I migrate to anything, it will be Vista's replacement. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/662778-4-hating-on-vista/page/4/#findComment-589722420 Share on other sites
iZoom
And what happens when Vista's "replacement" is very similar in function and design to Vista, just without the random bugs some users have reported? I have had no bugs other than those caused by my own mishaps. I really look forward to seeing the reactions of people awaiting the coming of the messiah...I mean 7. I agree, I mean just look at the Mojave Experience from Microsoft... it's like that all over the place. The people that say "ohh vista sucks because of..." have never used it or seen it... and they fail to educate themselves, it's actually pretty sad to be honest.
