... and everyone who hates it has probably not tried it or just hates MS (aka Apple/Linux fanboys/girls)

Sure, there are some Apple and Linux people who just hate everything Microsoft. But look at this thread starter. Pro-XP, anti-Vista. And throughout Neowin and other tech forums, a lot of the anti-Vista sentiment comes from people who also say they will keep using XP.

Sure, you might have a strong reaction to someone trolling Apple or Linux against Vista, but the majority of complaints are from who uses the majority OS: XP.

1) i do, to watch tv, as do countless other people, it actually is a great pvr

2) used it one or two times to make a dvd without having to think too much. Doesn't use any resources when you don't use it

3) not using a lot of resources, never had spyware or viruses, never tried something else

4) uses no resources (except a few mb of hard disk space)

5) same as 4 and I assume some people use it

In fact, I assume a lot of people use dvd maker too, for someone who doesn't know the first thing about making dvd's it's a godsent. You on the other hand assume way to much, it's not because you don't like somethig other people don't use it.

You have been throwing all kind of FUD around in this topic, regarding server 2008 and vista and actually have proved just one thing: <snipped>

I may be an ignorant prick, but you don't seem to be far behind with your lack of intelligence and manners. Widows has become a bloated mess with useless applications that are never updated or enhanced in any way, shape or form (Paint, Word, DVD Maker, etc, etc). Most people end up buying something else to replace them. Microsoft is so proud of their Latest creations that they use Linux servers...<snipped>.

So, are those the same people that said they'd continue using 98/2000 when XP came out? ;)

Also, techies are a minority compared to average Joe/Jane. So, when average joe/jane hears the false Vista perspective, they will stick to XP for as long as they can (which is exactly what happened with XP, except that hardware in previous years was weak, so people had to essientally buy new computers and thats how many average Joe/Jane get a new hands on experience with the new OS)

It sounds like you're trying to put Windows Server 2008 down, yet you use it as a desktop OS?

I am not putting it down at all. Do I think its better than Vista? Yes. I rather have it than Vista. Do I like Linux? of course I do. Would I switch from Windows to Linux if it was supported by all software and hardware manufacturers like Windows is? the answer is 100% yes. Do I think Linux is better than Windows? You bet I do.

Ok time for school

XP had less process running because at the time most of the processes were a all in 1 process so in vista Ms has separated then so if 1 process crashes it wont take down an entire Lott of them and or the system so vista while it may have added few more cause of new things new features take those new ones away and you got the same amount of processes running as XPjust not combined in a single process

Simple and easy way to say it is this: Each process is separated and now in its own Memory Pool so they are individually protected

You have a rather bizarre and unique definition of the word 'better'.

Please, considering the barely marginal grasp you have on the most basic of Windows knowledge, please, just switch to Ubuntu for...say, a month. Just one month. Don't use Windows in any way, shape or form for 30 days. Blog it...I would be ecstatic to read it.

I have used Ubuntu and it is better than Windows. Too bad it is not supported by anybody enough. And by the way, I have more knowledge about Windows than you think.

Yes, but Vista Premium has more services running. Vista business doesn't have certain things that Premium version has.

You do understand that the presence of a service memory doesn't mean it's taking up resources, and that Vista will unload services over time right? This isn't XP, and the memory manager and process managers are far more vigorous and intelligent.

Ehhh... no it isn't, and if you really knew as much about Windows as you think you do it would be reflected in your replies... which it isn't. It's quite fine you don't care for Vista, but don't confuse your opinion with facts.

So, you criticize Scorbing for putting his opinions out as facts? All the while stating your opinion as a fact.

You are funny.

Well rather than this staying entirely on topic, this thread has once again turned into the usual fair of posts regarding

the word Vista. Why does it cause such an uproar amongst the tech community? There are many, many other things

people could discuss, argue, debate, criticize...but why does it seem to come full circle to Vista? Is there nothing else

to talk about? Apple's next incarnation of their OS? The next generation of video cards or game consoles? It just seems

stale to me to continually beat this horse. Some people like it and others don't...why is that so hard to understand?

I for one bought Vista as a "uninformed" consumer that was content with XP on my desktop and laptop. I play a few

games, use Word, browse the internet, and burn dvds/cds from time to time. I switched over and then proceeded to learn

along the way. Its an operating system, which means it will have bugs, incompatibilities, and some issues for users. Why

people think that there is one "catch-all" answer to Vista as an OS that will satisfy everyone's is just foolish. You can't

possibly make everyone happy, no matter how much money or time is spent. While Vista probably didn't roll out as expected

due to bugs and drivers, the individuals that look towards Seven as the coming of the next Messiah is a little bloated I think.

In the end, I think people need to step back and look at the bigger picture. Microsoft is a business, and businesses make money.

As long as they continue to work to support their software and update it, then why should the hostility continue? Its entirely too

convenient to just "hate" Microsoft when other companies are likely experiencing the same problems or will in the future.

My personal philosophy is to always use the latest version of Windows at home because I might as well get used to it sooner rather than later. My philosophy at work (particularly in regards to other people) is to always use the oldest version of Windows that Microsoft still supports.

In terms of the relative differences between them? Meh. One's prettier. Neither is Windows ME. Older versions require hundreds of megabytes of updates to get up to speed. Again, meh. I don't reinstall them every month.

That's because some people here are so obsessed with Vista that they don't want to accept the fact that there are other OSs out there better than Vista. Just like Firefox, people are obsessed with it and it is over-rated and there are other browsers out there that are better than Firefox (example: Opera). Opera's security is impecable yet how many security issues has Firefox had? Oh well.

Scorbing: Why do you put things that way? Suggesting that "Firefox seems to be safer to me" sounds much more believable

as one's opinion than stating "____ is better than Firefox". I'm not telling you what to believe or not believe, but your statements

tend to come across as a loudly stated fact rather than your individual opinion.

Perhaps they DO recognize there are other operating systems available, but it may be the case that their work requires a particular

OS such as my friend's work in graphic design. She has been using Apple and is content with it. Some companies or organizations

may use Vista/XP/2000 because that is what their framework is built on. I can only imagine the money and time it would take to

transfer a large enterprise-level company from OS to another and train all its employees in the use of the new OS.

I do agree that people tend to buy the latest and greatest and maybe think its the only thing out there. However, I think that people

are smarter than you give them credit for.

I have never said Firefox is a bad product, I just don't think its the best out there like some people claim it to be. I have never in any way, shape or form ever called anyone here stupid nor do I think any of you are. I think this forum is full of very talented, smart people. I on the other hand, have been insulted and humiliated through out the years I've been here, yet I have never offended anyone with names or ever called anyone "dumb" or thought they were stupid just because their opinion is different than mine. The minute I mention my opinion about Vista or something related to it, I get attacked and I am called a "prick" or I have no intelligence.

I am smarter than you give me credit for.

Well writing in bold and/or italics I think changes people's perception of what you are trying to say, and I agree

that the community here is very bright and talented.

Vista is what it is, as is OS X, Ubuntu, Fedora, etc...people seem to flock to the "popular" thing. Why don't we agree

to disagree and leave it at that?

I was the first person in my city (I believe) to get Vista. I went to BestBuy the morning it got released, asked for it and nobody knew what I was talking about, except one manager, who took me to the back room and opened up the first shippment of Vista and Office 2007. Spent $450 and I absolutely don't regret it. I have not had a single problem yet and my computer is running better than ever. Proud Vista user since launch.

Well, I've started using Vista 3 weeks ago and I have to say that Home Basic/Premium SUCKS because the explorer would crash every 3 minutes :s now, Business edition is another story :D very happy with it, no problems here.

Mmmm.....Interesting. I wonder why that happens on Basic & Home Premium and not on Business?
