Walmart breaks Metallic Silver DS US Release Date

Recommended Posts

Was shopping for a DS, and low and behold, I saw the Metallic Silver DS sitting right there in the shelf, they released it five days before it was supposed to be released on the 7th....

Gamestop Product Info

Gamestop, as well as other video game stores, show the release date on the seventh.

I like my Onyx DS hehe..

That looks decent.

Maybe better in person?

Yeah it's pretty sleek, and pictures don't do it justice. At first I thought it would have the gloss plastic cover over it like the white one does, but it turns out it's just a recolor of the black, blue, red and whatever.

I REALLY want a DS and one of those cards that would allow me to store a few films and my games on it.

http://realhotstuff.com and I recommend the CycloDS and Kingston MicroSD package that they sell.

It would look so great if it actually had a reflective finish like some of those acrylic PC cases. As it is...yeah, looks cheap. Glossy finish with speckled silver underneath = win.

It feels kinda cheap too..like a slightly cheap plastic thing going on, I mean I like it, it still works and everything, but it's kinda not what I expected it to be.

I have to admit that I'm not too crazy about the Metallic Silver DS, but I've always been a sucker for the glossy finish. I have the white DS Lite myself, but if it ever needs replacement for whatever reason, I'd probably get the Crimson or Onyx DS.

It's certainly nice of them to offer a non-glossy finish, though. I know a bunch of people who really hate the gloss, so I don't doubt people will buy it.

There was a time when I was in a local Wal-Mart and they had the movie Ice Age 2 for sale and it was just released in theaters. The next time I went back they had pulled it off the shelf.

That was probably a joke someone was playing or something. DVDs aren't manufactured and put in their packaging at the same time as it comes out in the theaters, so it couldn't have been legit copies.

But ya it's not unusual for Walmart to put things on the floor before their release date. Working there, I see this often. It's usually because the people who unload the vans usually start start pulling all the palllets out to the floor for the night shift and they don't look to see if they should be bringing it out or not, and then some morons on the night shift will just put the things on the shelf without looking at the date.

Or sometimes the warehouse is so full they put out anything and everything on the shelves just to clear some space in the warehouse for the next vans.

Silver/grey is that "midpoint" between Apple white and Mall Goth black, so I can see a lot of people opting for it since it's such a common color for a lot of electronics, and since it looks "techy."

As for glossy vs. non-glossy, it's nice to see the non-glossy option offered but I'm thinking they could've found a better color to do it with. Oddly enough, black would've been a good way to go. Gamepark Holdings managed to make their handheld look really awesome in black without a glossy finish, and it would cut down on the fingerprint issues (see below).

One nice thing about the white DS is that it doesn't show fingerprints as much as the onyx one does. I find myself wiping it down a lot. :p

Tell me about it. I love my DS to death, but I feel like I want to keep a hanky and a bottle of isopropyl in the carrying case with it. Oh, well, I'm used to it considering the massive quantity of shiny black things I own, and the DS has a lot less surface area than my black glass coffee table.

    • Anthropic pulls Fable 5 and Mythos 5 after US export control order by Pradeep Viswanathan In April this year, Anthropic launched the Claude Mythos Preview frontier model with state-of-the-art cyber and coding capabilities for a select set of companies around the world. After preparing appropriate guardrails, early this week, Anthropic launched Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, its most capable AI models. Claude Fable 5 is for general users and comes with strict safeguards, while Mythos 5 is designed with fewer safeguards for cybersecurity and biology use cases. Today, Anthropic abruptly suspended access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models for all customers after receiving an export control directive from the US government. The company received the directive from the government today at 5:21 p.m. ET, and the received letter did not provide any details regarding the national security concern. Anthropic understands that the government became aware of a method to bypass, or “jailbreak,” Fable 5, which might be the reason behind the directive. The order was issued under national security authorities and requires the company to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether they are inside or outside the United States. The restriction also applies to foreign national employees working at Anthropic. As a result, the company has disabled both models for all customers to ensure compliance. Access to previous Anthropic models like Opus and Sonnet is not affected by this government order. The company highlighted that it had developed strong safeguards to reduce the possibility that Fable is misused for tasks related to cybersecurity. In fact, many developers are complaining that the safeguards are going overboard. Additionally, the company worked with the US government, the UK AISI, multiple private third-party organizations, and internal teams to red-team Fable’s safeguards for thousands of hours. Finally, Anthropic noted that no testers have yet been able to find a universal jailbreak on Fable 5. As expected, Anthropic disagrees that a narrow potential jailbreak should lead to the recall of a commercial model used by hundreds of millions of people. It warned that applying this standard across the AI industry could effectively halt new frontier model deployments. Anthropic concluded by mentioning that it is working to restore access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 as soon as possible and plans to share more details within the next 24 hours.

    • Not sure what country you’re in but in many countries you can absolutely jail the sellers behind businesses… in fact I’d say in most countries you can do that
