ViperAFK
Most speed test show firefox 3 is about as fast Opera 9. I currently have opera and firefox 3 installed and they seem the same to me. medium_pimpin
I moved from FF to Opera a few months ago. I tried FF3 when it came out, but Opera is still much better. IMO. The_Decryptor Veteran Posted September 5, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 5, 2008 They're about the same speed, and about the same for compatibility with the specs. Try both and use the one you want, Firefox and Opera are both great browsers. HSoft
Firefox 3 has a huge bug with regards to cache. It doesn't refresh cache'd items, sending a 304 as it should. Even when you hit CTRL + refresh. I'd go with opera Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/665690-firefox-3-or-opera-9/#findComment-589745460 Share on other sites
tom01
I would proberly say Firefox but only because alot of websites are designed to work with firefox, not so much Opera! That's about it for me because I don't use addons because I filter sites threw a proxy :) Nothing wrong with Opera though, it just renders pages too correctly :p Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/665690-firefox-3-or-opera-9/#findComment-589745482 Share on other sites
shakey_snake
Opera defies some of the typical windows conventions to make it seem faster. Scrolling for example, scrolls was faster than what you set scrolling to be in the control panel. Also, lots of things happen when the mouse button is pressed down, rather when it is released. Those things "seem" faster, but once you figure them out, they "seem" (to me) more annoying than helpful. Opera also does some gimmicky kind of stuff when it comes to loading external stylesheets, that i can't see any practical use for. But yeah, as far as actual non-gimmicky rendering performance, the latest versions are about the same. inactive
Firefox 3 without question 'overall' ;) cause with it's overall feel and add-on support it's hard to beat Firefox when your looking at the overall performance/feel/addon's of the browsers. cause it aint used opera in quite a while but the last time i tried it... the overall feel of it i felt was lacking something... but it was not bad by any means. p.s. only add-on's i use are ADBlockPlus/NoScript/Tabscroller... most people will know adblock and noscript... so ill just explain Tabscroller... it basically just makes it so i can hold down the mouses right click and scroll with the mouse wheel to instantly swap between open tabs ;) , it takes a little while to get used to but once you do it's more efficient web browsing experience (primarily only for people who generally have multiple tabs open though... so if you dont use tabs then it will be useless for you).... and now that im used to it i would rather not go without that feature ;) Edited September 5, 2008 by ThaCrip Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/665690-firefox-3-or-opera-9/#findComment-589745998 Share on other sites

+BeLGaRaTh Subscriber¹ Posted September 5, 2008 Subscriber¹ Share Posted September 5, 2008 I would use Opera if I could get rid of the annoying message everytime I start it stating There was a problem initialising Opera Mail.Engine Init() failed I cannot find anything regarding it, other than some gibberish about my opera mail box being ful, but I don't use opera mail at all, and have never set anything like that up. There also doesn't seem to be anything the options for mail :( Contacting Opera is a no go as it appears I have to pay for support? or at least purchase opera, which I will not be doing any time soon.
