Dr. Curt Connors Confirmed For 'Spider-Man 4,' Could The Lizard Be Far Off?

When it comes to "Spider-Man 4," the upcoming superhero sequel directed by Sam Raimi, all eyes are on figuring out who the film's villains are going to be.

Based on the results of our recent poll, many Splash Page readers are hoping that the fourth "Spider-Man" outing finally focuses on The Lizard, Dr. Curt Connors' reptilian alter-ego that's been teased over the past several films. While Raimi himself previously said that the villain's story would likely be told eventually, he conceded that it might not happen in "Spider-Man 4."

Even though the Lizard's involvement still isn't a certainty, actor Dylan Baker?who played Connors in previous "Spider-Man" films?will indeed reprise his role in "Spider-Man 4," offering hope to fans of Spidey's scaly-skinned nemesis.

According to UGO, Baker confirmed his involvement in the fourth "Spider-Man" film during a question and answer session following a screening of horror movie "Trick 'r Treat" in New York City yesterday evening. Some confusion arose, however, when the film's director Michael Dougherty joked that Baker would essentially remain a background character?an assessment that Baker acknowledged as likely.

It's unclear whether Dougherty and Baker were joking about the actor's level of importance in "Spider-Man 4"?the "Trick 'r Treat" filmmaker referred to Baker's continued role as Connors as a "c---tease for another year"?or if they were simply trying to throw the audience off the scent.

Regardless, Baker's attachment to "Spider-Man 4" means that The Lizard is at least a possible contender for the film's villainous role, if not the current frontrunner.

Spider-Man 3 mostly turned me off Spider-Man 4. I don't know if I can take Tobey remotely seriously again (with the "emo" hair and all that).

Of the villains, however, I would like to see The Lizard. It's a popular Spidey theme to have villains that don't want to be villains (as opposed to simple "good" vs "evil" caricatures). I think DC comics always had that market covered which is why I tended to prefer Marvel.

MarketSaw claims they've gotten word that the Lizard will appear as the film's sole villain. Fact or wishful thinking? At this point, it falls into the category of unconfirmed rumor. Remember: Internet rumor = break out the salt shaker. [MarketSaw]

would be cool if spiderman had like a team up with a side hero....maybe punisher or human torch.. ..i like when they make cameo's in a little fight scene or something of the sought to tie things up with other movies...like Avengers...even though he wasn't in the initial Avengers group..

time for appearances from other heroes....makes thing more interesting.

Rachel Mcadams in Talks to play Blackcat?

Mania.com has heard from reliable sources that Sam Raimi and company have begun the process of casting the villains and supporting players of 'Spider-Man 4'.

We can exclusively reveal that actress Rachel McAdams has met with the producers of the film for a major role. McAdams (of 'Wedding Crashers' and 'Sherlock Holmes' fame) is said to be a top contender for the role of Felicia Hardy, known to comic fans as The Black Cat.

Our sources tell us that the Black Cat's story fits well with Raimi's Spider-Man formula, which always finds the villains troubling not only the costumed hero, but also becoming entangled in Peter Parker's personal life as well.

Fans recall that when Spidey first encounters the Black Cat, she's a cat burgler looking to free her ailing father from prison. She becomes smitten with the web-slinger, to the point of a stalker-level obsession. Later stories had Peter reciprocating her affection and her becoming a lover, a friend and ally (the perfect thing to allow Sony to create a Spidey spin-off).

And it looks like it'll be a two-villain movie. Our source also says they are casting for a male villain, but had few details. However, this would seem to discount the idea that Lizard is the primary, since the role of Dr. Conners has been cast since movie #2.

New Source Confirms Black Cat For Spider-Man 4, More Story Details Revealed?

There?s clearly some heavy auditioning going on down at the Spider-Man 4 big-shot hang out, with Sam Raimi reportedly turning over both Rachel McAdams and Romola Garai during his trawl for a potential female lead. What has been less clear, but I guess only marginally, is just what character the lucky lady to eventually be handed this key role will get to play.

According to new information, however, it would seem beyond doubt and now a dead cert that Felicia Hardy, the Black Cat, is in. Better still, there?s some basic information about her story arc bubbling up?

I?ve verified with Hey U Guys that their sources are 100% legit, and am pleased to confirm that they?ve passed the sniff test easily. This is still just a rumour, sure - but it?s a very nice smelling one. Hav According to our friendly neighbourhood spider-source there are a number of actresses currently being considered for the role, but this at least confirms that Hardy is going to be in the film. We were also given a rough outline of the character?s story arc.

tory arc.

Their report goes on to tell us that the big screen Felicia Hardy is not the daughter of a cat burglar, as per the original, but that her old man is, for some of the film at least, the new man in charge of the Daily Bugle. This is presumably how she first meets Peter Parker, who she then goes on to fall in love with and discover the secret identity of - which will, as was inevitable, put both of them in danger. Jeez, Pete - can?t you just keep it in your pants mask?

Hardy?s father is not only a newsman but also reportedly a villain in some sense, though possibly not a costumed one. On the other hand, Hey U Guys tell us that their source were calling this chap a ?viper?, over and over. It doesn?t really add up that they?ve confused ?lizard? and ?viper? but how about ?vulture? and ?viper?? There?s also an outside chance that the word was ?venom? and there?s some cross-over between Spider-Man 4 and the touted Venom spin-off on the cards. Vulture seems most likely to me? or Hardy senior might just be a ticked off news man with no animal alias.

Here?s a little potential spoiler - the Hey U Guys story suggests that it?s the death of Felicia?s pop that provides the catalyst for her change of heart. Does Mr. Hardy die because an out-of-costume Peter feels he can?t act to save him? Again, that seems to be the strong implication but only time will tell. I definitely see the comments Raimi has made about needing a villain and a dilemma specific to Peter?s new circumstances marrying up very nicely with a plot line about Spider-Man?s need for a secret identity.

By the way? where do you think MJ will factor in all of this? Is Raimi really going to kill her off? Wow. Seems more likely by the day.

I?ll bet my house on the inclusion of the Black Cat and stack yours on the Vulture. Watch this space, because some interesting lines of inquiry are just starting to open up?

Black Cat would definitely be a cool addition to the franchise. I always liked her. I think they're reading a lot into the "Viper" comment... It'll be interesting to see what that turns out to mean, but if they said Viper, something tells me they didn't just mean "some villain that's name starts with 'V'"... I've been trying to think of a snake reference, and there are a few in the Marvel Universe (A few that were even foes of Spider-Man), but no one that would really be cool... That I can think of anyway. I'm really curious about this though.

Below is the first official casting tidbit we have received for the upcoming Spider-Man Sequel. Now this is not your typical casting call as it usually would have multiple characters listed and this is for a Toddler Baby.

Our first thought was who cares about a casting call for a baby? However, it is asking for a child with "Red Hair". The first obvious thought is Mary Jane having red hair! I am not an expert at the Spider-Man story, so what do you all think??

Is it possible we will see Peter Parker and Mary Jane's child??

Sure, Rachel McAdams has denied being cast in Spider-Man 4 as Black Cat, and Sony Pictures calls the web reports mearly “internet rumor”, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a bit of truth to the story.

UGO has learned that Julia Stiles has met with a casting company in New York City to discuss joining Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 4, and we’re pretty confident the role is still that of Peter Parker’s love interest/antagnonist Black Cat.

Last week we also found out Sony had put out a casting call for a new female lead for the fourth Spider-Man film, and that Romola Garai (Amazing Grace, The Other Man) has auditioned for the role. Garai, McAdams, and Stiles all fall into the near 30-year-old age range, and have a similar look. You might also remember that a new source confirmed that Black Cat is in the screenplay, but the character is now the daughter of the new man in charge of the Daily Bugle, who just happens to be one of Spidey’s new villains (which one, we’re not sure).

Now its Hathaway Up for the Role!...

It looks like we can add another name to the list of actresses who are reading for a new role in Spider-Man 4. Deadline Hollywood reports:

While Sony Pictures insists no decisions have been made, sources tell me that the producers have approached Anne Hathaway to star in the film. Maybe you experts have an idea what she'll play? All I know is that she's wanted for a starring role, and she won't replace Kirsten Dunst who's also cast in the Spidey fourquel.

Julia Stiles, Rachel McAdams and Romola Garai have previously been rumored to be auditioning for possibly Felicia Hardy/Black Cat. Will Sony Pictures start making official casting announcements soon? Stay tuned...

No real news about this movie, which starts shooting early next year, but Tobey Maguire says he likes the idea of the Lizard as the main villain, because the Lizard has a history with Peter Parker, and "we often will go towards that kind of stuff." And he echoes Sam Raimi's comments about not knowing much about Carnage, who came to the wall-crawler's supporting cast much later on. He also likes Mysterio. [MTV]

Hopefully I'll be able to evolve the character in a new direction. He'll still be Peter Parker, but I hope I can move him forward a bit and take him to a place where there will be new challenges for me as an actor.

John Malkovich and Anne Hathaway as Spider-Man 4?s Vulture and? Vulturess?

This is where those Black Cat stories from a few weeks back get really interesting. It?s also where some purists start throwing little fits.

New reports have John Malkovich and Anne Hathaway in the frame for roles in the new Spider-Man picture as father and daughter villains. Malkovich would be playing The Vulture, and Hathaway would be playing The Vulturess.

The who?? You might be surprised, if not outright appalled, when you read just who she is?

According to Movieline, Hathaway would indeed be playing Felicia Hardy, the comics character also known as Black Cat. In this version of events, however, she won?t be going feline but will instead ?become a brand-new superpowered figure called the Vulturess?.

The first report on there being a father-daughter villain team up actually would have pointed straight at the Vulture if somebody had a better memory. A source at the time kept referring to the character as ?Viper?, not Vulture. So close.

Now, there?s no reason this rejig won?t work brilliantly but I still bet Raimi and Co. get it in the neck. Frankly, fidelity towards the source material is ludicrously over-protected by comics fanpeeps who seem to be missing the bigger picture. Who cares if we get Black Cat or Vulturess? Shouldn?t we simply care that the end result is smart, purposeful, well made and engaging? With Raimi, David Lindsay-Abaire and Gary Ross pulling the strings I think I?d be happy to bet the shirt off of my back on this one.

Hathaway has already been linked to the role, back when we assumed Felicia would be wearing a slinky cat suit and not some sort of birdy get-up. Malkovich is a new name to the Spider-game, to the best of my knowledge. I like both of them a great deal and think they can hit the required tone perfectly.

I wonder if this new Felicia will also have the white hair? Not terribly Vulture-y, is it? But then, it wasn?t too Cat-y either. I dare say the cleavage costume will go relatively unchanged, perhaps just recoloured into green. It might be like the Norman and Harry hand-me-down all over again.

Movieline?s piece also discusses the exclusion of The Lizard, a villain that the entire series seems to be building towards. According to them, ?the suits simply can?t bring themselves to sign off on such an odd-looking enemy?. Is there no concept artist out there who could make this thing work for the witless executives?

Note that all information is pointing to Malkovich?s character taking over The Daily Bugle. That?s another continuity change from the comics, I believe. Again, I could care less as long as it works in the context of the movie

Bob Iger Fine with Sony Keeping Spidey Rights

The Hollywood Reporter says that Disney president and CEO Bob Iger talked Wednesday morning about the recent deal to acquire Marvel.

Iger stated he wants to "put a spotlight on the name Marvel that is much brighter than today." He explained that while Marvel is a well-known brand, there "hasn't been all that much focus on growing that brand" given the different interests of studios that have so far used some of its characters.

Iger also talked about the potential to develop lesser-known Marvel characters with the help of good scripts and directors which could lead to "surprises" and new franchises.

Iger also said it would be "just fine" for Disney if Sony keeps making "Spider-Man" movies given that Marvel handles the licensing for them and has a big character library.

    • And here goes the "Won't someone think of the children" brigade. Get stuffed mate. This has NOTHING to do with making the internet safe. It's about tracking adults, spying on your online activity, and sending the boys around when they don't like something you post. Also, again, parliament have voted TWICE against this, and Starmer is going ahead anyway. THAT is anti-democratic bullsh**. They will use this law to track you, they will use this law to control you, and they will use this law to punish you if they don't like what you do, even if it's legal. And your data? Say bye bye to that. It'll be on the darkweb in weeks. I'm not some rando online. I've been an IT professional for 40 years, many of it in security. • "...but it may not be Microsoft's fault" seems like a reasonable way to tease what is going on without leaving the user with a false impression that an update is the problem. A title isn't a summery, it is meant to entice the user to read the article. It should not contain a misleading premise; which this title does not. You could maybe complain that the first paragraph should have included that detail. The writing style popularized over 100 years ago in newspapers will cover the most important information as soon as possible with details and nuance added later; the idea being that with each new paragraph you have less of the reader's focus.
    • Samsung Galaxy XR arrives in the UK with new AI and enterprise features by Fiza Ali Samsung is bringing its Galaxy XR headset to the UK several months after the device made its debut as the first headset built on Google's Android XR platform. The headset was first teased in late 2024 alongside Google's introduction of Android XR before making its commercial debut in 2025. Developed in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm, Galaxy XR combines mixed reality experiences with Gemini-powered AI features, allowing users to interact with digital content using voice, gestures, and visual inputs. While the hardware itself remains largely unchanged from the version Samsung unveiled last year, the company is using the UK launch to spotlight several software enhancements that have arrived through recent updates. Among the most notable additions is deeper integration with Google's ecosystem. Galaxy XR users can explore destinations through Google Maps' Immersive View, receiving AI-powered recommendations and contextual information from Gemini while navigating virtual environments. Furthermore, entertainment experiences have also expanded; users can watch 180-degree and 360-degree videos on YouTube, browse spatial content converted into 3D, and ask Gemini questions about on-screen content without interrupting playback. Samsung is also highlighting mixed-reality features such as Circle to Search, which allows users to identify real-world objects through hand gestures while using the headset's video pass-through mode. Another feature automatically converts photos and videos into spatial 3D experiences. Moreover, the headset now also supports Android Enterprise, allowing organisations to manage deployments using existing Android management tools. Annika Bizon, Vice President, Product and Marketing, Mobile Experience, Samsung UK & Ireland, talked about the device, stating: The headset is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 platform and features dual 4K Micro-OLED displays. The tech giant says that users can expect up to 2.5 hours of battery life. Samsung also confirmed that Galaxy XR will continue receiving software and security updates as the company works alongside Google and Qualcomm to expand the Android XR ecosystem. Galaxy XR is now available for pre-order and will go on sale on 8 July. Customers interested in trying the headset before launch can visit Samsung KX in London and selected Samsung Experience Stores from 17 June. Finally, the company will also host a livestream on 19 June showcasing the headset's capabilities and answering questions from prospective customers.
