Rappy Veteran Posted July 5, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted July 5, 2010 Deadline are reporting that Sony will pay Garfield an estimated $500,000 to take over the role of Peter parker in Marc Webb's upcoming reboot of the franchise... Sure that ain't chicken feed to the average Joe, but in the worlds of big budget Hollywood block busters, its really not a lot, especially when you consider how much Tobey Maguire made from his 3 portrayals of Parker. But then of course, we always knew Sony were going to bring this one in at a much lower budget so I suppose its not that surprising. Tobey Maguire was paid $4 million for the first film, it has been reported that was paid $17.5 million plus 5% back-end for Spider-Man 2, and $15 million plus 7.5% back-end for Spider-Man 3. And he was supposedly offered $20 million plus a small percentage of backend for the Spider-Man 4 which of course was scrapped in favor of this reboot. According to Deadline.. ..I'm told Garfield's pay scale on the film is around $500,000 salary on the first film, $1 million for the second one, and $2 million for the third film. All of the finalists were presented with those terms in a deal for one film and two options.] Director Marc Webb had a lot of critical and commercial success with his debut feature 500 Days Of Summer, although he still wouldn't have been considered a big time player by any means. And of course Garfield is a relative unknown. Appearing in mainly indie fare like Boy A, the Red Riding series, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus etc. But gaining huge praise and plaudits for his work. So it seems like Sony have managed to nab some big time talent for hardly any cash at all. Personally I think that might be a good thing. Obviously a film like Spider-man needs special effects, but without millions upon millions to splurge, sometimes a movie will focus on story and character more than it might have before, which is never a bad thing. I'm still not in favor of this reboot at all, but if they can make it the best they can make it I'll certainly give it a chance! But despite rumors(and hopes) that with the casting of the 26 year old Garfield, the movie would change its purposed high school setting for either college, or even have the story take place around the same time period that the third Raimi movie ended(sort of requel style a la The Incredible Hulk) it seems as if its still going to go the Spidey 90210 route. The film will begin shooting by year's end for a July 3, 2012 release date from a script by Jamie Vanderbilt. +jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted July 5, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted July 5, 2010 Not sure why being British is an issue - Christian Bale seemed to be a popular Batman, who is probably a bigger American hero than Spider-Man. It remains to be seen how good this thing will be though - I'm still a bit dubious as I think it's kinda strange rebooting this series.. Using unknowns these days seems to be a risk that pays off rather well. People seem to be more willing! The Watcher
In all of the choices to take over the Spiderman role, I believe that Andrew Garfield is one of the better choices. Sure, he's been in more independent movies and hasn't been in a lot of movies but I saw "Boy A" and trust me, that movie was great and so was his acting. Xero
Every time I see something for this I get disappointed. Why can't they just let Spider-Man, be a man. I'm tired of this kiddy crap. Spidey was best when he was an adult, at least in the comics. Sadly we probably won't ever get to see that version of him. What would be nice if they let Marvel take him back and they pursued that whole Iron Spidey arc. When he worked with Tony Stark. That would be cool! Thanks for the reminder. :) I was thinking back to announcement of the reboot where the movie was hinted at Peter Parker in highschool while doing the whole superhero thing. That sounds more in line with Ultimate Spider-man universe than Raimi's take on the franchise. I'm OK with a reboot of the movie franchise as long as it is NOT Spider-man 3 quality. Rappy Veteran Posted August 8, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted August 8, 2010 We have our Peter Parker in the form of Andrew Garfield, however an equally important casting decision has yet to be made: Who is going to kidnap Mary Jane-Watson? Even though Marc Webb and Sony are rebooting the Spider-Man franchise it is likely the nemesis will borrow Parker?s girlfriend at some point, or his Aunt, so a talented actor will be required carry out the deed. Back in June we heard that Michael Fassbender was wanted for an unspecified villain role, but he decided to play the Master of Magnetism in X-Men: First Class instead. Now Production Weekly is reporting that Sony has an interest in Oscar winning actor Christoph Waltz for the villain role, which may or may not be The Lizard. Following his turn as Col. Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds Waltz been offered many roles, mostly villains, and he will be seen in The Green Hornet opposite Seth Rogen in January. From the sounds of things Sony is just interested at this point, however there is the question of whether Waltz would be willing to play the villain in another superhero movie. With filming set to start in December we will be hearing casting confirmations over the upcoming months, and we will finally find out whether Peter Parker will be facing off against The Lizard or another foe. The Ultimate Spiderman Universe adapted the original into a modern day version of Peter Parker and Spiderman Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/665838-the-amazing-spiderman-2012/page/16/#findComment-593006820 Share on other sites

Rappy Veteran Posted August 21, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted August 21, 2010 The Spider-Man reboot is looking for its female lead and Heat Vision claims to have the shortlist of actresses who have met for the part. The articles also states that the character of Mary Jane Watson will not be the film's love interest, leading to speculation that the storyline will add either Gwen Stacy, Felicia Hardy (the Black Cat), another of Peter Parker's past loves or may feature an all-new character created especially for the film. Heat Vision's list includes the following (from left to right): Lily Collins (The Blind Side, Priest), Ophelia Lovibond (Nowhere Boy), Imogen Poots (28 Weeks Later, the upcoming remake of Fright Night), Teresa Palmer (The Sorcerer's Apprentice, I Am Number Four) and Emma Roberts (Hotel for Dogs, Valentine's Day). Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, the upcoming The Thing prequel) is listed as having just been dropped from the running Source Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/665838-the-amazing-spiderman-2012/page/16/#findComment-593056980 Share on other sites
Rappy Veteran Posted September 6, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted September 6, 2010 While chatting about Never Let Me Go, Garfield talked about how he?s been preparing a long time to star in Marc Webb?s upcoming Spider-Man reboot. When The Hollywood Reporter asked Garfield if he has been prepping for Spider-Man, he responded with the following: I have been waiting for this phone call for 24 years, for someone to call me up and say, ?Hey, we want you to pretend to be a character that you?ve always wanted to be all your life, and we?re going to do it with cool cameras and cool effects and you?re going to feel like you?re swinging through New York City. Do you want to do that?? [laughs] ?Let me just consult with my seven-year old self and see what he thinks?? So my seven-year-old self started screaming in my soul and saying, This is what we?ve been waiting for. Like every young boy who feels stronger on the inside than they look on the outside, any skinny boy basically who wishes their muscles matched their sense of injustice, God, it?s just the stuff that dreams are made of, for sure. It?s a true ****ing honor to be part of this symbol that I actually think is a very important symbol and it?s meant a great deal to me, and it continues to mean something to people. So yeah, I feel like I?ve been preparing for it for a while. Ever since Halloween when I was four years old and I wore my first Spider-Man costume. Rappy Veteran Posted September 24, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted September 24, 2010 Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland) and Emma Stone (Superbad) have joined Imogen Poots, Ophelia Lovibond, Lily Collins, Teresa Palmer, Emma Roberts and Mary Elizabeth Winstead in the race to become Andrew Garfield?s love interest in the Spider-Man reboot. Although according to EW there are two female leads that need casting, which could mean the actresses are testing for Mary Jane Watson and Gwen Stacy. The studio is casting a rather wide net. It flew Mia Wasikowska, best known as Alice from Tim Burton?s Alice in Wonderland, in from New York to meet with Webb and Garfield. While, most recently, Easy A?s Emma Stone read with Garfield for the role. Not only do the actresses have to have the acting chops, they also have to have good chemistry with Andrew Garfield as they will be sharing the screen with him for potentially 3 movies. Filming is scheduled to begin in December so the chosen actress or actresses will likely be announced soon.
