Start Menu options

How can I stop these gray boxes from appearing in my start menu?:

greyboxes.jpg

CLARIFICATION: I'm talking about the icons being darker than others (the ones that haven't been used yet - it's almost like a highlighting of new programs)

Also: how can I stop it from having the arrows for expanding my start menu? Sometimes, when I go to Programs, there is an expansion arrow at the bottom to expand the viewable list. I want it to always display all by default.

- Vista Business

- using Aero

- Classic Start Menu

1) They are created by certain programs when they are installed - the only way would be if programs have the option to not create a Start Menu group during installation, and then nothing related to that program would appear in the Start Menu. Just delete them when they appear.

2) Start Menu Properties - Customize - Advanced - Uncheck "Scroll Programs"

1) I think you totally misunderstood my question. Re-read my edit.

2) It's unchecked yet it still happens...
