So what's this Admiral Cain all about? Other than a reason for them to have wild orgies every episode...

from a livejournal blog post...

""Bacchus was the god of the grape, of course, so bars are very interesting to maenads. In fact, so interesting that they don?t like other creatures of darkness becoming involved. Maenads believe that the violence sparked by the consumption of alcohol belongs to them; that?s what they feed off, now that no one formally worships their god. And they are attracted to pride.?

--- From the books.

Now.. to Maryann.. Remember when Sam tried to pay her money? She didn't want the money. Maryann wants the madness.. that what she feeds on. And that's why Sam keeps telling her to not hurt anyone. She can't kill a vampire, since they have no energy to feed on. She can only make them mad to the point where a vampire is so crazy, they have to be staked to save them.

And why Mary Ann is there -- she feels a lot of supernatural activity in Bon Temps. Vampires, Weres, Shape-Shifters, Fae (Fairy), and so, so much more."t;b>

I'm not a bit surprised that MaryAnn turned out to be that creature. I suspected it from the beginning.

It was pretty obvious, she is a Maenad, and to quote wikipedia..

"In Greek mythology, maenads were the female followers of Dionysus, the most significant members of the Thiasus, the retinue of Dionysus. Their name literally translates as "raving ones". Often the maenads were portrayed as inspired by him into a state of ecstatic frenzy, through a combination of dancing and drunken intoxication.[1] In this state, they would lose all self control, begin shouting excitedly, engage in uncontrolled sexual behavior, and ritualistically hunt down and tear animals (and sometimes men and children) to pieces, devouring the raw flesh."

Sounds about right! ;)

Ratings are gooooooooooood!

Viewers' thirst for True Blood is intensifying: After taking a week off, the bloody good vampire saga's latest episode on Sunday attracted a series-high 3.9 million viewers. The potent Blood helped lift Hung, which grew 29 percent from its debut with 3.6 million viewers, and Entourage, which kicked off its sixth season with 3.4 million viewers -- its largest audience in more than two years.

Bill is happy about the ratings! :p

the show itself is OK, a bit too soapy and meandering for my liking. Anna Paquin isn't very convincing, but between them, Michelle Forbes and Alex Skarsgard have enough charm and skill to make up for everything and make this worth watching.

Ahh, that's what I thought, it calms down soon though :) Not many sex scenes anymore ;)

I hope so. Seeing all that unnecessary hip thrusting kinda turned me off from the show. I want to see vampires and paranormal stuff, not sex.
