Apple notebook refresh rumored to arrive October 14

The current MacBooks go by the codes of MB302 etc.

In our inventory system I see two new additions, one is the MB062, 2.16Ghz, 120GB, DVDRW, for $1299, and a MB063 with 2.2Ghz, 160GB, DVDRW for $1399. These don't sound like what we've heard regarding the new notebooks, but I can confirm that they're in the Future Shop/Best Buy system, and were not in the system before.

That doesn't sound like aggressively priced laptops too me.

Combo drive -> Super drive = 1300 bucks. This is impossible.

How much memory do they have? 2GB I hope? :|

I would still not believe it though.

MB062 is old. They're the Mid 2007 models.

So is MB063.

They're not new models.

MB402/403/404 (Early 2008)

MB061/062/063/B (Late 2007)

MB061/062/063/A (Mid 2007)

MA699/700/701/A (Late 2006)

MA254/255/472 (Mid 2006, the originals)

TUAW believes that the upcoming MacBooks will indeed be powered by NVIDIA chipsets and will be delivered on October 14th.

A source tells us that Nvidia is showing off new MacBooks to their employees, and word is going around that the new versions will be released as soon as October 14th.

Apple was first rumored in July to be incorporating alternative chipsets in future laptops. While Apple would still be using Intel CPUs to power their laptops, the support chips (including graphics) were said to be supplied by a company other than Intel. NVIDIA topped some lists as the most likely supplier. A subsequent report from MacSoda pointed specifically to the use of the MCP7A-U chipset in future MacBooks. This NVIDIA chipset was briefly detailed by Expreview:

“MCP7A-U is the top class chipset in the MCP7A family. Though it could be named as GeForce 9XXX, it will be come the first mainstream uATX mobo with DDR3-1333 support. Sources inform us the MCP7A-U will be the “fastest mGPU”, but who knows.”

Such a move would address user complaints about the use of Intel's slower integrated graphics chipsets in current MacBooks. The move would also prepare Apple's laptops for the release of Mac OS X Snow Leopard which will allow applications to utilize the more powerful graphics processing units.

MacRumors has also heard similar whispers which lead us to believe these reports could be true.

Oh well, no invites yesterday. Let's just hope they will be a silent update next tuesday :)

I was pretty certain to buy a MacBook Pro but these nvidia rumours might make me shift to a MacBook. As long as it's something along the lines of a 9300M G I'll be happy...

^According to macrumors forums they've never hold an event for MacBooks. Not when they switched from iBooks to MacBooks nor from PowerPC to Intel.

Honestly, I can't see Apple release them without an event either, it's just wishful thinking. Especially because I set myself a deadline: No books on October 14th, buy a Dell Studio. I would be glad if someone could name me a few reasons why I should hold off ;)

The first Intel Mac was at Macword was it not - so in theory it was an event. They simply just didn't update the website with the new model.

Yep, you're right. First Intel Mac (MacBook Pro, I suppose) came out January 10th, thus Macworld (MacBook Pro Release)

However, when the iBooks were redesigned (a quite "big" update, wasn't it?) there wasn't an event whatsoever.

Guess I'm just trying to convince myself that the 14th is still probable... ;)

I want a 1440x900 13.3in in black...... that's the ONLY change I need in a macbook, just a higher resolution screen.

Hmmm, if you add resolution independance, okay I'm with you.

Otherwise, my sight isn't good enough for these small characters (and I don't wear or need to wear glasses anymore)

It is! Wow, I got scared for a moment but I have nothing to worry now :)
Will this "Brick" mystery be put to bed? Will they come in rainbow colors? Tune in to find out.

Are the late nineties/early 2000s making a comeback? First with the coloured iPod nano 4Gs, now coloured iMacs and coloured iBook MacBooks?

The Brick manufacturing process sounds awesome though.
