bleuiko
Hi, I'm on Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit and is using windows to control my wireless networks. Is there anyway to turn the network icon on the system tray from the twin computers to the signal strength bars? I think I saw the bars briefly when I was starting up but it turned into the computers... I know there are options to to put the signal strength in the gadget area or install third party options but I am wondering if there is anyway to just change the icon without adding anything. Thanks! Yusuf M. Veteran Posted September 13, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 13, 2008 I don't know either but I did see it change into the bars once.
Windows7even
without using a program such as the intel utility its not possible with vista...all you can do is hover over the network icon and it will give u the strength in a popup..what the guy above is referring to is when there are undiscovered networks available it will alternately flash between the regular icon and a wirless strength icon in the taskbar. random_n
The "signal bars" flash in place of the normal network tray icon to indicate that wireless networks are in the area, but you have no active connection. It won't show an actual signal strength - you'll need third party software. :/

I have installed the Intel Wireless PROSet for Vista (I'm using a Lenovo T61p) but it seems that it uses the Windows wireless network manager and does not have its own.
